Wait so your saying that the first time i did it the cpu went up because the gpu reduced its power consumption? And Asus said it was because of a faulty bios?
EDIT* So are you also saying the system cant run full speed on battery because the battery cant push the juice enough?
-
dam I'm at work at can't do anything about this!
could someone please confirm the new BIOS working on MW2 max settings for more than an hour! -
We will find out pretty soon tomorrow, patience.

Just finished 2hrs straight in mw2. Played every map on domination. There are still some hiccups on turbo mode but no bsod here. I will play some more later. -
Thank you so much for running the test ALLurGroceries and hope you won't get late for work tomorrow.
-
lol
after 3 months I'm pretty much out of it
Go Groceries, Go Groceries!
ok that just sounds weird
I hope our troubles are over! -

Thanks for PM'ing me... I had pretty much given up on this thread and was about to go to sleep for the day. Don't worry, I will get a good rest thanks to you. Even if it is a short one.
I just finished another 30 mins in MW2 multiplayer or however it was since my last post.
I mentioned there are some hiccups/stutters, some are HDD activity, but some are not... it is good enough it seems. It feels a bit smoother, and I am wondering if they upped the voltage somewhere.
Don't get too excited, but it looks good so far. We will know for sure soon enough...

Does using throttlestop helps, ALLur?
-
just played a full match of combat arms which usually gives me bsod at full setting.
no bsod!
hope i dont get the bsod tommorow too..
just hope..... -
Ah, sorry here's the throttlestop link
Taken from DELL XPS 1645 throttling thread -
Sorry, I can´t find the test anymore where they spoke to asus about ist. This test defines Your problem too...
One is with the other... some i7 systems run perfect if an external monitor is plugged in (no throttle -> I think it was the dell) others run better when battery is in and no psu is used... U can run full power with battery, but bios or mobo redist energy...
You had the significant thing that using battery caused Your power to be redistributed in other ways (less power to gpu or other stuff = better current for cpu)
That´s gonna bring a new gaming experience... 38 min of MW2 and then 1 hour reload and on You go ;-)
But You can get Yourself the 7200mah Battery for 200EUR (300USD)... this sound like some marketing gag doesn´t it... -
asus doesn't even let me keep my awesome post count for a day? boo.
if no one's reported a BSoD yet, then i think this could be it. now someone should make a throttling thread and maybe after 3 months they'll help us with that too
(i will if no one else does by evening, the results in the wiki are public domain; anyone can use them).
throttlestop will not alleviate a power issue, no matter the new BIOS.
85 mins seems kinda short. running bluetooth + 7 brightness + full kbd lights, i consistently get 1h40-2h on the train. -
Ok, I was planning to give back my G51J today the the shop and try to fight to get my money back, but the policy of the shop is that they firstly have to repair or replace it, then if the problem still exists, the have to give You money back (it's not in the terms of ASUS Warranty, but the law of my country). It is not easy to persue them to do it, and it takes a lot of time, but it is possible.
But now I don't know what to do
I'll try to test the new BIOS with CoD:WaW and MW2 and report. These 2 games were giving me BSOD every time.
Have someone tested CoD: WaW on the new bios?? Or MW2 in longer MP session? -
Don't alienware and dell users use that just to get a more stable playing experience / eliminating the stuttering?
-
Does anyone else get the error to update ThrottleStop, and then it still doesn't work?
-
Updated bios installed. COD4 running in multiplayer hosting a map for just me. Time to wait and see.. This has been a matter of when in the past not if. I'll report back on this. Thanks Gen Tech for passing on info.
-
thanks man for the help, will try with RE5 online and post back soon. (have to restore it back to win7
)
-
Oh wow, let's hope this does it. Nice work Gentech and Asus! WAY too early to say for sure-we'll need a couple of weeks, but still this sounds super promising
Also this makes me a lot more confident about the G51Jx! -
Can I install that bios on ASUS G60J?
-
I guess you can since it says originally in the bios name "G60J207"
-
Thanks for the info guys. Ill test it out as well.
Does it matter which nvidia driver n gear4hybrid im using. The gear for hybrid is acting stupid on my asus. The touchpad doesn't work that lets me change from entertainment to performance mode. How do I fix this.
I will be testing out Borderlands and GTA IV. Ill post my results after a few hours of gaming online with borderlands. I'll post the results for GTA IV after I re-install it. -
3 hrs hosting by myself. No BSOD, Not calling it dead, as I have had it make it this long before, but it is promising.
-
I really do not think the new BIOS has fixed the BSOD at least in borderlands. I am running the latest Nvidia drivers and the 207 bios and I managed to get 1 BSOD in borderlands since the BIOS update. I was running Power4gear in turbo mode, key back lite off and the screen at 80% brightness.
So far the only BSOD's i have experienced have been in Borderlands but they occur much less frequently than when I ran the system on pre-loaded drivers and BIOS 204. Hopefully with more testing we will find a solution. -
Out of curiosity in power settings advanced for hard disc what is the default timeout for this? Does the new bios change this? Also are there any new additional options people are seeing in the new bios or power options. Thanks.
-
The version of 207 that GenTech posted is different did you try this one? Also it has been noted that Borderlands sometimes bsod other manufacturers machines as well, are you playing cod or some of the other games that were bsoding?
