I apologize for not being able to give you a comparison thread between the Vaio Z & the MacBook. The reason is that I only have the MacBook now as stated in my sig. :(

Nice set up here! How do you connect the monitor to your laptop? How much did you pay for that cable?

Thanks Luke1708! All you need is a Mini-Displayport > VGA or Mini-Displayport > DVI, depending on your type of connection to the monitor. The blue cable you see in the picture is a VGA cable, so I need a Mini-Displayport > VGA cable, which I have.

And you're set! ;) And it's $29, but you could get it on eBay for much cheaper. ;)

I love looking at the photos you take of your setups. :) You're very good with those photos. :) Sometimes, I just wish I can afford a good camera & have great photography skills like you have because my current camera & my photo taking skills just s*** big time.

Thank you for the compliment. You're making me blush! It's funny because I wish I were as good a photographer as so, so many other people either on the boards or in "real life." In any case, I will do my best to get some pictures up ASAP! :)

I'll probably post up my setup sometime but I just wanted to offer some advice as I see many people connecting to external consoles via laptop/consoles.

Do not connect to your monitors through VGA, you are severely crippling the capabilities of both your machine and LCD. Only connect to your monitor via HDMI/DVI/Displayport. If you bought a nice LCD you might as well take advantage of it.

So throw away your vga cable, in fact, burn it, its terrible!

I love my Mac mini. It looks lovely hooked up to a 24" Cinema Display, and provides plenty of power to be a media center computer. Mine is currently hooked up to my HDTV as a media center. Before my Mac mini, I had a PC mini doing the same work!

miniPCs are ideal for hiding away or save the precious space in your house. You don't want to bring your workstation case into your bedroom then put it beside your LCD TV, do you ? and how about the car...?

Yep, it's a Seagate 500GB 2.5" drive. Seems to work great!

Thanks! The Backpack is so awesome. It's a really solid piece, works with any Apple display (LED or otherwise), and keeps my portable drive nice and safe and cool. I'm a big fan of tidy setups, so this works for me.
