i thought Vista can boot off of thumb drives as well? oh wait, yeah, the source of the problem is XPmy bad
-
I got the same error when burning the image. What you have to do is make sure you change the option to "track at once" instead of "disk at once"
-
Try to burn CD by "Alcohol 120%"
-
-
I have stressed my CPU with RMClock and orthos even before the BIOS flash and I didn't have any troubles so it wouldn't make any difference to do it again.
However, I do notice that the CPU fan does come on more often now when my CPU temps rise. But not too much to annoy me. Overall this is a good BIOS update.
Now, I'm waiting for the new thermal monitoring utility from AW to be released. ^^ -
Either way, you are right, you need to be on "track at once". -
Wow isn't this nice of them to release a BIS upgrade for the X9000 owners. What is some 6 months later.
I hope it really work for those people with the extreme CPU' -
haha, don't you wish you had an m15x now.
-
Ahahaha... I kill myself!
-
-
and yes i am baiting you...
-
I am not bitting!
-
I installed the x34 BIOS on my m15x, and the first thing I noticed was that there was a lot of popping and noise in my sound output. I didn't try troubleshooting too much, but I reverted back to the x32 from an older CD and the sound problems went away. I wasn't experiencing any CPU downclocking, or I never noticed, so it's no big deal for me.
-
This BIOS has nothing to do with the sound output. Did you try reinstalling your sound drivers? I don't have the problems that you mentioned.
-
I am afraid to install this BIOS because of the noise of the fans. Can anyone give more details about that? please?
-
Wow 6 months later..............
This company never fails to suprise me....
Give a man a cracker who has not eatin in a week and it will be the best cracker he has ever had. Like AW they keep us starving for these updates and when we final get them its like....well I think you understand...wish AW gave constant updates like Apple.

I wonder.. If milcs hadn't visited this forum before he got his m15x, if he'd still have it
@Taco - They sure should give you credit for doing all the work you did, a preliminary testing of sorts -
-
-
What games are you playing when you are getting the pops? Does this also happen when you are listening to music via Windows Media Player??
-
no such problems for me yet, this was a worth it upgrade.
-
Hey guys, the new thermalfan utility has been released!!
http://aliendl.alienware.com/Mobile/m15x/Software/ThermoFan.exe
However, my school firewall won't let me download the file! Can someone help me out and upload it to a different site for me??
-
Can someone remind me how to update the BIOS?
I burn the image to disc (which option do I select in Nero)?
Then I boot from the disc?
Can I use a DVD?
Thanks -
Nero Express Essentials > Image, Project, Copy > Disc-Image or saved Project > choose the BIOS update > choose " disc at once" on the left side > lower the speed setting up top to ensure no errors will occur (this is just a safety measure) > click "burn"
that's the burning part. now, reboot, and when you see the alien head, hit F12 repeatedly. then, choose the optical drive as boot device. after that, it should run the update automatically.
hope that helped.
PS: about the DVD: you can, but it'll be a waste of a good DVD... -
DVD's are cheaper than CD's these days.
-
-
UPDATE: mkay, it works now. as expected, Rivatuner gives me 52°C, Thermofan gives me 57°C and 48°C.
-
hey Lessaj7 did the update help you?
-
I just flashed the BIOS
No problems with sound
The touch controls do seem more responsive, especially volume
However, Thermofan is telling me that the CPU is now idling at 65, with X32 is was about 48. The computer doesn't seem any hotter - is Thermofan just reporting wrong? If not, and this is accurate I think I'll go back to X32. -
thats very weird all my idle temps went down
-
Also, I take it back - the audio is popping. Alienware James, can you check these issues?
I'm going back to X32 -
-
I flashed the BIOS while I was using integrated graphics - would that make a difference?
-
-
can you zip the program using winzip or winrar. Thanks exiled. rep for you.

Thanks a lot exiled. Finally it works!! ^^ I'd rep you but stupid thing won't let me.
-
just installed thermal fan. question...how does it work. does it display when i play a game or i can bring up a window that will tell me the temps. where can i find the exe to bring up the window if there is one.
EDIT:Nvm i just figured it out -
I'm undervolting, I haven't installed it. Undervolting works fine for me, and my touch controls work perfectly fine.
-
Hmm. Seems like I'm not the only one where idle temps have gone up after the bios flash. I'm considering going back to X32
-
I just flashed the x34 BIOS, but where can I find this "thermal fan" ? -
you need to download and install it. dhoang posted a link a few pages back.
-
Found it thanks
Oh and the BIOS did help a lot with the responsiveness of the touch controls. Touch controls now work all the time after sleep mode.
I do have another follow up question though.
Thermo Fan and Rivatuner seem to be giving me different temps. Which one is more accurate? -
i've noticed the difference too. Rivatuner gives me 5°C more than TF internal. i wonder if Rivatuner takes the average of internal and skin, cuz TF gives me 56 and 46, Rivatuner gives me 51...
-
On a side note. The X34 bios has enabled me to make volume down touch control function for the first time since I got the machine. Yay! -
My volume touch controls are very responsive now after this BIOS update. ^^
-
mine is more responsive too. its even more responsive than the v41 update. i believe the volume touch control is finally working as it should be.
-
