Has anyone tried ordering through EPP yet? I spoke to an EPP rep over chat and he claimed he couldn't configure the i7 version because it's not on the page. The Dell Home reps refuse to match the 10% EPP discount so far.
-
Not yet. Give it a day or two.

Well, I am sure you'd agree. There's always newer computer parts in the works. So all we need to do is continue looking ahead.

If the form factor is the same for both systems (which it seems to be) and Alienware offers an upgrade program, Then A00 and A01 M17x users should both be able to partake right?
Unless we're talking different power / adapters -

he said yup...should be fine.....i just dident like how he said ummm..yea you should be ok.... -
Thanks for the info on the 5870s ben.

Ok as its my thread im going to ask you guys a question
I currently have m17x qx9300 260sli sig spec's
This is being replaced with a new system have been offered m17x qx9300 4870 crossfire blueray 4gb 1333mhz to order today
or i try and hold out for a refreshed model i7 9200 4870 crossfire blueray etc
but might not get it or may have to pay price difference.
is the 4870 crossfire the solution to dpc latency or do i really hold my guns for refreshesd
I have been told i can wait for refreshed system but no garantee if the parts are available for my original system thats the one i will get -
benthedogtrainer Notebook Evangelist
and i also ordered this http://www.nushield.com/
just to make sure its protected ..in the order note's make sure that you tell them its for the m17x not the area 51m17x they get it right i have used these guys for a long time and they rock...
..so i would be more then happy to test the too for you
but imo ...i would get what you can now. This is being replaced with a new system have been offered m17x qx9300 4870 crossfire blueray 4gb 1333mhz to order today -
so ben, do you think its a good idea to go ahead and buy the refreshed model now and then just pay for an upgrade to the 5 series vid card in may?

As far as i can reading through the mountain of threads and posts the only people that the a03 bios still to have problems are nvidia cards.
All people with ATI cards seem to be ok, which seems crazy being an nvidia mother board.
I beleive there is a serious increase in performance of 4870 cross fire over 260 sli
its difficult gamble im playing, hold on or take the reasonable offer i have,
i7 would be brilliant as edit and encode video and audio, also why the lattency and audiio spikes are critical and rendered current spec un usable.
can't try a03 update as system is bricked.
pulling hair out waiting for uk site to offer this been checking every 5 mins since 10am -

Ok great thanks for advice, btw how do the upgrades work. I have never had one done before, would I just have to send it back to alienware and they will charge me accordingly?
-
benthedogtrainer Notebook Evangelist
to come and install them for you..
-
-

-
I think the problem was the 4870 with gddr5 wasn't stable so they had to go with gddr3. I don't think there were ever gddr5 cards produced.

yup i was one of them...pissed me off for a long time .it was confirmed even email at the time ...ddr5 they said and low and behold it was ddr 3...i was upset.......according to alienware they said it would have not made too much of a differance...but i say ,,,,YEA RIGHT

no way try a lot longer then that.....i would say expect at least 30 days for it to be at ur door -
Ok so, what do you suppose would be more useful, a faster processor (820QM with a single SSD or 920XM with a standard 7200RPM hard drive) or SSDs in RAID 0 (with a 720QM)? I'm having a hard time pulling the trigger...I've never really had a high performance system before.

Go with whatever CPU you can afford after that. -
Do we know what the new chipset is?
