Windows 7 Upgrade Program for M17x

Dikkiedirk there is no need to restore the system before returning it . Unless you have some precious information on there then i wouldnt bother.

Dunno if anyone was wondering, but I ordered on June 28th and received my Windows 7 upgrade. I know people are upset about missing out because they were early birds, but for those of us lucky (or slow) enough to order after the 26th, I can confirm that it works. I wish Alienware would help you guys out, specially because the people that ordered early are probably more dedicated to it than those that ordered later.

 

Just a quick question, Will installing the RC make me lose some alienware software functionality? Or will everything work perfectly normal?

 

I dont know about the M17X but on the M17 if you install the Windows 7 RC you can kiss goodbye to things like command centre...I suspect its same with the M17X....These ALienware applications barely work properly on Vista nevermind Windows 7.

Yes they may not work now, but if you really wanted Windows 7 on your system it would be fine. In other words cc is not necessary for your system to run.

Personally I am waiting for official support from Dell but that hasn't stopped me from tinkering. I just wouldn't use it as my primary OS until the support is there.

 

If i paid for the features, i'd like to take advantage of them.

Exactly what I was saying Win 7, right now, isn't for you. A lot of folks here (including myself) like to tinker... lol

 

just got off the phone with dell.... they said they are aware of the problems with some M17x and win7 upgrade coupons. I should expect a coupon in 10-14 days. What a waste of 1 hour of my life (since i have technet). I'm sure i'll have to call again in 2 weeks.

 

the only thing that is not supported on win7 at the moment with the M17x is alienware fusion and sense, everything else will work properly.

 

Mine did not come with a coupon so i fired off an email to AW then 3 days later i got a response telling me i had to call Customer Care. I called yesterday and like the poster said above its a totally random thing who got the coupon and who did not . CC agent is supposed to call me back today . Strangest thing about the phone call though was the fact the agent asked me if i worked for Alienware ?. I have no clue where he got that idea from .

 

i coached my dell rep to exactly what i wanted.... a coupon. He tried to tell me about the dell win7 page and i told him alienware wasnt listed on that page, i need a coupon. Then he kept checking if i was supposed to get one so i pointed him to the alienware page thats says all systems get the upgrade, i need a coupon. Finally, after he spoke to someone else he said i should get a coupon in 2 weeks, but warned me that my system may not function properly. So if anyone else calls, stop the reps from wasting your time doing the normal things they try and do. Keep insisting on a coupon.

 

The guy knew i should have gotten a coupon and was actually well aware of the mistake of everyone not getting one . I was on the phone maybe all of the 10 minutes which was not to bad .

 

That is lucky..took me like an hour to get one...and I still haven't heard anymore about it. I called about a week and a half ago..CC said it would be 2-3 days :/.

 

has anybody who ordered early able to talk Dell into sending them a coupon? I was one of the first people to get the M17x.

 

i dont think so vandit... i ordered on the 26th of june and had to go threw alot to get my coupon which still isnt here yet.. i think i got a week left before it should be here... =/

 

When will Dell actually be installing Windows 7 on new systems? I ordered my M17x on the 30th of July and it won't ship for about a month. What are the chances Windows 7 would be pre-installed?

Otherwise I stand a fantastic chance at getting a upgrade coupon!

So is there a good number to call besides the one on DEll's websit?

 

I just call, I find it's faster and easier to get a direct answer. Call them up, ask for customer service and unleash hell .

Well according to the WEBSITE http://www.alienware.com/microsite/windows-7/windows-7-upgrade.aspx?source=ECH0033, the one I ordered from clearly states “When you receive your system, locate your Windows® 7 Upgrade Order Form.” SO FIX IT!

 

has anyone actually managed to get a win7 coupon in the early adopters group?

I had paid for my computer (according to bank statement) by the 22nd of June and I had it at my home before the 26th (2 day shipping).

I work closely with people at Microsoft s its not a huge issue for me either way, but I would rather get a normal copy then bother a co-worker for a free bee.

 

The coupon states" those who ordered the laptop at june 26th gets the coupon." those who ordered, reading comprehension for the win.

 

Where does it say that, can you scan the coupon? (obviously blank out the private info)

All im reading on sites is:

 

it says it in alienware.com also on dell.com and it is also on the microsoft.com windows 7 programs. You get the coupons for win 7 by purchasing any systems on june 26th to get your coupon for win 7 upgrade. microsoft has been doing this program since jun 26th.

