    que?

I don't think ANYONE with a G51J has had the 0x124 BSOD while playing ANY game since the Gentech BIOS release 207.T10 in mid January. Which is as close to TOTALLY FIXED as you can get.

There's an official ASUS 208 BIOS which I haven't upgraded to yet, but haven't needed to since no problems :D

Hello Guys, I just bought this Asus G51J 2 weeks ago, and I have the same BSOD problem.

I've downloaded the 207.T10, and restart my system then go to the DOS mode, when I select the BIOS and confirm to install it, it says something like this "This BIOS update version 'G60' is different with your version, do you still want to update it?"

Is that because the name file of the updated BIOS is 'G60J207.T10' , started with 'G60J', but my laptop is 'G51J'

I just trusted what u guys said here, then I pressed 'YES'

After It finished loading, my laptop shut down by itslef, then I press the power button, the light on my keyboard are on, but not with my screen (and sound), the windows doesn;t even started at all.

I brought this ty laptop to ASUS, then wait for 4 days, before they said it is 'fixed' and I can collect it, when I asked "Have you update it with the latest BIOS?"
He replied "No, the most stable BIOS version for you is 204, I'm sure there wont be any problem anymore"
I bring my laptop back at home, turn on COD2:Warfare multiplayer, after 5 minutes...that FREAKING ANNOYING BLUESCREEN APPEARS AGAIN!!

Any suggestion of how to update the BIOS correctly??
Should I just renamed the file name of 207 BIOS?
Step by step instruction will be so helpful for me...

^^ It helps to know what laptop you bought in the first place ;)
There is sht load g51 out there now and they have different components.
This topic is for g51j-a1 only, and it has g60 motherboard.
Flashing this bios to other g51 model creates paperweight from them.

I just bought my G51JX-A1 about 2 weeks ago, there are major BSOD problems with it?

If I can return it, should I?

Topic title should be changed to : G51J-A1
Everyone other model will be bricked by ppl who lazy to read, and not fully understand what they try to do.

Nothing in this topic for other models .. search there are separate topics for those.
Not replying to any question posts from ppl who lazy to do search and read previous replies to those same questions.

I forget to tell that the Asus guy told me that they've changed my motherboard.

Then I use dxdiag, and found out these

    System Model: G60JX
    BIOS: BIOS Date: 06/15/09 18:50:05 Ver: 08.00.10
    Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i7 CPU Q 720 @ 1.60GHz (8 CPUs), ~1.6GHz

Do you guys think I can update it with 'G60J207.T10' BIOS update now?

No, you have a JX unit, this fix is ONLY for the G51J-A1 model. There should be a fix for BSOD for the G51JX model, look for their thread.

Im looking to purchase a G51jx-x1 from newegg, but i see there is some BSOD issues. Is this severe? And is there a fix from it directly from Asus? Or are they working on it? And is it confirmed that they are working on it?

Hello, guys! I've read a big part of the first thread and a lot of this one and even though there are a lot of info on BIOS update on Google, I'm not so cool about it yet. So I registered here just to ask for a little help doing this. Sorry if this is off-topic but I really need help with this.
I've got this notebook as a birthday gift from my aunt and still don't know everything about it yet. But I do know I get a lot of BSOD while playing some games (Fallout 3, Tom Clancy´s H.A.W.X., etc.). I checked the bottom panel and found that it is a G51J-A1 with a G60J mobo, so Gentech´s BIOS should work, but since I've never updated a BIOS before I'm kinda scared of doing something wrong and turning this nice computer into a beautiful paperweight. So can anyone help a newbie do this?

Get the bios file (either 207 or 208, both fix the blue screens), unrar it, reboot and go into the bios setup, and flash from there (you need to know what directory the bios file is in).

Make sure the battery is in and the a/c adapter is as well.

The wiki about the BSOD is very useful, but i didn't found an information: my model is G51J-IX097V. Is the bios update (genTech or 208 form asus) safe for my model? I read about G51J-IX098V in that topic. Where I could find a model list for the bios update? Do you need some additional infos in order to help me, like a DXDIAG copy-paste of the Bios infos?
    thanks in advance!

1: download the BIOS and unzip the file into a folder.
2: Open Asus WInFlash program and browse the BIOS file
3: Flash the BIOS and reboot the computer.

That's all you need to do.

Yesterday night I updated my G51J with the GenTech bios. I had some trouble with the "extract" function of Winrar due to an automatic change of the extension from .T10 to .10 . I solved that issue with a drag-drop from the explorer window of Winrar to the desktop.
I updated my machine with the native WinFlash program (Asus Utility->WinFlash). Now, the final question: how can I see the actual version of the bios? Using DXDIAG it looks the same (207).
As soon as i run some veeeeery professional tests (like playing Left4Dead 2 that caused my one and only BSOD), i'll post my opionions.

