Screens on the 13" Macbooks have been updated for a about a month now. Supposedly they are better quality than the 9C89 and 9C8C screens.
Maybe that's what they are referring too.
-
Yeah, I read about that. It could have been a referrence to that. But it would be kind of odd to try and sell a month old screen update during the keynote as "new" for the unibody rebrand though. I guess we will have to wait and see to find out for sure.
-
*drools* if only it looked like that! *cries* I'd eat my ETF with Verizon in a heartbeat to jump ship....
-
I think the new screen was only for the 15" MBP. 60% higher gamut they said... I think.
-
Did I hear correctly that AT&T still isn't doing MMS support until late summer...
Wow... -
well, from THEIR point of view, what they did is totally logical.again,"why fix something that is not broken" philosophy! Current design very comfortable and looks good! So why spend money on redesign?I bet they ll be forced to do that in 0.5-1 year!
-
I just looked at the Apple website... According to their wording (well, the way I read it) *all* Macbook Pro's have received the new screen. If they did in fact put a 15" Macbook Pro quality screen on the 13" Macbook Pro, I'll be all over that.
From the "A Display of Brilliance" section, half way down on the Features page:
-
They may have done that to gauge the general public reaction to the newer & improved screens.

Yes, I do. In fact, I always buy an extra battery for all my notebooks. On my daily routine, I usually travel with my notebook & an extra battery instead of my notebook & the AC adapter. So to weird people like me, this change to a user non-replaceable battery (although for more battery life & an even thinner profile) is not appreciated.
Furthermore, if your battery fails (touch wood, don't want this to happen to me or anyone else
), you'll have to send your MBP to Apple for replacement. Given my past records with electronic repairs (yeah I know, with the kind of luck I have, you can call me a jinx
), I'm very likey to receive it back with at least 1 or 2 deep scratches on the serviced product.
-
I posted hastily in my extreme excitement.
-
Well the good thing with Apple is that the adapter is lighter and smaller than an extra battery. So you've been spared
-
batteries never die "suddenly"...and you another option-go to nearest store, wait 15 minutes till they replace it and take it back
-
i think you mean rarely, not never....
they can die suddenly with no warning, its just not very common. -
^no it can not!batteries start to lose they capacity by time,so you ll notice months before it will dye... OC,battery can fail bc some other problem, but with same luck 2 batteries can dye,so...
I have owned maybe 30 different laptops in my life(now have 10) and batteries never dye suddenly ... -
Regarding your 1st point, it appears that the whole MBP line (13, 15 and 17) is getting the same screen that was first introduced on the unibody 17 which Apple says is better than the ones on the 1st gen unibody 15, which itself was an LED-backlit screen and from my personal experience a beautiful one.
As for your second, Apple is promising up to 7 hours on the 13, 7/6 hrs on the 15 (Integrated GPU/Dedicated GPU use) and 8/7 hrs on the 17. -
The first gen Alu MBP with 9C85 screen had 974:1 contrast, which is extremely high. ( link)
I doubt the 13" MBP will come close to that. It may have a higher gamut though. At least that's what Apple claims. -
Yep, I agreed that the MagSafe adapter is lighter but unfortunately, I don't have access to a power outlet at the place I regularly go to to do my work. Therefore, the non-user replaceable battery is of no use to me, unless I bring along a backup notebook.
If I'm to do that, then what is the point of having a notebook when you have to bring 2 notebooks along instead of 1 notebook & 2 or 3 batteries?
I usually try to finish what I have to do within 1 battery's maximum charged capacity. I usually don't have to swap to my backup battery, but there are a few times, I need to do that.
People having similar usage as me will understand what I'm talking about.
I have owned my fair share of notebooks over the years & you're right for the most part. Unfortunately, I've had a battery "suddenly" die on me once a year or so ago & I'm glad to have it replaced within warranty. For your info, that battery did not show any signs of failure & it just died suddenly.
That happened when it was only used for 2 & 1/2 months.
-
By the way, did anyone notice that the 2.66GHz CPU used in the new 15.4" MBP has only 3MB L2 Cache instead of the 6MB L2 Cache in the "older" 2.66GHz MBP (MC026LL/A)?
-
That limited of experience and your willing to say it's impossible?
I've seen quite a few with sudden deaths. Was always skeptical that there were no signs as the end users claimed, until I had a Dell battery in a personal laptop die on me suddenly. -
^you just plugged it out and it died?
Apple Store down. They're updating the store.
