So when can we expect the 740, 840 and 940's to be out for the Alienware?
-
-
>>>>>>>>> Soon!
-
Sweeeeeeeeeeeeeet.
Replacing a CPU is basically unplugging, then plugging the new one in correct? -
Rengsey R. H. Jr. I Never Slept
yes, it's plug n' play !!! -
cpu? i thought they were already out?..
-
720, 820 and 920 are currently out.
-
I guess I'll just wait till its out to order my M17 then. >.<
-
Makes me want to cancel my order and re-order with the 840QM. I know the upgrade is minimal and it's only a frequency upgrade but heck why not.
Also, performance will not be noticeable at all in between a 820QM and 840QM. I mean by that real life application performance. -
they are out? i ordered the 720 with my m15x lol.. i dont get it why everyone is saying its not out
-
These will fit current setups right? If I purchase now, I can plug n play later?
-
ohhh 740.. i see
-
You ordered the 720... NOT the 740. The 740 isn't out yet.
-
I really hope they are the same price or cheaper, will be mad if there is spike in the price. >.>
-
OMG newbie... The 720 are out and have been for a while the 740 is not out yet, heck it even has not been announced by Intel yet.
Read OP before posting... Thank you -
Yes you will be able to upgrade later
-
I'm pretty sure this was already adressed in a less offensive fashion.
-
lol you said newbie.. i didnt relize you said 740 im not paying attention.. and iam a "newbie" with computers
and again i wasnt paying attention to your full statement.. but yea your quick to talk words..aka "type" dont be smart -
Yeah soon, I believe the new A06 update on the m15x and the last bios update on the m17x added that function..
-
It was not offensive at all...
-
Yes, it's relatively easy to swap CPUs in M17X.
-
this guy needs to relax.
Youre not the "Chief" buddy. -
Exactly my point.
The "newbie" in question both admitted his mistake and was corrected by another forum member before he chimed it with his childish comment. -
No I am not and I don't want to be but to keep a forum together takes the will of the chiefs and ALL its members...
In the past week, we've seen people starting literally 6 threads on the same subject, ask insane questions and be more stupid than a fly.
Anyways, I love this forum, it is filled with very useful information and especially useful members that we can all count on for techniques on OC, installing new things, updating our PCs, etc... I am just less patient than others with stupidity. -

I believe 95% we will see these listed on the Dell site on May 28th or 29th.
And no I didn't ask a rep lol. This is a gut feeling I have which I'm pretty sure about, so I guess we'll see come the 28th/29th. -
And newbie is a very nice term... I too am a newbie in many things in life... It's just a polite way of saying you don't know what you are talking about.
I am amazed by how susceptible people are... OMG!!! -

I hope so but I doubt it. Not the 940xm anyway. -
Yep, I totally agree. It's coming very very soon. Dell usually updates his website on Wednesdays or Sundays so I would guess 26th or 30th or May.
-
I´m just wondering where you see the 940xm :S? On the link provided on the first page was only talking about the 740 and 840, did I miss something?

Oh okay thanks man! Not gonna order one but was just curious
.
Like this qoute, "The clock speed stops at 2.13GHz but this quad core automatically overclocks all the way to 3.33GHz. This will only happen if it doesn’t get that hot."
So basically no one knows what the clock speed will be right? -
I would assume that the 940XM would just be a 920XM with +133MHz across the board. Hence the maximum boosted clock speeds would be 2.4GHz on 4/3 cores, 3.2GHz on two, and 3.33GHz on one. However, there are electrical and thermal limitations to Turbo Boost which mean that when under full load with HyperThreading you probably won't get the full amount of boost.
If you want a good idea of how it will perform, just get someone with the 920XM to test their CPU and estimate how much impact the extra 133MHz has. -
While the boost is minimal, the price shouldn't be much higher (maybe even lower) due to the fact that AMD is trying to retaliate with mobile quads.
-
ATI is currently the top dog when it comes to GPU's(5870) they always lagged behind INTEL when it came to CPU's.
Hopefully this next generation of CPU's from ATI can compete, they will when it comes to price but performance well we will have to wait and see. -
Yea true! Would be nice if they had the same performance with a lower price
!
-
AMD may not beat Intel in performance here but in the price/performance/TDP - most certainly. Here are some detals.
The Black Edition 4x2.3GHz sounds interesting depending on how easily it can be OC'ed. It's only 45W BTW. -
Looks pretty promising.
What's with tri-core CPU's? -
The 940XM's have been on Ebay for a bit.
-
Good point! I would guess that the BE is gonna be pretty awesome for it´s price, looks very promising!

Provide the link please... -
Call me newbie too!
-
are these new processors made on a smaller wafer
-
-
Larry@LPC-Digital Company Representative
Of course they are...
That would have been alarming to say the least if they were the OEM's. -
Now are these new procs made on the 32nm architecture? And can we expect to see a new 32nm 6-core mobile CPU in the near future (smth based on the desktop i7 980x)?
-
I think it's almost certain that these are 45nm parts, and I wouldn't expect a hex-core notebook CPU until 22nm hits in 2012.
-
The bios update A06 for the M15x now supports the i940 chip with a 3.33Ghz cpu speed!
-
Sorry for a noobish question but how do you check it?
-
Heh, no prob that's what a forum is all about anyway huh? Sharing knowledge!
I just go on dell's support page, click on the bios, then you have an option, select Bios text file, download it, and you've got a long text file where it lists all the bios updates and what they were all about! -

Well we can hope the Genuine OEM of the 940xm will be out before schedule. I hope so. -

Hopefully this means ES 920XM's will drop in price a bit.
