So basically the Third week of July is actually the 20th-24th. -scratches head- I guess the first week of the month doesn't count as the 'first week' of the month in business sense because it was half a week..

So I guess next week is the new waiting time for our A1's.

-sits stubbornly in the corner with a pout-

Yeah first full week would make sense. And I know what you mean. Waiting for the laptop to even get to the dealer is making each day draw out :x

    Tell me about it.

Every day, for the past week and a half, I've been stalking my email. Its pathetic, haha.

    Its almost painful waiting.

It's very agonizing. Makes you want to rip your eyes out and smash things. GRAAAHHHAHHAHHHHH!!!!!!!! HULK SMASH!!??!?! Kinda like that. I know once I get it, it will all be worth it. Unless it comes bricked. Then I'll cry.

Still anxiously awaiting a status change on XoticPC's site regarding my G71Gx-A1. Kinda bummed that ASUS pushed the delivery date back. I would love to have it by the end of the week.

    @bmk - I understand the frustration :S

Yup....But, the Q8200 is for desktops.Their mobile branding is iffy, as is their star-branding (FAIL). Just look at socket: LGA775/1156/1366 is desktop; PGA478 is mobile.

On a side note, PGA478 was the same socket used for old P4s, like mine, :D

I'm new to all this stuff, and finally decided that I was tired of buying laptops that were able to just 'play' games and get by with it. My problem now is I pre-ordered this laptop and in my anxious wait for it to be released, I found a asus w90vp-a1 I might be able to buy. So my question is which should I get?

If i'm able to get the w90vp-a1, it'd be pretty much the same specs(since this is the version that comes with BD/DVD and 640 HDD) except the graphics card(and sound system which I don't care about) and processor. The card is better, but from my research, has iffy support from asus. The processor isn't better because the g71gx-a1 I customized through xoticpc for a C2D P9700 2.8ghz processor. Obviously the w90vp has a bigger screen as well. So I guess to narrow my question of which to get down, will the processor difference be that big of a difference and will I hate the dual radeaons?

For spec purposes = http://www.xoticpc.com/asus-w90vpa1-order-p-2562.html - If i got it, I couldn't customize it incase anyone was gonna ask.

    Thanks for any input!

I had the same concerns when I was looking to purchase a laptop. I was torn between the W90Vp-A1 and the G71Gx-A1. Here are the reasons why I chose the G71Gx

    1. NVIDIA has better/more stable driver support in both windows and linux. Also the 260M is only supposed to use as much energy as the previous 9xxx GeForce series.
    2. I could upgrade the RAM on the G71Gx to 12GB for the same price as a base W90Vp
    3. The G71 is lighter than the W90
    4. The W90 has apparently been plagued with BIOS issues
    5. The battery would be used up a little faster with the W90 since it has dual video cards (although you can turn off 1 card in the W90 bios)
    6. From what I have heard, the G71 runs cooler and quieter than the W90
    7. The G71 has an overclock utility and I was under the impression that it didn't work for the W90. Something to do with its BIOS and the quad core (but I might be mistaken)
    8. I wanted to do some dev stuff with PhysX and CUDA, which as you know is only on the NVIDIA

If you want the laptop purely for video gaming then I would go with the W90. I need to do software development on it too and so I opted for the slightly smaller, option with more ram and 1 video card. The higher clock on the dual core should be better for gaming.

Hopefully this saves you some time.

Yeah, I don't do any software development. I'd be using it purely for games/music/movies. I wasn't aware of an overclocking tool issue, i'll read around more.

Isn't the reason the G71GX-A1 has been delayed so much have to do with bios as well? I think what it will come down to for me is which I can get first lol.

Also, I read that you can change out the cpu on the w90, so if I wanted C2D I could in the future...however I'd rather not void any warranties.

You might be right about the stability issues on the G71Gx, but I am praying that these delays won't be too long and that when I get my laptop it will run smoothly. I don't think I'd switch out any hardware personally and I'll probably buy another desktop down the road (far, far down the road).

I'm also hoping I get a stable machine as well, don't want to deal with CS since school is creeping around the corner.

It really is. Any dolt can install a game and play it, but to maximize your experience it really takes a lot of time and effort. And cash :x If you're building your own rig you also have to take into account product compatibility, air flow/cooling, power consumption, space, and wiring. ESPECIALLY with laptops: they throw a whole lot more into the equation and have much more limitations than a desktop.

Can anyone from XoticPC or GenTech confirm this? Or anyone else? First (full) week of August puts me elsewhere meaning I can't check it out when it arrives... Which could mean something for anything DoA.

Not sure where he pre-ordered it, but he did say they usually get stuff a week or two after the states, which would put ours coming out this week.

