Any good Mac books? (Not MacBooks) (;

I finally pulled the trigger on a MacBook yesterday evening, I've been debating for a few months now but after falling in love with my iPhone, I had to give OS X a try. It should be here within the next few days and I'm so excited!
Anywho, any good books out there for newbies like me?

in short, you don't need one.

after getting used to it i don;'t feel different except for having less things to do on mac(name games, and few other). but if you have iphone/ipod, etc apple ou would notice the better integration.

have fun with the purchse, i enjoyed it

 

Just search (either online or using Spotlight) if there's something you don't know how to do. A book is nice for reference purposes, but otherwise it is unncessary.

 

I know you are asking about books, but if you love to read magazines then I would recommend you go to the nearest book store and see if they sell MacWorld & MacLife magazines. Skim through it and read the tips & tricks section. Actually, you will be able to get a discount to order them since you bought a Mac. Back to the matter at hand, those tips & tricks have helped me here & there. Plus, the mags have cool stuff & info in there to boot.

A friend of mine said the Mac OS X Leopard Bible was a really good reference point for him. I sent this book below to my brother when I gave him his first MacBook Pro earlier this year. Thumbing thru it, it seemed like a good buy for someone fresh and new to Macs, which my brother was. He said that its helped him out quite a bit

I was in Barnes and Noble today, and I was looking through the OS X books, and there were a ton! I picked up the Mac OS X Bible and that had many good tips and tricks, and would be great for a new Mac user!

I bought it about 9 months before I finally got my MacBook. IMO, for a dummy like me, that book is worth every penny.

 

I learned most of the new stuff in help, so a mac book is not really helpful. So what I did when encounter something new or need to do something that I didn't know what to do, I look it up in help. Just typed in what I need, and I pretty much got my answer from it. I mastered some of the most useful and daily used programs in about 1 day just by using help.

 

Aren't Macs supposed to be intuitive and user friendly enough that you don't need third-party guidance?

 

OS X is very different from Windows, so some long time Windows users might become confused when they initially try to use OS X. For example, the root folder in Windows is the desktop, while in OS X it's the HD. So some Windows users might become confused when they're trying to access the desktop in Finder.

This book is great : Easy enough for beginners to understand and jump to the section they need help with, a bit of humor, but also has some in depth coverage of more advanced things like Automator, that you might find useful as your skill level grows in OS X.
