"Your video magnifies the difference between a culture driven by Steve Jobs and one driven by Tim Cook. It is unacceptable to put any customer through what you have experienced. I realize it takes a tremendous amount of effort, which leads to stress, to force companies to do the right thing. My advice is to press the people at AppleCare and in your local store to fix or replace it or refund your money. Don’t let them off the hook. Bad actors should not be rewarded and Apple needs to fix it, now, now, now!"

"Random crashing and random not charging is the most miserable thing to solve unless it is a known issue with that specific board that you found after having 18-36 months to analyze it, or something visibly wrong... fixing that is going to be a nightmare."
Apple continues to fail as the steward of technology with tremendous responsibilities for 100's of millions of owners.
Apple have made so much cash they don't know what to do with it - and instead of putting that money to good use, Apple simple doesn't have the will to do the right thing for their customers as the default response. Instead Apple put's together BS that points the blame back and the owners who for the most part haven't the technological know how to realize they've been hoodwinked by Apple for decades.
Apple isn't your friend, Apple wants your money, and Apple doesn't want to give you anything more than they are forced to give.

MacBook Pro’s Butterfly Keyboard Class Action Lawsuit Moves Ahead; Apple May Need to Compensate Customers wccftech.com | Today
Even though Apple has introduced a new scissor switch keyboard with its 16-inch MacBook Pro launch, it doesn’t mean the class action lawsuit surrounding the MacBook Pro’s Butterfly keyboard has been laid to rest. In fact, a federal judge earlier this week rejected Apple’s request to drop the lawsuit surrounding the faulty keyboards, meaning that the proceedings will move forward as originally intended.
Class action lawsuit is the last way to try force Apple to admit that they create flawed products and need to pay for it afterwards...

Apple fails to end MacBook 'butterfly' keyboard class action
DECEMBER 2, 2019 / 12:17 PM
Jonathan Stempel
https://www.reuters.com/article/us-...butterfly-keyboard-class-action-idUSKBN1Y629A
"A federal judge on Monday rejected Apple Inc’s ( AAPL.O) bid to dismiss a proposed class action lawsuit by customers who said it knew and concealed how the “butterfly” keyboards on its MacBook laptop computers were prone to failure.
U.S. District Judge Edward Davila in San Jose, California said Apple must face claims that its troubleshooting program did not provide an “effective fix” for MacBook design defects, or fully compensate customers for their out-of-pocket expenses while seeking repairs.
Customers claimed that their MacBook, MacBook Pro and MacBook Air laptop keyboards suffered from sticky keys, unresponsive keys and keystrokes that failed to register when tiny amounts of dust or debris accumulated under or near keys.
They also said Apple’s service program was inadequate because the Cupertino, California-based company often provided replacement keyboards that had the same problems.
The lawsuit covers purchasers of model year 2015 or later MacBook laptops, and model year 2016 or later MacBook Pros laptops. It seeks a variety of damages for violations of several states’ consumer protection laws.
Apple did not immediately respond to requests for comment. Benjamin Johns, a lawyer for the plaintiffs, said he was pleased with the decision and looked forward to pursuing the case.
Last month, Apple introduced a MacBook Pro with a larger screen and new “Magic” keyboard with the “scissor” mechanism more commonly found in the industry. The hinged butterfly mechanism resembles a butterfly’s wings.
Mac sales, including various MacBook models, accounted for about 10% of Apple’s $260.2 billion of net sales in its fiscal year ended Sept. 28.
The case is In re: MacBook Keyboard Litigation, U.S. District Court, Northern District of California, No. 18-02813."

Apple Needs To Lose The #KeyboardGate So That They Can Learn A Valuable Lesson
Posted in Commentary with tags Apple on December 4, 2019 by itnerd
https://itnerd.blog/2019/12/04/appl...te-so-that-they-can-learn-an-valuable-lesson/
"...The only way Apple truly could put an end to this was to bring back the tried, true, and more importantly reliable scissor switch keyboard in the 16″ MacBook Pro. And you can fully expect a version of that keyboard to appear in every MacBook or MacBook Pro that Apple releases going forward.
But the damage is done and here were are talking about it.
The thing is that this class action lawsuit is about Apple’s failure to provide a remedy to this problem. And based on the above, they haven’t. Sure they tried to redesign the keyboards a bunch of times, and sure they have a repair program to try and address #KeyboardGate issues. But neither of those actions actually fixes the issue. Which is the keyboards are flawed. So that combined with their absolutely shambolic response to this issue is why Apple deserves to lose this lawsuit.
Apple has to learn how to deal with problems outside the “reality distortion field” which means that instead of dismissing issues by saying that issues aren’t widespread, or they just affect a few people, they need to own up to them at the earliest opportunity. And then they come up with a fix for those issues in a way that they stay fixed. If they can’t figure out how to execute those things on their own, the then legal system will have to “encourage” them to do the right thing. Which is to provide a remedy for #KeyboardGate that is actually a remedy."
This has been going on for far too long, and Apple keeps selling the faulty keyboard laptops without fixes, and replaces those failed with faulty replacements...
Apple will fix your broken keyboard

