i've tested the TI drivers and same problem, reboot.
I had to switch off the usb port to be abble to start again ... and another factory respawn.

Let see what the support will say on monday. But its appears we are about to send back the computer for a mobo replacement :( ... 2 days and another month to wait ... my first purchase with alienware is about to be the last.

Hi guys, have the same problem here. Talked to Alienware UK and the only answer they could give me was "Send it back. It will take 3 weeks to repair".

Damn, this really is annoying! As I see it, the only problem is that the mobil-bundle checks the firmware and then skips flashing because it can't identify the firmware, right? Isn't there any programmer out here who can just rewrite the installer to force it to skip checking and just flashing the firmware anyway?

I mean, it was my own stupid fault to try to install AlienFX 1.05, but in Europe no other was available and I thought it was only software... aarrgggh!

Yep the support told me: There will be soon a release for AlienFx to download and install.
the next day i go to the support page and see the AlienFx 1.5 and install it ... now begins the flash error process and the end of the story :(
It would be really nice if they could provide us a flashing utility that correct the problem ...

The installation file causing the whole flash problem for me was:
    AlienFX_1.5_en.zip

The CommandCenterBundleSetup-Mob-1017.exe should be the correct installation file. Problem is just that I had already tried to install the 1.05... If you stick to the mobile-bundle, you should be safe...

    Cheers,
    Aballister

Oh yeah, almost forget. Stick to the m15x-Ripley Design when asked for the device. There is an option for skull cap and the m17x, but I don't know if these are stable. So I wouldn't advice these selections...

I think it depends on where you are. Here in Germany, I got the 1017 from a support technician (as I can't download anything from myhive, everything greyed out...).

    Fluffyrug, Please Come Back!!!

No, seriously, I read that post already. That's why I was checking back here every 30 minutes today. I don't want to send it in either, not because of my stupidity  !!!
If there is a way to "reflash" the chip, I will try it. I need my laptop for work here and could send it in in a month the earliest anyway. (and even the it would suck, I freakin' want my lappy to stay here!!!) So again:

    FLUFFYRUG, PLEASE COME BACK!!! :notworthy:

Thanks, we are registered in the EU support and cant access files on the US server.
Is there a link to CommandCenterBundleSetup1090b.exe for us?
Could you give it (in private if there is a legal problem in posting it).
    Thank you for your help.

    Hi Guys,

You need to add the Intel Chipset drivers, but I created a slipstream disk using the tools here http://www.driverpacks.net/DriverPacks/ Use the 'DriverPack MassStorage'. Create a Windows XP disk using these and install using that, the driver for the M15X is included.

I know this probably sounds stupid but how the heck can I create the slipstream cd? I have the DP installed, copied the XP CD to HDD, integrated the chipset and Mass-storage drivers. What now? I tried creating an ISO with nLite but it states that the file-size of the XP folder on my HDD is only 507.8 MB (same as on the original CD). Are the new drivers incorporated anyway?

Thanks in advance, I really what to get that thing blinkin' again...

    Cheers,

Yeah, just create an ISO from the extracted and slipstreamed XP folder, and reboot and let it install. All should be ok, not sure about the size tho, make sure you have selected the right location for the copy XP disk. You could always try to burn it and see if it installs. Let me know how you get on.

For me F6 doesnt work because i dont have external floppy drive :( and my first attempt for slipstream XP with the additional drivers didnt work (i made the cd with nlite without any pb but still cant see the HD when installing).
I'll try to add some other drivers ... finger crossed.

You need to create a separate partition, using a tool such as Acronis Partition Manager. Then install XP to that partition. So that you can dual boot XP and Vista. Here is a step by step on how to dual boot with vista installed first. http://apcmag.com/how_to_dual_boot_vista_and_xp_with_vista_installed_first__the_stepbystep_guide.htm

Oh, still there... So: did the driver install straight away when you clicked the setup????

btw: Problem with dualboot was too simple. I simply had to select drive E: first and THEN set is to XP. Tried the other way around and the drive selection greyed out...

Aw damn, I am that close and now I can't install the proper driver. Did you do anything more? Disables the TUSB or something? Or is it possible that XP tries to install to C: and does not have the rights or something? Any Ideas? PLease?

finally i made it with XP and the flashing process thx to all of you.
The ligths are back ... but i'm back to my initial problem too : i dont have KEYBOARD lights.
The keybord has no light AND the AlienFx has no Keyboard zone to select.
I'm in 1.00.19 firmware and 1.00.19b command center. Do you have the KB lights guys?