 

i ordered mine on 5th June, received it on 27th June. I didn't get the upgrade form. now, considering that the M17x was released/available for purchase in June, Dell really should give the upgrade form to all AW buyers.

feels like i (and others like me) are being penalised for buying the M17x so soon after it was released/available.

 

again i said the program is for people who ordered on or after june 26th only.
its not for people who ordered before jun 26th.
in case you havent noticed which im sure that is the case. Dont blame it on alienware or dell this program was established by microsoft....I have known about this before purchasing m17x from dell. I guess youve been living under the rock for quite some time. This program was started by microsft itself, and was given to all vendors including alienware and dell and sager.

You shoudl have ordered on or after june 26th to receive free windows 7 coupon from microsoft because microsoft started this program not dell or alienware. Dont be blaming dell or alienware because you ordered your laptop before june 26th.

 

You know what suprises me the most? I actualyl follow microsoft annoucement i knew about the free windows 7 coupon in june. Microsoft annouced free windows 7 upgrade coupon back in may.

if u actually paid attention to what i said, "Dell really should give the upgrade form to all AW buyers." Dell could/can still give forms out for something like a new model in the same month as the offer. that's something they have to negotiate with microsoft. whether they did and failed or didn't try at all is another issue. would've been nice considering this was the first dell & AW prod release, despite the fact they AW was boughtover 2 yrs ago.

but yeah, had i followed MS's announcements like you did i still wouldn't have waited to order coz i'd then 1. wait & 2. pay more for vista ultimate so that my win7 upgrade would be to ultimate and not home premium or whatever the win7 equivalent is. with diff saved, i'll buy win7 ultim separately if it's worth it. vista ultim doesn't seem to offer much more 'useful to me stuff'. but win7 professional edition has the xp emulator thing which i want.

 

Just got my M17X, no Windows 7 coupon. I ordered mine through an EPP, it didn't state on the site that I would receive an upgrade.

I just called Dell Care and they said that the system I purchased was not eligible for the upgrade...bummer.

But I've got "eval" licenses from TechNet I can use.

 

People that purchased through EPP received there coupon and i should have one coming as well the guy said 10 days or so . I ordered thru EPP as well.

Just call them.

 

If you purchased your system on or after 6/26/2009 - This makes zero sense. Call them back and talk to someone else. Don't accept 'no' for an answer. If you get the run-around from the rep, ask for a supervisor immediately. Do not fence with the rep - deal with their supervisor.

Called Alienware customer service, who transfered me to Alienware Tech support, who transferred me to Dell Care, who then transferred me to someone else at DellCare. Final guy said they had internal problems with their Alienware customers Windows 7 Upgrade coupons. I would receive the coupon along with an additional booklet via regular mail in the next 2 weeks. He also stated that the upgrade code would be good until Jan of 2010.

spoke to dell acoording to the rep i talked to today all m17x owners will be receiving win 7 coupons within the next 2 weeks

 

I have been getting calls every day or 2 about the Harddrive cage and the Win7 coupon . These guys are really on the ball but sadly i have yet to receive either lol.

 

same boat my hdd caddy was ordered last week but hasnt made it to my house yet. and the only way to get status is a call in cause the only gave me a dispatch number which doesnt work online

another thing i noticed today is the service tag # on my M17x doesnt match the # dell has

According to Dell if you ordered before the 26th of june you dont get a coupon.

I dont agree with this because you did not get your machine before that date nor did you pay for your machine before that date , but this is how they are handling it sadly.

 

Yup. That's what I was told last month. I didn't push the issue since they gave me some ridiculous bonuses when I bought it. But since the poster did say " all" I thought Dell might have changed its mind.

i spoke to a dell rep and he said that everybody will be recieving a win 7 coupon all m17x orders even if u order before june 26

i order mine june 19th and he is sending my coupon

Do you know where on the dell website I can apply for the windows 7 upgrade... I ordered mine on june 25th 2 hours away from midnight... 2 hours before june 26th... I havent called them on this... but if there is a way I can upgrade via applying on the interenet if i ordered a M17x, that would be great!

I talked to them yesterday about it and they were told 4-6 weeks now keeps changing it seems.

 

Ya... Dell told me its going to be in 5-7 days, and that was 2 weeks ago =P I'm just going to wait and see what happens

 

I contacted Alienware and they told me i was not going to receive the upgrade coupon. Here is the email i received.

Dear Mr. Brown,

Thank you for contacting Alienware.

I regret to inform you that you will not be receiving a Windows 7 upgrade code. In this case, this option is only available for systems purchased after July 26.

Please accept our apologies for this inconvenience.