I Tested Apple's Butterfly Keyboard Replacement Program (they lied to me)
Jun 30, 2018
Luke Miani
In this video we’ll be putting Apple’s Butterfly Keyboard Replacement to the test to determine if it actually solves the problem! After a few days of letting crumbs and dust build up, and intentionally not cleaning the keys like I normally do I had numerous keys that were completely stuck, especially the spacebar, which became unusable.
The Apple Genius lied to me. He gave me false, misleading information about this program and what it does to solve the problem, which is nothing. The Butterfly Keyboard is fatally flawed, the small travel and spacing between the keys causes them to be easily blocked by dust and debris, leading to complete failure of the keyboard.
This problem applies to:
* MacBook (Retina, 12-inch, Early 2015)
* MacBook (Retina, 12-inch, Early 2016)
* MacBook (Retina, 12-inch, 2017)
* MacBook Pro (13-inch, 2016, Two Thunderbolt 3 Ports)
* MacBook Pro (13-inch, 2017, Two Thunderbolt 3 Ports)
* MacBook Pro (13-inch, 2016, Four Thunderbolt 3 Ports)
* MacBook Pro (13-inch, 2017, Four Thunderbolt 3 Ports)
* MacBook Pro (15-inch, 2016) * MacBook Pro (15-inch, 2017)
I really find it sad that this issue exists, as I personally love the tactile, snappy feel of the butterfly keyboard, but to have components on high-cost professional and luxury machines fail so regularly, and to have Apple essentially give customers the finger by not altering the keyboard design is very distressing Details on Apple’s Replacement program: https://www.apple.com/support/keyboar...
This is the dream of owners replacing multiple - even single - faulty keyboards in the "keyboard replacement" program, which simply puts in another new faulty keyboard in place of the dirty faulty one that is failing now - the new replacement can and likely will fail later, repeating the replacement cycle.
Dave Lee mentions that the new (old) scissors key keyboards going into the new Macbooks to solve the faulty keyboard (butterfly) could also be retrofitted to fit into the old Macbooks so owners could get a replacement keyboard that is good and lasts a long time instead of getting another faulty butterfly keyboard.

Unfortunately Apple has continued to put fault butterfly keyboards into the keyboard replacement program instead of truly fixed scissors updated keyboards, and that's why the lawsuit is moving forward - among other things. -
Will this be the PopGate?
Apple’s 16-inch MacBook Pro problems certainly don’t involve vulnerable butterfly keyboard switches or overheating as they did on previous-generation models. Instead, it’s a recurring problem that has afflicted Apple’s notebooks before too. Here’s what owners have to say about the latest string of issues plaguing the new 16-inch MacBook Pro.
16-inch MacBook Pro Problems Such as ‘Sound Popping’, Clicking & More Reported by Users; Simple Software Fix or Hardware Defect? wccftech.com | Today
The second issue surrounding the 16-inch MacBook Pro is display ghosting. Apparently, even after paying a premium for Apple’s latest and greatest portable Mac, users are complaining about a slow response time from the screen, resulting in what’s known as a ‘ghosting’ effect when scrolling through text. Some users aren’t too bothered about these 16-inch MacBook Pro problems, while others are returning their purchased units and exchanging them for new ones.

After 4 months of daily use, the keys of my previously repaired MacBook Pro started playing up again. In this review we take you through the various levels of Apple Support to find a resolution. KEYBOARD REFUND REVIEW After 3 months of use my keyboard started failing, so I took it to the Apple Store and they replaced the keyboard in about a week. After another 4 months the replacement keyboard started failing again. I decided to grin and bear with it as I needed the computer for work. Unfortunately after another 2 months it became very unproductive to use, so I took it to the Apple Store again. I had previously heard that they would replace the 2018 keyboard with the newer 2019 nylon keys which were noted to be more reliable, but unfortunately I was just offered another 2018 keyboard replacement. At the store, the manager said that a keyboard issue was just a minor issue, and that it was just best to contact Apple Support to see if they could do anything about it instead. On the phone Apple Support said they viewed the keyboard not functioning properly as a major failure, but all they could offer was a repair unless I had something else in mind. I mentioned that on their website it says according to consumer law I should be entitled to a replacement or even refund after a failed repair. She said that a refund would be hard but a replacement could be possible. After a week or so, I finally got back in touch with Apple Support as I had previously missed the calls of the advisor. At this time I felt guilty thinking that expecting a working keyboard was bad. The advisor on the phone told me that they could offer a replacement, but the prices had gone down in price, so I had to add on some upgrades to match or beat the price I paid, which I did and provided payment details for. Unfortunately, the replacement request was denied citing that they could only replace my MacBook with another 2018 model, so I asked for a refund instead as it was the keyboard I was concerned on.