-
I will give the BIOS that GenTech posted and will try borderlands and some other games when I get a chance and will let you know what I come up with.
As for games that I am playing lately that reported BSOD issues, I believe some have reported some with L4D2 and Dragon Age. Both of which I have not had a BSOD as of yet. I do not play cod but I figure if we can get Borderlands stable, then anything is possible
.
-
My friend has a Gateway desktop. When he first ran Borderlands, it would give him the BSOD. He replaced his RAM and it stopped completely. That was about 4 months ago or whenever Borderlands first came out. So no BSOD for him since. Maybe an idea?
-
Good point. The ram being bad, not seated correctly, or not being the right speed are all possible culprits. I just recently looked in my gateway and found that ram was not fully seated in the holding slots. I was experiencing the kernel power error discussed at the beginning of this thread. I did replace my 4850 with the galaxy gts 250 though and runs a lot cooler. I am not sure what one did it but went 7 hours on wow last night no shutdown yet. The kernel power in the event viewer is often such a vague pointer to what really happened, but before it started there was one event that said graphics card overheated. So who knows. Although off topic some of these points could shed light on other potential issues. Anyways hopefully the new bios is the fix.
-
my borderlands has been *far* more stable, no stuttering etc, since switcing to the experimental-207. i'd say its looking very promisin
-
Someone has already tried replacing the ram. It is stated in the wikia.
-
Ken's awesome for sticking with this. Just shows GenTech has excellent customer service.
-
Yeah, it's sure impressed me! I was starting to get a bit more comfortable with the idea of buying stuff there anyway...
-
Yeah not to mention the fact that he did this even though not everyone is his customer. yet!
Talk about generating loyalty! -
Hey guys. I was wondering how to change my windows 7 settings so it won't automitically reboot wehen it bsod. I just played borderlands without the 207 bios and it bsod within 40Mins. I jus decided to test it out with the old driver and then ill test it with the new. Im currently hosting a game online. Ill play 3 hours and post results.
-
The correct BIOS version for the new BIOS is 207.T10 not 207.
System Properties>Advance System Settings>Advanced tab> click Settings at Startup and Recovery> uncheck Automatically Restart box. -
thanks a lot GenTechPC. i just played an hour and no bsod.
i will try it now for about 2-3 hours. -
Yes, I was up in the air between GenTech and XoticPC for my next buy but this seals the deal. It's great to know somebody who still cares after the sale... and increasingly rare these days, unfortunately.
-
Score another future customer for gentech right here. Very impressed with their presence on these forums for sure.
-
I couldn't agree more. Seriously this is an amazing company and person to deal with, and yes I'm speaking from experience.
-
thanks man for the quick reply, I needed that too : )
-
So far, BIOS 207.T10 looks like a step in the right direction. I haven't seen any BSODs since I installed it, but to be honest, I haven't seen any since I installed the base 207 version a couple days ago.
However, even if this does fix the BSOD issue, there are still 2 outstanding performance issues:
First, the CPU is still throttling. With Orthos and TMonitor, I can easily see the throttle.
Second, if the Turbo mode, under the High Performance option of Power4Gear, is set to Turbo or Extreme Turbo, performance is negatively impacted.
Hopefully ASUS will continue to investigate these issues. -
I just played two hours of borderlands. no bsod. it runs well. there is sometimes mild jitters but it doesnt really bother me as long as the bsod is fixed.
I think the new bios is hauling power from other places. for example. my wireless controller sometimes disconnects and reconnect. could this be that the pc is taking a lot more power. it only happens when the fan is running loudly.
other then that, it seems fine, after playing. the laptop want very hot. the power adapter however was hot which is kinda expected.
i'll play a few more hours online tonight and post later. -
Well i think this new bios solved the problem , I had 1/2 BSOD every hour or so in RES5 and today I played a total 4/5 h and no BSOD.
If this is truly a fix , I think ASUS should tell us what the problem was ... so much time spent on trying to fix it , and the time spent on rebooting after each BSOD -
There's a CPU throttling problem in this model? That I didn't know.
-
Not only when in turbo or extreme turbo, but for me, when I put it to entertainment(not high performance) i get even a better results usually 3-7 FPS in all my games.
testing RE5 online, hopefully the BSOD is gone for good. -
Yep, borderlands was fixed for me. Played for about 3 hours and no BSOD or issue whatsoever.
This is great! Now I don't have regrets keeping this machine at all
-
You still planning to get the G73?
-
Well, part of me does want to, but sadly I am not in the best economic position to do so. Right now I am finishing my college studies (which takes away all my money) and I hardly have time to game heh. My G51J helps me with all the heavy software I need to run and for my gaming now thanks to the BSOD fix.
I think I will wait for something more powerful than the HD5870 before I make the change. That..... or I go crazy on summer
Besides, my G51J is not that far behind in gaming compared to the G73JH. I might just get some crazy overclocking here and be more competitive! -
and also, What is the effect of throttling?
-
Almost all laptop that has Core i7 and powerful GPU with less than 150w AC adapter have this throttling issue.
Stuttering, AFAIK.
