They are only 2GB. Too bad they don't have 4GB options yet.

its all good when they do i will sell these cheap to moo ..then get those....lol
i still have extra 8 gigs of 1333 and 8 gigs of 1066
that i have siting around...lol -
Is it just me or am I the only one surprised no new graphic cards are being proposed as an option?
-
I am not surprised at all because i just dont think they are ready in mass quantities which is what someone like Dell would need... A few months though and there will be new options.. They clearly were itching to just get the i7 out on the streets and worry about everything else as time go's on...
-
With the x8100 and the G73 they couldn't wait around too long.
-
The problem is should I order now and upgrade later which I know will cost me about $1000 to upgrade both cards to new ones minus what ever I sell the 4870 on ebay for which I have no clue what that would be.
Or should I wait for the new cards before I order? -
Wow.
Sweet setup
I'd go i7-620 and RGBLED w/CF 4870s
-
With what you have now barring your not having any major issues like mass stuttering in games i would hold off maybe .. Now the flipside of that is if you sell now you might get more then a few months down the road
... Its a tough call but if it were me in your position that machine would be up for sale ASAP....
-
The only issue I see with upgrading afterwards is warranty.
If you buy the cards from dell ($$$) they may cover them under the laptop warranty. if you buy on ebay etc - no warranty at all.
IMO If you really want the new GPUs I would wait for them and purchase it with the new system -
I am not selling my current PC. I am giving it to my brother. My question was more if I order the M17X i7 with the 4870's and have to sell them in a few months on ebay to upgrade to either Nvidia or the 5870's I know they new cards will cost me about $1000 and selling each 4870's on ebay will bring in about $700 total therefore my out of pocket expense should be no more than about $300.
Would you guys wait until the new cards come in or would you just upgrade later down the road and sell the 4870? I am pretty sure they should be quite easy to sell in a few month.
I would buy the cards from Dell and sell the 4870's on Ebay. -
I'd buy now and then upgrade when mobile fermi becomes available.
-
Do we know if mobile fermi is going to be MXM 3.0b so I can upgrade later?
-
did you order that M17x in your Sig Joker ???
-
I don't think anyone outside nVidia or a person under NDA knows the answer to that but I'd say chances are good that it will be.
Yup about an hour ago!
It's already in production with an ETA of 02/03/10.
-
Cool
I am still debating on somehtng like yours or waiting for the 5870 cards to be relased
also been debating just calling dell and telling them i am not happy with all the issues with this m17x and ask for a I7 model. -
I think we won't see 5870 on the M17x until after CEBIT in March. 5870's might be 10-15% faster overall but it's not a big enough difference to really worry about IMO. DX11 might be a compelling factor but I won't be keeping these 4870's long enough to care. I want mobile fermi more than anything else. -
What is that ???
-
i will wait too, i mean i definitely know if i would have the 4870 and see in a few months there are new components, i would really get mad
-
I think you might be right joker...
How much do you think each 4870 cards would sell for on Ebay? -
It is available on the EPP site yet? And while I can live with ATI over nVidia if I had to I don't see an option for Complete Care like the older one. Is that covered under the Advanced Warranty?
-
It's nVidia's newest video card with DX11. You will see it announced at CEBIT for desktop release and I'm guessing mobile fermi sometime in the summer or early fall the latest.
I honestly have no idea. Maybe $500 each? That's what the going rate seems to be on a 280M.
Call an EPP rep on the phone and they will take care of it. I got my 10% off but it looks like I'll have to call DPA to get the other 3%. Advanced includes complete care now. -
That would be great because it would mean I could probably have little out of pocket to upgrade to the new cards.
-
Thanks! Crunching some numbers and hopefully I'll get in order in today!
-
Keep in mind by march the 285M will also likely be available so it will probably drop the 280M value by 50-100 dollars. -
Sweet , I have been wondering when we were going to see a DX11 card from NVIDIA
Maybe I will have to consider replacing my GTX-295 Hydro this year -
The name for the next gen nVidia cards. Just like Broadway or Evergreen for the ATI cards.
-
Your money, if your send back a system, will be credited to your account 12-15 days after dell recieves your system
I want in on this. Just might be awhile before I get it and at that point not sure if I want to wait for the 5 seris cards or not -
You're a smart man
I'm waiting a few months though. Hopefully 5870 out by then with some more solid mobile fermi info. -
Hey Drake,
Out of the following CPU which would you get? Take this into consideration. I don't care about spending the extra on the Extreme if it's worth it but if it brings no value then there is no reason to spend the money on it... Also taking into consideration I'd like to OC easily
* Intel® Core i7 620M 2.66 GHz (3.33GHz Turbo Mode, 4MB Cache) [add $150 or $5/month1]
* Intel® Core i7 720QM 1.6GHz (2.8 GHz Turbo Mode, 6MB Cache) [add $150 or $5/month1]
* Intel® Core i7 820QM 1.73GHz (3.06GHz Turbo Mode, 8MB Cache) [add $450 or $14/month1]
* Intel® Core i7 920XM 2.0GHz (3.2GHz Turbo Mode, 8MB Cache) [add $1,050 or $32/month1]
Thanks so much for the help. -

We need to see the new bios for the M17x before answering that. Normally I would go right to the extreme proc.
-
is this the same i7 920XM 2.0GHz (3.2GHz Turbo Mode, 8MB Cache) which will be in new g73? so does it mean its also extreme?
-
Yup
/10char -
Mandrake, I will go with the 920XM then...
One more question, is there a point to spend $150 on windows 7 professional compared to home premium if all I do with that PC is gaming and newbie OC? -
Unless you need to connect to a domain, want remote desktop, or need the encrypting file system then home premium will be just fine.
-
Yes home premium is fine
-
Thanks Mandrake. Order is done:

Ok, I'll do that.
For the HD, why is the Intel better than the Samsung? -
Plus intel - 160 Gb
dell - 256 GB
I have tow of the Dell (Samsung) drives they are fine IMO -
It's not Samsung I don't like it's the Dell proprietary firmware on it. My new rule is never buy OEM SSD.
-
Those drives suck! I hope no one suckered you into buying theirs.
-
I can't find 6gb of memory on the one you linked me. They only do 2x2.
-
Yes. 2GB is the highest right now. Do you utilize all 6GB?
-
why do you thnk they Suck.?
I am getting 200 MB/sec transfer rates stand alone and a burst of 270 MB/sec in Raid 0
Sure they have a proprietary firmware but dell will release the firmware for TRIM shortly.
For the price the Dell is a much better deal ( at least in Canada) as any256 Gb SSD drive here is ver 2x the price i paid for these -
I was kidding. Don't you remember that I sold you the SSD?
-
no I didn't know your NBR name here lol
-
Well I know in gaming the 4gb is plenty but I do a lot of photoshop editing and I am pretty sure I use more than 4gb sometimes. -
I thought it was obvious that everyone on NBF was calling me Mandrake even though my Alias was nwguru, lol.