16 inch MacBook Pro Speaker POP Issue + Workaround

Overall I love the 16 inch MacBook Pro. HOWEVER, there is an issue impacting all units I've tested where the speaker exhibits feedback popping whenever audio channels are ungracefully interrupted. I do however, also offer a workaround for any fellow 16 inch MacBook Pro users that you may find helpful.

It seems due to a SW bug which debugs/tests audio from speaker might cause the hardware to fail in near future. -

When I had a MBP from 2011-2015, my service experiences with Apple, both on the phone and in store, were superb. It's apparent that the quality of service has declined over the years.
Recently, the tip of of the AC adapter on my Lenovo Y545 cracked. I put in a support ticket online, and in less than a week, I had a replacement unit in-hand, no questions asked. For whatever reason, they don't want the old unit back, so I'm not quite sure what to do with it. I'm sure it could be repaired, but I don't have the skill or equipment to try so I'll probably take it to the local electronics recycler.Vasudev likes this. -

Apple gets a fine of 1.1 billion euros in France
Published on March 17, 2020 by Günter Born
The French government's competition regulator has fined Apple a record 1.1 billion euros for anti-competitive behavior.
In addition to the fine of 1.1 billion euros for Apple, the two Apple wholesalers Tech Data and Ingram Micro were fined 76.1 million euros and 62.9 million euros, respectively. This is clear from this French press release . The fines are due to cartel practices that Apple and wholesalers have practiced in the French market. Apple is accused of using three anti-competitive practices within its non-iPhone electronic sales network in France. -

2020 iPad Pro Bend Test Shows Apple’s New Tablet Is Just as Fragile as Its Predecessor, so Be Careful wccftech.com | Today
There was also a bend-gate-like controversy surrounding the 2018 iPad Pro models, so let us see if the same thing happens with the newest editions. Shortly after the 2020 iPad Pro bend test, a teardown was performed by the YouTuber, showing that there were hardly any differences surrounding the two generations of tablets. Think of it as a minor refresh, but at least you’re getting more cameras, and all storage versions now sport 6GB of RAM.

Ok, the biggest thing with apple is plan obsolescence. My 2007 macbook is a paperweight. All software on my 2007 macbook is useless. Apple will not update their software on older machines. I tried to get my older software I paid good money for on my macbook. They said nope. Ok. I pulled out my acer 7720 which was released the same month as my macbook. I am typing this on the Acer now using windows 10 1909. On a computer from 2007. You can't do that on 2012 macbooks. This acer is skipping along great. I am downloading all my latest software and what not. Surfing on safari on my 2007 macbook is laggy, slow and crappy. There is little value in buying an apple PC. The mobile space is different for the most part. Besides comparing ipads to Windows based tablets because again, you are going to get much longer support from windows than you are iOS. But phones, Apple has it down. 5 years of updates on a phone is great. I had to keep my iphones because the app environment is better than my android versions of the same apps, and not having to buy new phones every year just to keep a speedy phone is another benefit. I will probably reluctantly stay on iphones. But I will never ever own a macbook/imac/etc again. Huge waste of money. Compare a XPS to a macbook pro. XPS is about 3-500 dollars cheaper spec for spec. Then add in the longevity of windows 10 as an OS. I paid 1299 for this 7720 in 2007. the macbook was 1599. I think. Just look at the extra value out of the acer.

Maybe the wrong distro? I find Linux Mint a delight to use. Haven't missed Windows (nor OS X) yet. I'm not sure of your exact vintage, but is it the kind that you can install bootcamp and natively run Windows? Perhaps Windows 10 would run?
Regardless, if the laptop still runs, Linux (or Windows) still beats the only other option having an OS which Apple decided to not allow upgrades on that laptop oh so many years ago.

Yeah. I tried mint and elementary. Nither was as good as windows 10. Nah, I’m just going to unload the laptop. It has a 2tb drive in it. Must be worth 100 bucks or so....plus the HDMI connector.