Edit: Which he said in a different thread lol....was a long day, so i mixed threads together.

I contacted xoticpc today, to inquire about the status of the pre-order and they said that asus is still telling them this week. I also inquired about the W90 and they told me that asus is no longer offering the series. So I guess that makes my choice easy, not gonna purchase a model that isn't being sold anymore.

Newegg still has some W90s in, but they're even more expensive, without the bluray.

It is good to hear that they're (planning on) shipping them out this week. Even if it's in the resellers' hands by Friday, it means we probably get them by the end of next week!

The wait is killing me!! I contacted Justin W @ XoticPc as well and he said the same thing. You gotta wonder how many units each vendor is going to get at the end of this week. Seems like there are a lot of people waiting for the G71Gx-A1, so I hope that everyone that ordered one, gets one, especially me. :D hehe

I know this sounds a bit dumb when asking this, but which one between ASUS G71GX-A1 and Sager NP8862 is better considering that after switching to 1920x1200 screen and adding the BlueRay reader to NP8662, both machines end up having the same price?
Any info will be much appreciated.

Costumizing it that way at xoticpc, the sager is still cheaper. However, I am by no means a laptop expert, but the G71GX still has the bigger screen, more HDD, and more ram. Since they have the same video card, I'd think the G71GX is the better choice.

Also the NP8662 has HDD overheating problems in quite a higher percentage of the laptops.

Customizing it to have the nearly the same specs (ram is DDR3 not DDR2, only 1 HDD) the Sager costs 500 more. If you check it out, you actually have to pay for the Vista 64 + Windows 7 upgrade when you get the sager. The 6gb of DDR3 ram is also a LOT (about $500). If you cut back on the RAM (4 gigs sounds nice for only 55) then it comes out about the same - a little cheaper because it comes with the AS5 for free.

So If you want half as much HDD space, 2GB less ram, only 1 year on parts warranty, and a 15.4" screen, the Sager NP8662 is for you!

If you want to be on the winning team, the ASUS G71GX-A1 is for you ;)

[edit] I also customized the Sager at XoticPC[/edit]

The smaller space (15.4" screen) for the chassis is usually a contributing factor to overheating. Less space means more parts cluttered together which makes airflow and heat mitigation harder.

Yeah that's what I was saying, but costumizing it the way he stated puts it cheaper...which makes the Asus a way better deal imo as well =D

I know, I was just trying to point out that he didn't bring the Sager up to par with the G71. He would have lacked a lot of things if he ordered the Sager with only the screen and blu-ray upgrades, including the Quad-core processor, which is probably one of the reasons you would want to get a G71 in the first place.

Yeah go for the Asus! The one with only 1 heat sink. And if thats not bad enough 1 heat sink for a Q processor HA! And if thats no bad enough let people overclock it! This is going to be an overheating nightmare. Oh and dont forget about the design, you gotta open the little flapies to get to your ports, gl not breaking them off. BTW Gateway just released in Japan and Canada the newest FX with a 260GTX and Quad support. Check it out if you want a stable machine.

Not to be the bearer of bad news, but I was reading the xoticpc forums, and their reps are saying that Asus has informed them of further delays and that they won't likely be available until the end of next week at the earliest, and possbily into the 1-2nd week of august.

In fact, the way you presented it did indeed make you look like a blinded fanboy, as Forge mentions. You COULD have said, "The G71 only has 1 heat sink which may lead to overheating problems. If you have strength issues, you may break the port covers." You know, something not so... provocative. Instead, you played the fanboy and tried to slam ASUS. Trust me, I know; I do that to Alienware and Apple users all the time ;)

Also, if I'm seeing the right FX you're talking about (P-7808u FX), the W90Vp-X1 outperformed it in almost all categories, while the FX had a Q9000 and the W90 only had a T9600. The G71 != W90, but it is still very similar. The FX also had a 9800GTS, so it may not have been the same.

I would also like to point out that if you have sufficient air cooling, you don't need more than 1 heat sink. If you work in an AC'd room, you need even less. When you add in the AS5 as an extra precaution, I think the chances that you'll see heat problems are slim.

So, like, whats going on with this laptop?

I come home from orientation, expecting the box to be ready on my bed, and its not here. Well, what excuses does ASUS have to entertain us with now?

I'm sure you all can imagine the vile strings of words flowing from my mouth when I realized it wasn't coming for the third time in the past month..

Guys, I have a big news, G71GX-A1 will not come out untill at least 14th of Augest. I just recieved this information from my laptop vendor, he is actually a friend of mine. He told me that he had contact with one of the Asus Sales member and this is what he heard from them. And I think this information is quite solid since I asked him "are you sure?" and he said "yes i am"
