Hmmm... how should I transfer my photos/songs/projects from my pc and iMac to my baby? Do I need a special cable? ty.
-
you can use lan or wifi
-
You know what, I have to say I think you made the right choice under your circumstances.
And to be honest, the screen on the unibody Macbooks aren't THAT bad. I was sitting behind a girl with one and was staring at her screen the whole time and it did not seem to be washed out or whatever like many here claim.
If I didn't feel 13" was small, I would have gotten the macbook instead.
Congrats Thomass.
To transfer files, I would suggest using any external USB hard drive. Remember though, that the hard drive needs to be in the MS DOS (FAT) format for both PC and MAC to recognize it. -
Hmm... what you mean by MS DOS (FAT) format??
-
I'm not even really sure what it means. All I know is that the hard drive needs to be formatted this way so that it can be recognized by both PC and Mac.
Some drives are NTFS and those cannot be read by Mac I believe. Before you use the hard drive, you can plug it into the mac and use Disc Utility to format it to MS DOS format.
Perhaps someone more knowledgable could help out. -
install ntfc 3g and you are set!

You guys can't imagine how much I appreciate my new machine...! I hope the long-term experience will be as good as the ''first impression''. 13 inch isn't too small, after comparing with 15'' I'd say it's perfect for my use. Connecting it to my setup (Screen, Keyboard, Mouse) makes the office working experience awesome and increased my productivity imho. Everything is working more than great for now. I'm really happy with my decision and hope this feeling's gonna last long. Peace out! I'll try to find a camera to take a couple of pictures for you guys.
-
I just got my macbook too. About the same time as Thom first posted this. Now I am using the macbook way often than using my desktop with a 23" monitor
-
I had the same feeling when I first got my Macbook, and it wasn't like any other computer I got before. The experience will last as long as the machine lasts.
I told you that the 13 inch would be perfect for you.
Just kidding... I'm glad it all worked out for you! And yes, pictures would be great!

I know how it is to get a computer that you really like and boosts your productivity. It was the same with me when I got my dell precision M90 three years ago. And that feeling is still here today after three years
Do take some pics -
Hi guys, I had time to take a couple of pictures, so here is the setup i presently have until next year in my future appartment (i'll prolly get a real desk and computer chair until then). It's not really clean, there are a couple of things on my desk and the camera wasn't a high-tech one but they aren't that bad just to give you an idea. There is a lot of wires though but I don't really care... Oh and I think i'm due to clean my screen... Anyway... PEACE!
-
so you like it?
-
Yeah! Definitely and I got the three parts (screen, kb and mice) for like 10$...! The working experience on it is awesome. I definitely did not need a 200-300 $ screen or a 1000$ cinema display. and it's all mac, except the logitech mouse. I'm pleased with my stuff!!

How did you score a screen for $10 ??

Congrats, Thom. I took delivery of my unibody 17" MBP yesterday. I'm loving everything about it. I fought long and hard on whether to get it to replace my current 2.3GHz model, but I figured why not. I'll be giving my old 17 to my daughter (since I cant seem to keep her off my iMac). The screen on the unibody is AMAZING. I thought the screen on my old model was awesome, but in the pic below side by side, both are on full brightness, and the clarity of the unibody is just amazing.

@ Thom: Congrats!
That's a sweet setup, and deal for that matter of $10.
I'm glad you like it, and thanks for the pictures!
@Diggy: Congrats! That looks awesome, and thanks for the pics!
-
Haha TY!
Good job with your setup Diggy, I'm not at that level yet I guess.. hehe! -
gee whiz...that 17 is nice. I'm going to be ordering it in a month or so, once I get some rent money from my tennants lol.
-
-
congrats diggy! btw,you old 17" has a matte screen,right?
-
-
wow then!new screen is awesome, really awesome!

I faced the first downside of my new machine yesterday, I went to work with it at my school's library, with intense lighting from the ceiling and large windows all around the place and it was a pretty sunny day. I had to fight with an important glare to be able to see well. I tried to work with the luminosity but nothing seemed to work it out. Do you guys have any idea of how i could get a better viewing quality in highly lighted rooms?
Peace -

It's a disaster that Apple doesn't even offer a matte screen, the bright shiny screen is a total disaster, Dell started this fashion, now Apple and everyone else takes after.
What is so good with these shiny screens? is it to save costs? -

not sure if those will fit the unibodys or not. You can always buy a 19" screen and mod it to fit your unibody yourself. -
-
whats good about them is they look awesome... sure there are a few drawbacks... but they still look better overall.... id go with the glossy by choice anyways -
In the pictures above you can clearly see that the previous generation look so much better and the footprint is much smaller, the new is actually larger and bulkier footprint.
Also you have a nasty thick black border around the screen, why so thick? -
-

-
Everybody has their personal preferences though, and they deserve respect for them too.
-
-
I wonder how horrible my screen will be if I put my macbook black between these 2 beauties.
Nice pics -
How can anybody say that the unibody is uglier than last gen?
Still hesitating...
