Are you sure you ordered the keyboard lights? you can get the m15x without them
btw are you now able to get your computer out of stealth mode?
-
Hi GRB,
there is no option about the keyboard light in the configuration process (on alienware.fr store). I check it again and the only option is : choose the color of AlienFx.
For the Stealth mode: i'm still in that mode and i still dont know how to get out.
The stealthmode button on the keyboard (right of the command center button) has no effect.
Maybe i'm to tired to find the way ... all that day to flash the TUSB3410 -
I have some bad news Concerto... it appears the default setting on the Alienware French site is to have a non-illuminated keyboard. Under the "Clavier" (keyboard) section is the following:
-
yeah also its my understanding that if you didn't get the lit up keyboard you can order it. I think they'll also let you install it yourself without sending it in.
-
that was a tricky one
a 3500€ laptop and a well hide 37€ option
tacomenace21 i dont know what is missing because the non lit keyboard has the transparency keys, maybe its some connector inside.
Thanks GRB for your help. Now i've to understand the stealth mode function and if its normal my CG i a half speed (memory and clock) but i should maybe start a topic on that one.
a big thx to FluffyRug for that amazing research and solution. -
yeah you really need to be able to get out of stealth mode a x9000 and 8800 and you can't go full speed!! ITS JUST NOT RIGHT!

@Concerto: if you say the stealth mode button doesn't work, do any touch-sensitive buttons now work? -
yes, the bluetooth, command center and wifi. the sound too but not so well.
The only that does no effect if the stealth mode button.
I dont see Stealth mode mention in AlienFusion but the Cg is at half speed 275/301. I get 10FPS in 3DMARK at the first sceene when the defenders get place behind the blocks.
for information i am pluggedin (not on battery) and the power option is set on PERFORMANCE. -
How about your CPU speed? To check, you can download a program called CPU-Z (if you don't already it, or another program that will let you view real-time CPU speeds)
http://www.cpuid.com/cpuz.php
If your computer is stuck in Stealth mode somehow, then the CPU speeds should also be affected
EDIT: What you should be looking for is that the "Core Speed" never gets above 1.1-1.5 GHz. The way to confirm if this happens is to start up something like a game, or just load a program and keep watching that number. If it still never gets above that range, then it appears you're stuck in some type of permanent Stealth mode. -
It is at 1595 mzh, i will install a game and play in a windows to keep seing cpuz.
when i quit 3DMARK, 2 sec after that i was abble to read the speed again, still 1,5
I have no game installed for the moment and its 4am ... i go to bed and tell you tomorow.
Thank you very much for your help. -
Alright, I'm 99% certain now that your laptop is stuck in Stealth mode. How to fix it, I have no idea. BIOS update?
-
I've tested it with superpi (the tool i use for my desktop to test overclocking) and it remains at 1,6 ...
you are right i am in permatent stealth mode.
For the bios i dont see what to do i am already in x32 last bios for the moment.
(score superpi 1M: 1m03s)
-
Yeah, I have no idea. I don't want to keep you up though; you might as well go to bed now (only because there's nothing else I can say/recommend at his point)

Hi guys,
To get the keyboard lights working you need to reinstall the OSD (onscreen display) this also controls the keyboard lights. You need to do a full install of all the drivers if you are doing a complete rebuild.
Fluff. -
-
^Concerto I don't know when you have buy your M15X but me I have buy mine the 27Feb and it been shipped 14 april. I have ordered mine on alienware.fr and my keyboard has light and it's fully workin....
-
Did you check the 37€ option in the keyboard section when you ordered it?
I check my command and it says : M15X STANDARD KEYBOARD FR
The killer word seems to be "standard".
The support told me i could order the light keyboard, they will sent it and help me install it if i need help.
My other problem seems to be solve ... by itself. Today i push the Stealth mode button like the other times ... and it works ... the CG is 500/800 mhz and the CPU to 2.8 ... its incredible nothing has change since yesterday ...
the SuperPi 1M : 16 sec most better than the 1m03
I whant to thank you all guys, that forum community is really great and helpfull. -
That's great news Concerto, I hope you can now actually play some games
-

