Yeah, try calling again. Maybe the next customer support representative will be nicer.

I just ordered from Amazon which had the new OS at much less than Apple itself and there is no sales tax. I got the family pack for $10 cheaper than Apple's price and with free shipping but no sales tax.
-
My university (university of toronto) doesn't even sell Mac OS outside of the computer shop (which is just the educational discount). The Information Commons tells me that Apple is 'totally uncooperative' about dealing with them.
They sell Microsoft stuff at huge discounts but nothing Apple.
Just another reason why Apple is the new Microsoft! -
More seriously, I'm not sure Apple is in a position to be able to flood academia with their software like Microsoft can. I remember buying VB6 at my campus store for something like 75% off retail. Look at the pricing of MS Office for Students (3 licenses for something like $129). Microsoft has always been very aggressive with academic pricing at university stores. If they can get students to buy Microsoft at a young age, they will likely stick with it later in the professional workplace. Marketing 101. -

I swear, I know what's the next branding for future OS X releases, after the cats run out:
OS X S
OS X T
OS X E
OS X V
OS X E II
OS X J
OS X O
OS X B
OS X S II
I know I posted this before in another thread, but here it is anyways.

i just got a email from my school bookstore saying that they will be selling leopard for $69. if you guys go to a college or university, check your bookstore to see are they offering it at that price too.
-
69 dollars is an awesome price!
-
Has anybody preorder status changed to prepard for shipment. On the apple forum I thought I saw some people say theres has.
Mine is still at Not Shipped Yet. -
-
Hmm, quite a lot of people pre-ordering...tell us how it goes!
-
I pre-ordered, but it was only my school's $69 version, so I doubt I'd get it on the 26th like everyone else
Ah well, the sacrifices we make to save ~$50... -
I'm waiting a few months (well, more like until November/December) for it. One reason being to wait for possible bugs to clear out, but main reason being I'm out of cash as usual.

Has anybody ordered through MacOS-up-to-date program for $9.95?
I've ordered on Octber 16th for $9.95, no change on status since then, but it also shows "ships by:26th Oct." Why is that?
I bought my computer on october 13th, so I am eligible to get leopard for $9.95 but apple won't send it before 26th, this is just ridiculous. -
The up-to-date feature is just that - a courtesy promotion allowing you to keep your computer up to date from a date of purchase of a reasonably close time to the release of the OS - it's not a method for you to get a pre-release copy of the OS.
Apple opened Leopard up to pre-orders since it was highly anticipated and it wasn't a secret or anything. Normally, as with the case with iLife 08, the up-to-date program would be open only on the date of the actual release. -
If you order today you will GET IT BY 26th. Apple says it, not me!
A friend of mine at college who ordered today got a delivery date on 26th october!
But I ordered it on 16th October, but not able to get it like other peopler on 26th! Is this fair?? -
I'll repeat it:
Normally Apple wouldn't even have opened up the up-to-date promotion until the day of the release, in which case you wouldn't even be able to have it shipped by the 26th, much less receive it by then.
This is a courtesy from Apple to allow you to get an up-to-date version of the OS for nothing more than the cost of shipping. They were under no obligation to do this for anyone. If you buy something old and it's updated after you bought it and used it, do you expect the right to get the new one for free? Of course not.
Notice that Apple's advertisement for pre-orders of Leopard to be delivered by 10/26 are targeted only at the retail licenses. There is no such language on the up-to-date website to mislead you.
So, even assuming that your shipment information is accurate and that you'll get it later, I'm not seeing where this isn't "fair" to you.
On the other hand, it is fair to those customers who are actually paying for the OS separately to have first priority. Do you think it's "fair" to them that someone who's getting the software for free would have equal priority to them at a time when you know that shipping will be overloaded? -
My brand new Leopard should be here on Friday. My MacBook Pro will be happy!
-
Has anybody heard anything about that if you order a Mac after the 16th they will throw in leapord eithier pre installed or just a disk in the box. I have had 2 apple people tell that this is true, and 2 tell me is was false. LOL
-
16th of october? Probably you'll get the disc in the box...not like there's a huge difference.
-
You won't even get a box, just a CD and envelope.

I wonder why my Macbook is taking so long to get here, it has shipped for like 5 days already and it wont be here until the 26th. I bought the faster shipping also. Maybe they are holding off on me until the 26th because they don't want people to have leapord till then and actually have it in the box. I don't no but it sure sucks having everything else shipped off and getting to my house and having a mighty mouse and accessary's I cant use yet.
There is away to check if you can help me out if you just bought a macbook, does anybody know how much there shipment weighed with just the Macbook. Mine weighs 4.10kg. I assume that if they put leapord in the box it would weigh more. -
