It's not hard to understand, people.

Did you place your order on, or after, 6/26? If so, you get a coupon. If not, you don't. lol

Dell changed the item number when the coupon program went live:

    - Operating System --
-- Windows Vista Home Premium (64 bit) + Windows 7 Home Premium Upgrade Coupon
    -- [330-5414]
    -- [420-3251]
    ----------------------- AND:

1 420-3251 Windows Vista Home Premium (64-bit Edition) with Service Pack 1 $0.00
    1 330-5414 Windows 7 Home Premium UpgradeCoupon, W0, ENG,SPN,FRE,GER JPN $0.00

Notice the 330-5414 item? That is the coupon. Without it, it wouldn't be added to your order.

You can get ultimate when you configure (like $100 or $150 extra).

Yeah but I think a notebook of this calibre should include it as a stock option like my Toshiba did.

Indeed. Doesn't matter really in the end... Just would be a nice added benefit.

Sadly though, Win7 Home Premium doesn't support Domains, which is a bit of a pain for those of us who run a domain at home. Of course maybe that puts us firmly in the "people who have way too much money tearing a hole in their pockets" catagory, I don't know.

I am curious to know, when Alienware systems will start shipping with Win7...

Will Windows 7 be available for download with the coupon we have, along with the CD MS is sending to us? I've read somewhere that we will but not sure. Anyone has any ideas?

Very much doubt it. MS never do that unless you have an MSDN account

Register for what exactly? If you ordered your notebook after 6/30/09, you should have received a Windows 7 upgrade coupon.

i ordered july 10, received july 20. never got the coupon. i called alienware, they told me it was dell handling the problem. dell told me it would get mailed within the week, never happened. I kept emailing them and i finally got a response back 4 weeks later saying i have to register my service tag online for the upgrade..

    heres what the email said:

Dell Rep... "I was able to make your service tag ******* eligible for windows 7 upgrade. Please try to register your system online."

what the hell is that? this is ridiculous.

I was just trying to order my upgrade and I got a BSoD (not quite sure why, it's been happening though) and now when I try to order again I get a message - "The Microsoft Offer Form Code you have entered is currently blocked. Please try again later."

Anyone else had this happen? Will my code be un-"blocked" soon or what? I hadn't even gotten to any shipping information or anything I had just entered the code and confirmed my OS/language and now I can't complete my order...

Nevermind, I tried again a minute ago and I was able to order successfully.

I guess it's just a security measure to prevent multiple people from using the same code or something

I just spoke with a Dell rep and they said that if your laptop will be delivered after Oct 22 that Windows 7 will come pre-installed. Has anyone else heard that one?

I'm adding the ATI cards so that will delay me awhile in getting the laptop anyway. It would be nice if I could order today and save a few days off the 18th.

Bah careful on this guys. I just spoke with another Dell rep and they are saying only orders placed after the 22nd come with 7 pre-installed, which conflicts with what the one earlier told me and the rumor of the 18th as well.

Has anyone gotten a definitive date on this yet?

I don't know for sure as for just ordering your computer now but I would assume it's the 22nd or after since that's the official release date

When I ordered my upgrade it said it wouldn't ship until the 27th..... it would be nice if there were some sort of download option for when it becomes available as people have been talking about in this thread

Heck mine had the old BIOS even though the new one had been released a month earlier so they didn't even update it prior to build.
