I've dealt with them in the past.

I prefer to give my business to Ken Lee. He's a man of high integrity, very intelligent, and straight forward about everything. That's worth more than money to me.

Actually, XoticPC sells the G71Gx-A1 at the same price as Gentech. Xotic's price of $1968 is the CASH PRICE - ie you have to pay via Check, Money Order, Cashiers Check, Wire Transfer, or PayPal eCheck. The REAL price is in fact $2029 if you pay by credit card.

I should also mention that Gentech ALSO offers a cash price discount exactly like Xoticpc. Both these resellers sell the G71Gx-A1 at the same price.

I'm not saying Xotic is bad, it's just the way they present their prices is what confuses me. Most people whom purchase any item via the internet will usually do so with a credit card. Listing the "cash-price" in their main page gives an illusion it's cheaper than other resellers, when in fact it's not.

Personally, I would purchase from gentech, but disregarding xotic's advertising practice, they are also a reputable reseller and provides excellent customer service.

interesting. i've had the customer support, professionalism (getting on the same level with us, using things like "LOL" and "XD") and friendliness. i've had no problem with Email speed, he replies at least four times a day to my questions. obviously i haven't had a chance to use their tech support yet, but it still shouldn't be a problem. I just don't like the face that you have to use "cash" to get the discount

I'll second the seemingly flawless qualities about GenTech. Ken always gets back to me within a couple of hours (unless its on the weekend, when hes off. Then he'll email me in the wee of the night on sunday ;) ) and looks out for you in the long run. Definitely the best customer service I've ever dealt with, and he never seems to get fed up with my questions =]

I've never had bad business with Xotic, although, I've never bought from them. I talked to their staff before I talked with Ken, they were very nice and seemed professional.. A little pushy on getting me off the ASUS and more towards Sager, though.

I want to know if the gpu runs as hot as it does in the G51 or if they have a different setup and it doesnot! thanks!

That screen looks very nice for a Wxga , bright with decent coloring and i know its not tweaked . For $1150.00 this will probably be the machine to get much the same way the Gateways were when they came out. As for the Slower clocks on the GPU compared to what they should be ? that can be easily remedied and i wouldnt go worrying about that one bit. This is a 17inch chasis so it will have more breathing room :). i was torn between the 15 and the 17 but after seeing these great pics i think ill grab one of these and take it to the limit and see what its capable of.

Swapping the processor will "technically" void your warranty :) but yes it can be easily done and for far cheaper .

The one your buying though has a 2 year warranty free and 30 day dead pixel guarantee on top of having a Dual lamp WUXGA 1920x1200 screen so there are some nice perks in there plus the Q9000. My self id prefer to spend as little as possible and just add stuff to it over time but for a great out of the box experience your machine will be very nice (just not all black :)).

Yeah i know but for me its a non issue honestly , for others though its everything. ill run the machine a couple few weeks and make sure everything is kosher and at that time decide which path im going to take . most likely ill get something like a Q9100 or Q9200 as there cheaper and all thats really needed. The asus has decent overclocking ability built in through turbo gear so that should be enough for me .

If your not computer savvy then by all means stick with what you had planned as that would be the best course for you.

From what i read the p8700 which is 2.53ghz and should overclock to 2.7ish maybe 2.8 or higher i dont know yet . If SETFSB works with this computer (a program to let you overclock even higher) then it could easily hit 3.0ghz im sure. i want a Quadcore though so the Dualcore would be coming out at some point but many people really have no real use for Quadcores other then they sound cool :).

What are you going to be doing on your computer ?.

All those games you mentioned are more geared towards Dualcore CPUs for the most part , so if you go the bestbuy route your going to be fine.

Again im just giving you my take on things , though i am a pretty hardcore gamer and i own those games as well so i know for certain you will be able to play them all very well @ native 1440x900 on the bestbuy machine. Crysis will require abit of tweaking but the rest you can play maxxed out aside from Antialisasing .

    Yes you can :D
The all Black version from BB looks beautiful, just what I was looking for, was really going to get the G51 but after seeing the G71 one word, WOW!
Little dissappointed it does not come with a backlit keyboard or chiclet style keyboard but other than those 2 things really good specs.
Gpu temps on the G51 look high so I hope this is not the same for the G71

I sold it a while back then planned on buying the new alienware but just these past couple days i gave it some serious thought and realized i dont want/need a 3k laptop when i saw these and i can get them locally :). This is amazing machine spec wise with tons of potential for the $$ . i like you wanted the 15.6 more actually because of the LED backlit screen and backlit keyboard but those temps on the GPU have me Spooked honestly plus the 17incher has much more potential for higher OCs and Fatter CPUs.

I like your style man. :D
Was also looking at new AW too but not exactly wowed at what you get for the $$$ you pay.
And it really has to blow me away.
The AW seems to have issues, screen not to bright and OCing.
In my own humble opinion the Black G71 from BB looks just as nice as the AW( and to all you AW loyalists out there the AW spec wise is vastly superior over the G71, I really wanted to like the AW but something in the back of my head says definitely not worth it, maybe I expected to much...) :(
The G71 is starting to look very very nice! and I won't feel guilty after purchasing like I would the AW

Lol that was second issue , buyers remorse. I spend 3k on a laptop that i barely need to begin with and im feeling guilty before it even comes lol . I spend $1150.00 for something i wont have to worry about that at all. Ill toss in a quad and be good to go. My other HUGE issue with the Alienware aside from the dissapointing screen was the glass covering like the W90 and i knew i just could not handle that again.

Sorry, but can't do (don't work in BestBuy). I just stop there for couple minutest, took some pictures and run GPU-Z from flash drive.
Screen-look good to me. About same brightens/angles like in Gateway. Contrast seems to be better (subjective opinion).
Laptop is available for sale, at least in some BB.

So I guess I'm really undecided as to whether to get this or the smaller G51 (both from BB). I plan to buy it for college and I can tell from the pics that it's not exactly what I'd call "portable". Still, I hate giving up performance for mobility and from what I've heard the G51 has a lot of overheating issues

It's one thing to support a reseller, but to dismiss another that you don't have any experience with is called fanboyism. In the future try to avoid doing that or you'll lose credibility on these forums.

what do you mean? going with bestbuy vs xotic or gentech? ha. i don't care about credibility as long as i can help people.

anywho, what are the full specs on that computer? can you go back and possibly run a dxdiag and save it on your stick? i'd like to see the specs written like the are in my sig, hopefully the only diff is the CPU.

how would you fix the clock problem? that isnt much of a diff between the 9800GTX and the 260 anyways i don't think... or as far as mobile goes i think. is it still dual lamp? i can't imagine it being for that price.

i already found an airbrush for it. http://www.dinosys.nl/ftp/Triforce.jpg
