I apologize for not being able to give you a comparison thread between the Vaio Z & the MacBook. The reason is that I only have the MacBook now as stated in my sig.

This is mine from about a month or two ago, as now I have a new 22 inch ASUS 1080p monitor in there now.
-
Nice set up here! How do you connect the monitor to your laptop? How much did you pay for that cable?
-
Thanks Luke1708! All you need is a Mini-Displayport > VGA or Mini-Displayport > DVI, depending on your type of connection to the monitor. The blue cable you see in the picture is a VGA cable, so I need a Mini-Displayport > VGA cable, which I have.
http://store.apple.com/us/product/MB572Z/A?mco=MzE2OTkyNw
And you're set!
And it's $29, but you could get it on eBay for much cheaper.
-
Thanks! i will get one of these to connect it to projectors when i do my presentations!!!! the ones at uni use serial port.
-
No problem Luke! Glad I could help!

Wow this thread still lives. I should stop being lazy and update my setup pictures!
-
I'm looking forward to your updated photos.
-
Haha. I'm soooo lazy, though.
-
No problems. I can wait. Take & post the pictures when you've time.
I love looking at the photos you take of your setups.
You're very good with those photos.
Sometimes, I just wish I can afford a good camera & have great photography skills like you have because my current camera & my photo taking skills just s*** big time.
-
Thank you for the compliment. You're making me blush! It's funny because I wish I were as good a photographer as so, so many other people either on the boards or in "real life." In any case, I will do my best to get some pictures up ASAP!
-
Here is mine!
-
Dude. Very clean. Wish my desk were that clean right now!
-
We are still waiting for pics Will!
-
Hah. They'll come, I promise.
-
Kicked my parents out of the study area
Actually they went on vacation for the summer -.-" -
I moved my desk downstairs and turned my office in to a spare bedroom. Need to post a pic of the new area - will do that this evening
-
Great setup man! what do you have there(not counting mbp
)?
-
I'll probably post up my setup sometime but I just wanted to offer some advice as I see many people connecting to external consoles via laptop/consoles.
Do not connect to your monitors through VGA, you are severely crippling the capabilities of both your machine and LCD. Only connect to your monitor via HDMI/DVI/Displayport. If you bought a nice LCD you might as well take advantage of it.
So throw away your vga cable, in fact, burn it, its terrible! -
-
I totally agree.
I'm also patiently looking forward to the photos.
-
PC Desktop. HP LP3065 and Dell 2007FP LCD. A Magnavox "HDTV". Some old Pioneer receiver and Polk Monitor 5Bs I dug out of the closet. 2 pairs of AudioTechicas.
-
I really envy you guys for having such awesome setups, unlike mine, which just suck big time.
Anyway, hope you guys will kindly take pics of your awesome setups & keep posting in this thread.
Even though I don't have such wonderful setups, I still love to look at what has been posted here & drool over them, like they're mine.
-
I know it's setup, but I recently took pics of my whole room so I'd thought it'd share ;D -
wow man,such a nice room!
-
No more money for the bed?
(Joking)
Nice desk anyway! -
I don't have the guts to post my setup, because my table is a mess with a gazillion meters of cables everywhere. Oh well, I might when I decide to get a new Mac or something.
-
Actually,I have read a study saying that messy/geeky setups belong to people who work harder
-
Not sure though
-
People who work harder, or people who are just lazy. I think I fit in both categories, so you can imagine how messy my desk is
-

My desk yesterday, a little bit unorganized.
I have just received some product samples from a local PC maker. That's why my desk is so messy. -
whats that black box near the monitor(one with vista login screen)?
-
LOL!
At least you fit in both categories.
I am embarrassed to admit that I just fit in the "people who are just lazy" category.

It's a mini PC, housing C2D E8400 / 2GB SODIMM DDR2 / X4500HD / 320GB HDD inside.
-
What's the point of a mini PC ?
-
What's the point of a mini Mac, or.. you know.. a Mac mini?
I love my Mac mini. I can see someone loving a PC mini too! -
Yeah well what's the point of a mac mini too ? I just don't get.. Do you buy it for portability or something?
-
I love my Mac mini. It looks lovely hooked up to a 24" Cinema Display, and provides plenty of power to be a media center computer. Mine is currently hooked up to my HDTV as a media center. Before my Mac mini, I had a PC mini doing the same work!
-
Media center? Whoa that's sounds cool.
Wait I've got a 47 inch plasma HDTV and I've ordered a macbook pro 15 inch, is there any way i could hook them up?
Oh, and What's your set up? -
yes sure, buy a display port to HDMI converter. It should be cheap, around $20.
-
its a bit cheaper on the education store £3 cheaper in uk.
-
$11ish at monoprice ftw.

miniPCs are ideal for hiding away or save the precious space in your house. You don't want to bring your workstation case into your bedroom then put it beside your LCD TV, do you ? and how about the car...?
-
Well, this thread is back from the dead! Sorry for being so LAME about getting pictures, but my setup isn't that exiting, though I did add a Backpack to my Apple display, which I love! I took a few crappy pictures, but you get the idea.
http://www.twelvesouth.com/products/backpack/ -
Nice!!!Is that your portable hard drive? it's pleasing to the eyes...
-
Cool. WilliamG, those are great photos IMHO.
Thanks for sharing info about the BackPack product.
I've not previously seen or heard about it.
-
Yep, it's a Seagate 500GB 2.5" drive. Seems to work great!
Thanks! The Backpack is so awesome. It's a really solid piece, works with any Apple display (LED or otherwise), and keeps my portable drive nice and safe and cool. I'm a big fan of tidy setups, so this works for me. -
