Yeah it does and big time as far as im concerned . i can tell you how to spot it also . so when you get your machine up and running again or your new one ill rain on your parade if you would like me to .

Any dark background and BAM!! Dim city . Expand say my computer where the whole screen turns white and you go blind. If you just watch the start bar in the corner while your minimizing and maximizing the screen you can see it going bright and dim and thats how you can tell the panel is auto adjusting itself.

If you like games which is why i bought mine then thats where it drove me mostly crazy since not all games take place in the daytime and the ones at night or just dark games in general get ruined by the effect .

Well theres no way around it sadly unless you buy another panel .


Now what we need next is someone to test another panel in the machine itself to make sure its not part of the design of the machine and hopefully just the panel itself which im betting 99% it is just the panel .


The panel i got it is in another thread . Maybe sleey0 has the actual part number written down .

Zfactor said he is trying to get more of that panel i know that so hopefully he can . Its around 300 nits a single bulb and very bright with gorgeous colors and should run you less then a couple hundred.


I would love to experiment with the machine i have here but this thing is pristine and being sold to a friend and i would hate to do any damage to it before its sold.

You wanna overnight me your machine thats going back and ill give it a try with the screen i have in my M17 .

Yeah if you can get a panel quick enough you could try but someone is going to have to be the guinea pig on this adventure . Id love to but again im afraid of scarring or doing any damage to the machine so its not happening on my end till i either get another one or someone happens to want me to try .


Yeah let me know. im not going anywhere so its in good hands you can rest assured . Since yours has been taken apart etc it shouldnt be as big of a deal either way.

Phone wont be a good judge of it and i would have to get something like 2 dark backgrounds and an expensive camera to really show off the difference.

White is astonishingly bright on the M17x its the darks that seem to have some trouble .

 

Id have to try and borrow a good camera from someone as the phone over saturates all the colors etc.

 

Well if you get to keep that machine and want me to try ill be happy to give it a whirl for the greater good of the community .

My biggest fear is getting any dust etc behind the panel and just taking his machine apart all the way again since its already been apart a few times because i had the Qx9300 in there etc. I just dont want anything to happen to it period then the sale is ruined for both of us which would suck quite frankly.

Im not loaded like some others on here /cough.

One request - once the panel is out, I need to see where the brackets are on the LCD. I'm basically trying to determine where the mounts are on it.

Not all panel have the same mounts so an aftermarket LCD might be a hassle.

 

yep the brackets are spaces about 6 in apart on either sides....from the dead on center of the sides 6 in to the left and to the right

 

All the 17inchers should have the same hole positions on along the sides. Or hopefully they do . There should be 4 screws holding each bracket on .

So the mounts are the same as the pic??

 

just 4 holes on each side, so you yank the old panel remove the brackets and put it on the new one.

Only issue with the TL A2 is you need to Dremel off the rivets holding that bottom and top bracket it off. i have done it on i think 3 or 4 replacement panels and its not that hard if you take your time. i just wear down the rivet then take a mini flatheat and get between the frame and the bracket and pop them up one at a time. sometimes you have to just bend it back and forth to get it to pop up. I spend time testing the screen plugged in looking for issues before i do that incase i would have to return it.

How do you test the screen before installation? Plug it up outside the case?

Exactly so it can be 100 percent tested long before you even pull the old one out of the glass. It sounds like abit of work but in reality it isnt . Cant wait though to hear some results from someone who has tried it thats for sure .

Just make sure there is no fine print stating they will ship you a 100% compatible panel if they dont have that one in stock .

Just message Z though first and see what he may recommend . He knows the good guys from the bad guys .

 

to be honest i was thinking about killing my gateway for the screen and shipping it to you or quad.....very nice screen to be honest...if my new asus last month had a 17 in it would f'in be perfect due to it being a led display

 

The gateway screen will work perfectly in there. If it has a nice one then just take it from that . Some 7805s shipped with nice LGs .


And wow you have a nice selection of rigs there thats for sure .

 

you are correct i wnet through 8 of them at best buy kept taking them back until i got the lg screen the others had a different one......very nice screen....

I had a 6831/6860/7811/7805 in my short time with Gateway . Sold them all to friends/family everytime the new one hit

My 7805 had the LG as well since my local bestbuys whole first shipment seemed to be all LG screens.
