why does this thread still exist?
sure MS is having some commercial, but what's the big deal anyways? apple had and still been bashing windows and PC forever yet no one bothered to care?
watch it, like it or hate it, but enjoy it.
or i should say why am i not seeing a 1000000page discussion on all the MS bashing apple commercials here?

When they were new, there were long threads about them here. For example: http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=120601
EDIT: Oh, I forgot about Apple's recent ads touting their computers' "greenness" (non-degrading batteries, etc.). I guess they just haven't inspired too much controversy. -
guys, the only problem I have with that ad is their lie...but I partly agree with the meaning-who wouldn't like lower prices on macs?I wonder-if that happens, what will M$ have in their next ad?

I've got vista on an AMD san diego core. You look at laptops these day. even on battery with the CPU throttled 50%, it will run a broswer, Word, Outlook, and Excel all at the same time.

actually its not as much of an anomaly, I still support businesses with P3/NT units in operation after 12 years and there are MANY secondary home computers for kids and e-mail/browsing spanning the P2 - early P4 range. Dont have any statistics but by personal experience Id say there are still about 15-20% of dinosaurs still being used on occasion or dug out of the closet for Old software and games

All my friends have 1 old beige towers that still runs fine for downloading movies. They look like s*it but its still chugging along.
Especially when most of the average americans only use their desktops/laptops to browse the net or just check an email, nothing demanding it can certainly easily last 10+ years. -

Its not like you can't find PC's that sell in those price ranges from most premium brands so its not a lack of competition forcing people to choose Apple.
Maybe its the quality, or design, or reliability, or support (my reasons) or maybe its no rational reason at all - maybe its the Steve Jobs reality distortion field ;-)
You can judge my source for yourself: http://blogs.eweek.com/applewatch/content/channel/macs_defy_windows-gravity.html -
I still have an 800 MHz PIII computer running Debian Linux to function as a print server in a closet. Old computers still have uses if you can find one for it.
Both Microsoft and Apple ads have partial lies and half-truths. That is the goal of marketing: lie as much as possible without flat-out lying. -

I remember seeing this report. I thought it misrepresented the market. This is retail sales. Like Best buy, Circuit city, Fry's and of course, Apple store. It leaves out online direct sales, like through Dell, HP, and Lenevo's websites.
This is a brick and mortar retail sales report, which like I said earlier, is misrepresentative of the market. For one, the largest consumer of computers are medium and large businesses, which do not pull up to a Best Buy and order 100 desktops. -
ROFL guys, have you seen the new ad?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4VIZA0ZwY5k -
Yup they are definitely work with HP on this one.
-
-
and with last one too
anyway, this one is even worse then the other-they are like drawing peoples attention to apple...now anyone who goes to buy a notebook will check apples just_in_case,to see if they are as sexy as ad mentioned. -
-
I'm waiting to see what the next ad says about Mac's. -

awesome commercial that looked like a great HP. love the color.

I like the ad. +1 to Microsoft from me. And Microsoft should favour HP, since they are most likely Microsoft's biggest customer when it comes to the Windows operating system.
-
-
He forgot to mention he also likes really cheap looking plasticky laptops with milky displays and poor technical support.
You can be pretty sure that if someone says twice that they are technically savvy then they probably aren't.
Microsoft is really shooting themselves in the foot with these lame ads. Sounds like Ballmers ego is involved since Apple is not a threat to Microsoft. They better hope Apple doesn't decide to respond but then again why should Apple? Microsoft is giving them plenty of free advertising.
-
Well at least they actually show this one looking at a Mac.
I still find it funny that they are touting this as real instead of staged and then end the commercial with the "I'm a PC" line. -
Nice triple post, now go read the forum rules.

What some of the posters here fail to realize is this ad is not targeted towards "elite" Mac users. These ads are targeted towards people who do not know much about computers but only know about Macs from their misleading commercials. Microsoft is trying to win these "non-techies" over to Windows instead of Apple. These people do not care about the inherent "superiority" of Apple hardware and OSX, if it even exists. They just want something that works and for cheap, something Apple does not have on the market.

I thought the second ad was not bad. Obviously I don't agree with it
, but I didn't think it was a bad ad. It does puzzle me that Microsoft is marketing on behalf of its hardware manufacturers, making no statement about Windows or Microsoft Office, with the only real appearance being a Windows logo. I don't think Microsoft should be marketing for other manufacturers (and so far its all HP) when there is no demonstration of Windows or any Microsoft software.
And there's too much praise for Macs in a commercial meant to target Apple. So far, Apple's been praised cool and sexy
. As much as they are trying to portray the "its awesome but out of my price range" kind of ad, I think it is more effective in large investments like a car, rather than a notebook where the price difference is a few hundred dollars. Of course, that is still a good amount of money, but many buyers will consider it a "small luxury" - normally, when they can't afford a nice house, they'll spend a bit more to get a nice car - since today they can't afford a nice car, they'll spend a bit more to get a nice notebook.
I read this comment on another website: "Well, what else could they do an ad on, "Windows Seven, we didn't screw up this time"?" -
how come 2 people do an ad and both choose an hp?Is it a microsoft ad or an hp ad???

Macs are "all about aesthetics" ???
Can MS be sued for this crap ?
Also, does anyone knwo why MS is running these ads ? How much revenue is apple taking away from MS ? -
It doesn't factor in costs for antivirus and overall software that comes with the Mac, and the fact that tons of crapware comes on the unit, as well as various other un-needed things, so it's not an entirely straight forward ad. You're not gonna get a functional unit, in my opinion, for an out-the-door price like that.
Don't get me wrong. I own both, and I enjoy both. But a base-OS of a PC won't compare to the "base"-OS of a Mac. -
Its the age old quantity vs quality issue.
And for the majority of consumers they are going to always choose the item that offers "more" for less. Thats why discount places like walmart are such a success.
This is even more so when the consumer isn't well informed about the product they are buying. How are they supposed to make a good decision on quality when they don't know a cpu from a gpu and what a Mb or GHz is?
So they go for quantity, cause thats the only thing they can base the decision on.

This has probably be said already. But from what I can tell is the ads are targeting the average consumers that knows nothing about computers. So if they can sell the hardware because it sounds better they will sell a copy of windows.
-
average consumer buys notebook mostly by its look....

Average consumer = Dumb
How about that? -

Actually the comment was in reference to people who buy a computer based on looks, perhaps you should reread it. There was no reference to PC or Mac in the statement. Perhaps you are the one over reacting? -

who else think that this is a cheap move?
