Definitely update the first post when you get this with a review, should you have the time to. We're all interested in how good the m17 really is.

I'm not really a fan of its chassis design either, but everything else about it, including price for once, is great on paper.

E-Wrecked is a very experienced Overclocker. He has pushed the 3870s to there very limit, reaching blistering temps. The Q9100 is actually not that great for gaming. I know, ZOMG IT A QUADZ CORE! THATS 4 CROES, 4X POWERRRRR. No. Right now, the X9100 stock clocks is still farrrr better than the QX9300 OC'd.
Most people getting the Whitebook with P9500s and T9400s are getting 12000 - 13000. Thats comparable with the m1730's scores.

I think you made a mistake with going for a quad core, albeit the weakest quad core. For a couple dollars less, X9100 would have been far better.

Btw, where are these magic drivers going to come from? New drivers aren't just going to increase performance by 15%. The 3870 singular is ATI's answer to the 9800M GTS, and will always stay that level.

well, quad is the CPU of the future, and vista can take advantage of multicore CPUs, but some games can't. it's up to you, really.

 

The quad will be better for future-proofing (as much as you can can with a notebook anyway), might be worth asking if they are going to release it with the xtreme version of the quad chip?

Now that you mention it I have now performed extensive testing and there is NO Hinge Creaking or Cracking and the caseing is still perfect with no heat defects...

btw, ever experimented with external coolers to increase the mug's performance?

anywho..... they have the extreme quad for 430 dollars extra but its not really worth it since aw wont let u overclock through multiplier. so if u want to you void the warrenty. so im just going to future proof.

Yes there is, it is just overpriced. Q9100 and Q9300 are architecturally identical. Only difference is the clock speed that they operate at (more or less like T9300 vs X9000).

I would have bought it if there were more cache memory in Q9300. the more cache the better... waiting for the day to have our processors with 1gb cache memory

 

According to AW, the qx9300 has 12mb cache...which is more than any of the other processors they have listed, except for the q9100 of course, which isnt extreme.. So, is the quad extreme "better", if we throw the cost out the window?

 

Dude, Quad is only for bragging right when it comes down to it. You know it, but you are basically deciding if you want to brag more or not.

 

well ive decided to go for the qx9300 because aw said they might allow oc in the future with a bios update. also i think theres something different in the archetecture of the extreme aswell.

 

anyone have any idea if alienware will release a new 15" notebook? There current one is a bit out dated. They released a new video card for it but that doesnt make up for everything else.

I want to get one but I want to know if there even planning on updating the cpu, ram, etc(anytime soon) to more current ones like what the M17 has. If they are not going to update it then im just waste my time with them >.> also what ever happened to the black m15x? since April they said they bringing.

 

Sorry guys probably silly question take into consideration i have never bought a gaming laptop before but should i really care what size processor i get because to be honest i'm not really looking to go over the 2.53Ghz processor. I will be looking to use it for light gaming, photo editing and music creation.I'm not looking to go over $2200 in my budget and should i or shouldn't i go for the high res screen.

 

1920x1200 is very nice i would go for and you should go for the t9400 and u should still be under budget.

1) Does it make much sense to take a Xfire on a 1440*900? Should in game performance be a little better or not?
I do know that SLI at "lower" resolution doesn't help that much... for xfire is the same?

2) If I put my order by phone with an AW Rep should I be able to get a discount compared to web price, as for Dell, of it's just a waste of time?