El Capitan is the newest version officially supported on the 2007, and I believe it stops at there due CPU limits, not something apple can really fix eh? Why should they continue to support a 13 year old machine for more than 8 years, no one else does? However, you can fix your crappy experience with it by buying a 120GB SSD for cheap, should speed it up again, my 2009 MB is sluggish on a HDD with Mojave, but with a SSD it makes for a fine web machine.
Value is debatable, look how seemless the OS is with the phones, the tablets, the entire ecosystem, look at the lifespan of their products (2012 MBP being supported 8 years later, 2008 and between unofficially still working fine). If you want to talk price to performance, its a easy contest in favor of anything that isn't a apple product -
See. The key word is unofficially. I don't want to jump through hoops etc. Just like android phones. They get 2 maybe three updates. The you have to root, mess around etc. And no El Capitan is not supported on my 2007. MacOS must be a tank of a piece of software if it has CPU constraints since my 2007 acer runs win 10 1909 perfectly. I find macOS no nore seamless than windows 10 now with the advent of a few peices of software. I get iMessage on my windows devices using dell mobile connect, all others things connect, and transfer between my pc and iPhone via office 365 instantly. Plus I saved thousands of dollars buying windows based system over overpriced over hyped Macs. I bought 2 Macs in my lifetime and will not buy anymore. The value is not there as it is claimed to be. If I had to buy a Mac instead of my current dell 2 in 1 I would only have another year or two and then I would have to toss it because apple would not support it anymore.

You're acting like the hoops are massive and significant while also not understanding the hardware limitations that can't be fixed simply through software updates
-
You are acting like everyone don't care about jumping through hoops to get a semi supported os on their older machine. Meanwhile if they owned a same year windows decvice there is no limitation. They can just install 10 and carry on doing things on their computer. Like I said. Both my acer and Macbook are from 2007, both made in Nov. My acer is running the very latest version of windows 10 legally with no hoop, loops or otherwise. Even messing around with the 2007 Macbook there is no fully supported os available, jumping around apples " restrictions" cause other issues like non supported drivers etc. I have no such issues now besides one for my slot drive. Which is never used anyways. Try again.
-
Mastermind5200 Notebook Virtuoso
You're acting like W10 on a 2007 Acer is officially supported when it's clearly not, the issue with it isn't support, its that the CPU itself physically doesn't support the instruction sets needed for a newer version of MacOS, if you were to even talk about support it would be in the macbook's favor hands down.
-
Ha ha. OK, I was having a reasonable conversation with you but you just jumped into Kool aid land. I'm out. You obviously are just a fan boy. I have the two computers on my desk right now. I know which one is supported and which one is a paper weight, I know you cannot process this information since you clearly think apple is the be all end all.

Not three months after I formatted to new, it's full of "other' again. to the tune of 14gb in a 16gb ipad. That is ridiculous that apple can perform simple clean ups in iOS to keep this folder of temporary junk in check. The user cannot delete it, or reduce it. He is getting a new samsung android tablet next time. My cheap samsung tab a has been running for over a year with big gps maps, etc running on it with no issues at all. He watches a few youtube videos (not saving them) and plays a game or two and it fills up in a couple of months. Can't wait to flush the apple down the toilet.

It's awesome, the wife is even on board, the only person who was totally against moving from apple. She's even fed up with the garbage from apple now. Sold her apple watch, and we are moving to wearOS and other brand watches. Apple is done here.
jclausius and Starlight5 like this. -
No, Google still hasn't made a YouTube Music app for their wearable platform since killing Google Play Music back in October, but they have for the Apple Watch. And no, there's no Spotify client for the OS either, but you can sideload a Spotify Lite mod with a clunky UI, called Spotify MOL. Regarding Google Fit, it's very basic and offers no data portability. You can upload data to Google Fit from other apps, but not the other way around. There's no support for external sensors either. I don't think Google really gets the fitness scene.
As for hardware, my Fossil Sport received its last update one year following its release, and that's despite it being the first watch on the Snapdragon Wear 3100 platform. Towards the end of its first year, it also had to be RMA'd because its battery died, with no service centre in Europe to fix it. The watch was shipped back in a heavily scratched condition. GPS lock is slow and flick-to-wake is a lot worse than on an Apple Watch. Maybe other OEMs are better. I hear Suunto have done fairly well pushing updates to their Suunto 7. Casio also applied some interesting software tweaks to their GSW-H1000, but it's way overpriced at $699 and doesn't come with a Snapdragon Wear 4100 SoC, meaning it's unlikely to get updated to Android 11-based Wear OS.
Frankly, the Apple Watch is the least flawed smartwatch out there. Too bad it's exclusive to iPhone users, unless you're really into fitness, in which case a fitness tracker will be better anyhow. I guess the Garmin Venu 2 gets the job done if you want the looks of a smartwatch, though it doesn't have the elaborate feature set or battery life of a Forerunner or a Fenix.
Edit: What do you know? My long dormant watch received an update today, taking the Android security patch level from "1 April 2020" to "1 January 2021". It's still stuck on system version H MR1 though.Last edited: May 16, 2021 -
