I never ever send my notebook away with my HDD. There is a clear warning that if you RMA, to solve the problem Asus will wipe your drive and reinstall the bloat and all.
But I was told on my unit they created a mirror image and installed on mine as they did with another unit to compare.

so are they gunna release a vbios that works with 211?

I just came across this thread after someone referred me to look for "GSOD threads" in another posting I made...complaining about promptly returning my Asus notebook to Amazon:
http://forum.notebookreview.com/asu...asus-g73jh-owners-lounge-572.html#post6656845
To not repeat myself, here was my complaint:
Amazon.com: Brian S Swiger's review of ASUS Republic of Gamers G73JH-A1 17-Inch G...
I wish I had found this thread though...and NEVER thought to flash the BIOS of the video card. I've NEVER had to do that...in any build I've done of a custom gaming PC over the years. I usually build my own...and figured I COULD NOT with a laptop. I guess, to me, a custom video BIOS should be for overclocking, NOT stability.
I did return the Asus laptop and am looking to build a laptop based on a Clevo 870cu. Throw in a i7 740QM, 120GB G Skill Phoenix Pro, 8GB of corsair memory and it should be good to go...all from NewEgg (except the base laptop).
Clevo W870CU Notebook Computer, ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5870 1GB Video Card
Still, glad folks are able to get this laptop up and running well. It's a great design (look and feel-wise) and the price for the components was second-to-none. -
I think they should rather be focusing why MSI vbios works for every unit and their's does not. That might get them much nearer to the *real* 100% solution and not just another "tweaked" vbios that helps only to a miniscule degree.
Many people here are also posting their "finding" that overclocking GPU with the beta vbios makes their rigs stable. Obviously they don't know that oc'ing made G73 mostly stable for common gaming before the beta vbios as well. -
As much as everyone would like to offer their two cents, its probably best to just wait and let Gary do his thing. The man's got his work cut out for him but he's been good thus far. -
dont forget to press f9 in the logo to recover your os to manufacture defaults
are you supposed to do this after a bios reflash???? -
mm I udpate bios and vbios without recover with f9
-
Awh, how do I get me one of THEM?!

some youtube gsod action
YouTube - Asus G73JH Crash VSOD ATi 5870m Vertical Stripes of Death
edit - youtube is being stupid, I wanted to link a comment to this thread and a few others but I gets error -
Hello , I've been lurking this for a few days now. My G73JH never had any *SOD but started doing so since I updated my old ATI stock driver to the 10.8. At first, when I updated, I noticed a reasonable increase in my FPSs during Crysis and Metro 2033 and as soon as I started playing these damn GSOD made their appearance.
I downgraded my Radeon driver back to the one that came in the DVD and I've been playing without any problems, besides the lower performance.
Sorry about my english, but I wanted to post this so I could help you guys with information. -
-
UPDATE: I would like people here to please respond here with the following information:
1) Do you GSOD? (Yes/No)
2) What is your GPU's Part Number? (Can be found by opening the access lid on the bottom, looks like 60-NY8VG1000-Cxx) -
1) Yes
2 ) 60-ny8vg1000-c12
*updated the correct letters and numbers. Thanks Neno for pointing that out -
-
2)60-NY8VG1000-C13
I go to ask asusxperts users with a g73 that show their GPU´s parts number Then I'll post it here -
1) Do you GSOD? (Yes/No) YES (not counting default drivers)
2) What is your GPU's Part Number? 60-NY8VG1000-C12
What are you thinking up Chastity? -
1) Do you GSOD? (Yes/No) No GSODs
2) What is your GPU's Part Number? 60-NY8VG1000-C02
(I'm waiting to see if there are C02 GPUs that GSOD. This is exciting)
-
1) Do you GSOD? (Yes/No) Yes GSODs

Ambient 26C. -
Damn it Chas, I had the thing in bits a couple of hours before you posted this but ofcourse I did not write down this number. Was repasting and putting in the 940XM. Anyway, while we are at it. Because I intent to run the 940XM overclocked I decided to go for the best TIM I could get and according to several tests I have read I decided I get some Coollaboratory Liquid Pro. I could write a few pages about my experience but I havent got the time for that at the mo. All I'll say now is that I spend quite some time preparing the surfaces of both heatsinks. They were a mess to be honest.
Shame on you Asus and without a doubt this is a major cause of GSOD's and RMA's.
This Liquid Pro is weird stuff but I must say that it is pretty easy to apply. You only need a tiny drop because it spreads like nobody's business. Like a liquid really, so a tiny drop moistens the whole area no problem. I liked that bit. And after doing some tests I like it even more.
Before repasting running the Hairy donut test my GPU would level out at 101 degrees. After repasting it levels out at 82 degrees.
But what really impresses me is that I can run the 940XM with all 4 cores running at 3.33 GHz and the CPU levels out at about 76 degrees. That's pretty damn good I think.
I thought I would share my experience with all of you people.
Anyway Chas, to answer your questions:
1) Do you GSOD? No I dont because I am running the MSI BIOS
2) What is your GPU's Part Number? GPU No: 60-NY8VG1000-C14
I hope this helps you in your Quest