Well yours does have the AlienFX keyboard... it is possible the default option was changed or there was no option to have a non-illuminated keyboard when you ordered K-nabeesse
-
Hey guys, just came home from work - still enjoy all the lights
But I now still have another minor problem and would like to ask you, if you could try something for me?
When you send your system to suspend (not hibernate), can you wake it with something else than the power button? I can't but the alien tech told me that I should be able to... Wanted me to send it in because of that, too...
Also, I don't have the power management tab when I rightclick e.g. the keyboard in the device manager and go to properties. Is that normal? I read somewhere that I could set up the devices that could wake my system there but since the tab is missing...
Got the Vista Home Edition.
Thanks in advance,
Aballister -
Most of my devices in the Device Manager also don't have Power Management tabs -- mainly only the USB Hub Devices have them
-
I didn't find ANY so far... And the tech guy told me that normally it should be possible to wake the system up by simply moving the finger across the touchpad, or e.g. pressing fn+F1...
The only way I can wake the system up is by pressing the power button or closing and opening the lid. Just wondered if my system really just is a lemon in that area or if nobody can...
Cheers,
Aballister
Uh, wait, found something... My USB Root Hub does have a power management tab. So at least is is there... Now it's just still the wake-up by keyboard question. Is the keyboard registered on your system as PS/2 too? -
are you sure your system's only in hibernation and not completely switched off?
-
no, I mean the suspend mode. When pressing the power button, system is up in 3 secs and all tabs are still there... Oh yeah, and I mean suspend to RAM, not hibernate to disc...
-
-
And can you wake the system up by keyboard??? And how? just pressing any key, FN+F1...
-
Well I mean, when I usually put my laptop into standby (is that what we're talking about here?) it's because I put the screen down. When I lift it back up, it wakes up.
-
Sorry for the late reply...
I know that one normally puts it to sleep by closing the lid, but when I have the NB on battery I probably want it to suspend if I am not working on it after say... 5 minutes. When I come back I want the simply wipe the finger over the touchpad and let Vista wake up.
That would just be convenient and a nice feature. If nobody else can do that either, I am content. But if I could wake it up like that and my system is just a lemon, I want to fix it...
(Hope you get my meaning...) -
Yeah, I understand what you're sayin. I just tried it now (went to the start button and chose "Sleep") and both the touchpad and keyboard didn't wake it up.
-
And do you have a power management tab (under device manager=> properties) for the keyboard, where you can set the device to wakeable?
It's just that I want to find out if my notebook is a unique case or if no-one can do that (because I was told by AW techs that it should work). They even told me I should send it in so that they can fix it (which I can't do before mid-july)... -
-
Hmmm... ok. But if they are not setable to wake, why would the AW guys want me to send it in?
Shouldn't these guys know what their systems are capable of and what not?
Thanks anyway, I'll just keep looking around the net from time to time to see if anything changed on that subject and keep my AW here - now that I have all the pretty lights back -
I wouldn't put too much stock into what the AW tech guys necessarily think. Unless someone else here is able to do it, then I wouldn't worry about it.

I did a reinstall of vista by myself. After installing (I'm from europe) the european command centre (1018) my keyboard doesn't light up again. I chose the m15x ripley (not the one without keyboard alienfx), when I was asked. I already reinstalled the command centre many times (also the osd) in many variations. Also tried the us 1090b command centre (no difference). The funny thing is that when I use the alienfxtest tool the keyboard does light up, closing the application undoes it. Command centre doesn't show the option to set the light for the keyboard (just like I wouldn't have alienfx). When turning Alienfx on or off, only the alienware text lights up.
I have my system for 2 days. Before vista reinstall all worked fine. (note: I installed Sp1 and all updates before installing the command centre)
I never installed any 1.5 version of alienfx or something else.
plz help!
THX! -
I did a respawn with the dvd and now it works again (for all that have the same problem)... I will try to install vista by myself again... hope it will work this time...
edit: it works now... I think it was either SP1 or the updates... I only installed the chipset drivers and osd before the command centre -
Good to hear, because I don't know if anyone here could have known what to do to help
-
That issue's been covered several times over already. Keyboard lighting is (for some god unknown reason) gated by the OSD software. No OSD software = no keyboard lighting control. Beats me why....
-
I have received the new keyboard today.
All is fine now (thx everyone).
The last tweek was to create a new theme. When you bought a "non light" keyboard M15x the default theme in alienfx does not have the keyboard, you MUST create a new one to access the keyboard light options.
I find that tonight. A simple but tricky one (the french alienware support was stuck on that one, i'll call them tomorow to give the answer).

joking aside, discussion about the TUSB3410 driver required by the Command Center to run the light effects. and some swearing about AW's warranty service and how they'll only service the first buyer.