Can i edit the BSOD wiki adding my model as a "safe to update" one? Should we add a section "Identify your mobo/bios/model"? It could be very useful and the whole procedure should become fool-proof

Thank you guys so VERY much! I followed your instructions and successfully updated my notebook's BIOS. I didn't have enough time to test it but I have played for two straight hours of Fallout 3 without any problem, so I think the BSOD problem is fixed. Thanks a lot!

download and install CPUz, it shows "Version" on the "Mainboard" tab.
204 = factory version (on mine anyway)
207 (from Asus site) = BSODs STILL THERE
207.T10 (from wherever it may be) = fixed
208 (available on Asus support I think) = fixed... as far as I know

I've not updated since 207.t10, it works, so it don't need fixing :)

Maybe its just me, but both the 207.t10 and 208 bios dont fix the problem for me. I dont get BSODs during game play, but i do get them when on word or firefox; its usually random. Any idea why?

Is the G51JX-A1 good? Are there still problems with some games?

Or should I buy the G73JH (the best buy version)?

If portability is not an issue, the G73 will be a lot more powerful for games.

The JX is a good computer as well, but you trade GPU performance for a minor size decrease. The JX's BSOD issues apparently have not been completely solved, but should be with time if the G51J is any indication.

Your basically looking at 5870m vs GTX260m. 5870m is a beast, and the GTX260m is still pretty good. In a lot of fps games the 260m will feel a bit choppy, especially when you apply AA in the graphics settings. 5870 will give much smoother game play in todays games at higher graphical settings. Definitely a trade off, though, because the G73 is a bit bulky. I think AW makes a 15" with a 5870? Not sure.

They do, but the upgrade will run you much more than a G73.

If you are the type to play games at max resolution, you should go with the G73.

The GTX 260m (my card) is very fast, and if you are ok playing at 1280 * 720 it will only choke with games like Crysis, or Metro 2033

Stop codes generally don't change much at all between Windows versions, only their causes. In this case it's a very general cause, I would make sure your drivers are up-to-date, especially your chipset drivers, run a chkdsk to make sure you have no corrupted files, and then run memtest86+ through a few passes. All standard stuff for very general and inconclusive errors like this.

If I remember correctly, the Copperhead software caused BSODS I think. People just install it by simple plug and play and steer away from the software.

That's almost definitely it. You don't need the razer drivers to use the mouse at full resolution, only to set profiles. You can change the profile with the button on the bottom once you've got it set up the way you like. Uninstall the razer drivers once you have it set to your liking.

Well, to be fair, the mouse works well and I have been using it since I bought it on launch. I never knew it caused BSODs until other users that installed the copperhead software started to have them. The problem itself lies with Razer themselves and their faulty drivers.

Hell, I didn't even knew Asus provided the software for that mouse haha :p I simply plugged it and have enjoyed it since.

    Hello everybody.

Please would someone verify this method for updating my bios to 207, because I am scared of bricking my notebook!!

    I have an Asus G51J

So, Reboot and press F4 at the Asus splash screen (I'm guessing this is the Republic of gamers screen) to enter EasyFlash

Select the drive I saved it it (I'm guessing it doesn't neccessarily have to be saved onto a USB or anything??)

Select the bios file G60J207.T10 <--- Is this definitely the right one??

Then wait for it to update.

    PLEEEEASE can someone confirm this?

    Thankyou!!

    Monkeybars

(By the way, I recieveing BSOD in Crysis, which is my reason for updating)

I scanned a bit though the thread but didn't see anything regarding it. Over the past two weeks I have received 3 BSOD where before I have received none at all. Its a bit worrying to me that I am suddenly getting these BSOD's. Bluescreen view is scanning the dump file and gives me the bug check code of 0x00000124 and caused by address hal.dll+12903.

Its the same BSOD error for all 3 dump files. Anyone have any info?

The 0x124 BSOD is the very original problem the machine had. Just update your BIOS and that should be gone.

Other cause of BSOD is the Razer Copperhead software, and one additional "issue" is the freeze/lock up caused by the creative sound drivers and sound audigy software.

Bios that fix BSOD is only for G51J. For the G51JX there is another thread and I don't think there is a fix yet.

Please, let me know your opinion for the final decision.

I was going to buy G60J to run Final Cut under Mac Os

I spent an hour reading this thread. Now I'm puzzled... I had thought Asus to be a client-frendly company.

BSDOS problem is fixed now, my respect to the community.

But whether I'm doomed to face throttling running Final Cut or HD movies on G60J?

    Any ideas....

Hello, I am here to say that the T10 fix works correctly!

I am an owner of the G51J with 3D.

    I have a question though:

Is the problem with the Creative Drivers solved? I wish to use my EAX 4.0 with this laptop but as far as I know it's only possible with these drivers! ( But they give random locks, especially with steam )

Yup, check the fixes in the g73 threads, same problem exists there. I think it's a realtek driver update that fixes it.

    Hi guys,

I am a complete novice at computers. I was wondering if someone could provide me a step by step tutorial on how to upgrade my bios to the fix version. I have tried using the asus update program that came with my machine, but it says there are no updates available. My machine is the G60J model. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Asus Live update only updates drivers no BIOS, for BIOS you need to go to:
    1: Click Start and programs.
    2: Asus Utility > WinFlash
3: Browse the BIOS file and click flash.

Thanks a lot for your help! I just have one more question. Is there a way to back up the current bios in case I mess up?
