I had one or two, but I've lost them. I have a few at school, but I'm on hols atm![]()

I thought my ~1000 latency was good for a laptop..
Then I had my friend run the DPC latency checker on his Gateway 7811fx... His latency is less than 50 98% of the time with one or two spikes of 1000 very rarely..
I'd like to get my m15x down to 50 consistent... -
Did you try flashing to the X36 BIOS? The update fixed my latency from 12k to a constant 30-40. I'm on XP so i can't really tell if it will be the same for Vista...
-
I have not tried the x36 bios.. I've heard too many negative things on here...
-
really? nice. any Vista owners who can confirm this?
-
It works wonderfully on XP, but Vista on both 32-bit and 64-bit versions still experiences hovering around 1000-1500 us'.
-
oh, ok. so there's no point for me to upgrade from x32, as i can get under 1000 us already
.
-
Napbree should do fine with either the X32 BIOS or the X36 BIOS since he uses XP.
On another note, here is my latency with the X36 BIOS on XP.
-
Flashed to X36 from X32.
Have Vista Home Premium 32bit.
Latency is stable at around 1k.... No problems with fast typing/videos/nothing.
All is stable and in working order.
Only thing left to fix is that **** touchpad driver that will fix F12 !! -
Do you have the cpu temp bug where cpu reading is at a constant 50c? -
with the x36 bios, I am getting an average of 1000 latency
is it normal?
I am using Window Vista Ultimate 32bit -
Yes. For some reason, Vista has a higher DPC latency than XP.
-
Nope, CPU fluctuates. Right now its on 47c - 49c
System temp says 80c, but we have rather hot climate
VGA Skin 46c but im using the Internal one atm so i guess this is a fake measurement? -
The 80c is a bug and shouldn't be taken for the real temperature. It's a sensor bug that will be resolved soon.
(I sent them an email over the weekend about this and will be expecting a response later today, if not early tomorrow.) -
So that probably means here is another BIOS update...
-
Awesome dude.. Thanks for that. -
Not necessarily. The last email I received stated that they were developing a new thermal utility to address this issue. I just sent them an email over the weekend to ask for a status update on the thermal utility-- you know, to see how they have progressed on this thermal utility they speak of.
-
They are probably fixing issues with the new M17 and m15x(new gfx for this) !!!!!
-
Not really an update but I have updated my profile with my AIM and MSN screen names. I'm on most of the time so if you have any uncertainties or questions about the BIOS or anything else that is related to the m15x, you can contact me for some quick answers. I'll try my best to answer any questions you might have to the best of my knowledge.
-
Here we go. Received this email as soon as I got back from voting.
-
Rep +1
Thanks Oceanus!!! -
Awesome dude.. Its good you got a reply. I look forward to the next update.
-
Going to cross threads just this one time. I realize I've posted this in another thread, but here's a little update for those who check up regularly on this thread for updates.
I got the email this morning. I was planning on emailing her sometime this week to ask about it but she got to me before I had a chance to, haha. Anywho, here you go!

The new thermo fan utility should fix the temperature reading bugs associated with the X36 BIOS. Though I'm not too sure how this will fix it exactly, I'll take their word for it (for now). -
Wow! She contacted you, after asking once weeks before? And you didn't remind them in the mean time?
That's good CS! -
Roswell. they're from a different planet
-
...and yet, the irony about it is they are able to respond faster and are a lot more helpful than the normal CS living on the planet!
Aliens are truly great workers. -
Anyone see the irony in this statement...
(those from the US that is - and edited for real life)
-
I see a really bad pun in my statement if that's what you mean.
(and yes, they really are great workers) -
yeah, i was about to say something about that... it's all good Oceanus, you didn't mean it.
-
Yeah, been sick lately so it didn't pass my mind when I wrote it. I was barely able to think properly this entire day since I've been so out of it.
-
so any news when the fix will be out?
-
Not quite. I only got that email two days ago so I shouldn't expect it to be out too soon. The validation may take awhile.
-
due to ongoing troubles with my alienware m15x (let´s see if they are resolved after todays disassembling/reassembling session of my m15x), my support-contact also sent me a new bios-file - containing a X36 Bios.
In the BIOS, it´s listed as: vX36 P3A37
in fact, the latency problem has been (at least partly) resolved: my latency was 10-15k and is now 1k. -
I don't know about "P3A37" but the X36 BIOS has been out for a while, and though it did for the most part resolve the latency issue it also introduced a bug where the ACPI temp reading is stuck at 80C and furthermore the fan steppings have been altered so that the machine is much noisier now. This is unacceptable for most people and so we are once again waiting for a fix from AW.
-
But is this really the only problem with the X36? Is that the only bug that still needs fixing? Sounds to me like if AW fixed the temp reading bug the BOIS would be fine.
-
I used the X36 BIOS for well over a month and could find no good evidence that the temp error has any effect on which fan speed stepping the machine chose. That means that even if they fix the temp reading the machine will still be noisy as hell and I just can't live with that. Furthermore, the latency is still way high at 1K. It should be more like 0.1K. But I can't determine if that is the BIOS fault without doing some more system and driver diagnostics.
-
So wait. Are you saying the temp reading bug and the fan issue are unrelated?
But if these are the only issues, even though we shouldn't, we can expect a working BIOS next release. "Working" meaning without all the big issues. If all they have to fix is temp bug, fans, and latency. Crossing my fingers. -
I'm sure I've posted this somewhere but they even have acknowledged it themselves. I personally want them to fix the temp error so my machine could start reporting the temperature correctly. :\
The X36 BIOS fan speeds are indeed a lot higher than they should be and run a lot more often as well, and it does get annoying at times, but I'm finding that the temperatures stay a lot lower than they ever have with X32. Of course, it should be a given as to why, but eh, the DPC latency isn't too shabby in 32-bit XP and 64-bit Vista under X36-- as demonstrated below:
XP x32
Vista x64
-
I have noticed latency to reach 4000 if I keep DPC running and keeping system with very less load. May be a game of solitaire or just surfing the web. Will try to get some shots if I could.
-
anyone tried server 2008 x64 for the DPC latency?
I hope it's low too. -
Oceanus Try Vista 32.... Its 1k constant...
-
Yeah, as Fr33m4n pointed out a few posts before, the DPC latency is still around 1k on Vista 32. I suggest you revert to BIOS X32 to resolve that issue.
-
Meh, I'll live with it.... Windows 7 will probably solve it
-
My m15x is prety fast, but I do get stuttering quite often when I listen to music through iTunes. I'm using X32 BIOS and 182.08 graphics drivers. Will disabling the synamptics touchpad drivers help?
-
Hmm. What kind of stuttering are you getting? Stuttering in the music being played through iTunes or your notebook stuttering in general?
-
NapalmSilyPuddy Notebook Consultant
I ran the same test and mine is constantly around 130 with a max of 1167
-
So, are you running the X32 bios or the X36? The X32 has a lower latency rate for me.
-
Stuttering in the music - my laptop seems pretty fast generally. Although I played Microsoft flightsim X today and it was really choppy. I check the latency and there were huge spikes (over 16,000) all over the place.
Like I said, I'm using X32 BIOS. Any fix for this? -
while gaming, latencies are to be expected i believe. the music stuttering might be the X32 BIOS - have you tried X36?
-
If it's stuttering in the music, I suggest disabling PowerMizer. There should be a guide around here on how to do that somewhere on these forums if you're using Vista-- if you're using XP, just disable it through your NVIDIA Control Panel.
m15x Extremly high latency. Which driver is to blame?
