I wound up canceling my order on Friday because of this. Ken expressed that there has been a shortage of WUXGA panels (sorry if I spelled wrong, half asleep) and that they're having difficulty gathering them.
I'm thinking of a Sager right now and upgrading it which will bring it past the performance of the G71GX. Although, I'm still disappointed in the fact I waited for something this long and had to throw in the towel.
-
I think I'm gonna stick it out. I've waited this long for it, what's another 3 weeks? My old gateway will hold out until then, I just hope it's worth the wait *crosses fingers*.
-
He said there is a shortage in this GTX260 Video card, plus everybody is ordering this laptop, the manufacture can't make this in time, so it's been delayed again to at least mid augest
-
interesting. why are so many people buying it? i;m sure there are some similar tops, no?
-
Eh, I really don't have this luxury anymore. Classes start Aug 19th and I leave the 14th, they expect you have your stuff, you know?
I just can't afford to be slapped in the face in the first week because I didnt have my laptop..I'm really disappointed but I guess I'll get over it
-
Your uni expects you to have a laptop the day you start class? I still take notes with pencil and paper for the most part. For stuff like projects that require a computer (like 3d modeling), they usually have computer labs you can go to to do them. Honestly, the only reason why I'm getting the G71 is because I'm lazy and I don't want to go to the computer labs
I can do all the modeling I want right from my dorm room, while I torrent, blast my music, browse the web, and maybe even encode some video.
-
I got tired of waiting as well, and cancelled my order. Instead, I took the plunge on a W90VP. I wanted one more, but was hesitant because of the issues some people were having.
-
Actually, for a price around $2500 CAD,(USD maybe cheaper) G71Gx-A1 have Quard core CPU, full HD 1920X1200 screen, blu-ray DVD combo, 640 GB hard disk, and 6GB DDR2 ram, and GTX260 video card, it's a very sweet deal.
I was also interested in Alienware M17x, because it looks sooooooo damn cool, so I compared this 2 laptop.
The minimum set up of M17x is only duel core, 4 gb ddr2 ram, 1440x900 resolution(not full HD), 250gb hard disk and a normal DVD-RW. And it is $2199 CAD, ($1799USD I think) If i customize M17x's hardware to exactly the same as G71Gx-A1, it will be like $3600 CAD.
So...I suggest that if you can wait, then wait for the G71Gx-A1.
As for me, I travle a lot for business and I like games a lot. Plus my old laptop had been broken for 2 month, I now share a desktop with my wife and it's really a pain in the . I can't wait another 3 weeks for it, so I am thinking of ordering the M17x and since I dont care about Quard core and blu-ray and full HD screen so much, im just gonna upgrade it to a 500gb hard disk.
I will also keep an eye on G71Gx-A1 because i can get much more for the same price -
So word on the street (from XoticPC forums) is that ASUS got a shipment of G51s (and therefore possibly G71s) in late today (Monday), so the low down is that they'll be shipping them out to the resellers tomorrow (Tuesday). I've been told to take this information with a grain of salt, and so I shall. I just thought I would let everyone else in on the info.

I did stumble onto this review today. I apologize if it has been previously posted.

According to Justin@XoticPC the G71Gx-A1 was delayed again. Here is his post:
-
Ok what is QA? I hope that the Q in QA doesn't stand for Quality and the A Acceptance.......If so whats wrong.
Usually we would say QC i.e. Quality Control. -
QA would be Quality Assurance
-
Well that has to be a bit "concering".
-
Oh wow, that's an awful review. Asus really needs to hit the mark on something soon.
I don't understand what they are doing with their product line. Seems the company is pushing to main stream commercial businesses like Best Buy and the quality is suffering . If I were a reseller, I'd be downright disgusted with it. As a consumer, my options become limited again. -
This is not G71GX-A1, This is G71GX-75008K
A1 is not out yet, dont know what is difference between this two. -
The 75008K is a T9550 (2.66gHz) dual-core instead of the Q9000 (2.00gHz) quad-core and the screen is only WSXGA (1440x900) instead of WUXGA (1920x1200) and the A1 screen has the coveted dual-lamp technology. So the biggest difference would most likely be an increase in performance, however so slight, and a much crisper, more vibrant screen.
-
I wouldn't call it slight...most games today max out around 2.4GHz of C2D power; the extra 666MHz from the T9550 (plus the larger cache: 6MB per dual core versus 3MB) will definitely be noticeable. Just saying...
~Ibrahim~ -
The cache is the same, 6MB per core on the T9550 and the Q9000. The T9550 has more MHz, but the Q9000 has 2 more cores. I guess that really only matters if you do multi-thread tasks.
-
I see, so it's not really a big difference after all.
I was wondering, if 75008K is out already, why not A1? -
So the biggest issue is that there's no screens for the A1. I guess they're also trying to smooth out some of the issues mentioned in review of the 75008K, but for the most part its the screen.
-
Actually, the cache is NOT the same. The Q9000 has two dual-cores with 3MB EACH mushed into a single processor. Each dual-core can only use 3MB; it doesn't have access to the other 3MB on the OTHER dual-core.bmk07 said: ↑The cache is the same, 6MB per core on the T9550 and the Q9000. However, the T9550 has 6MB for it's dual-core. Both cores can access the full 6MB of cache. It's not a big difference, but it can help in some areas.
Yup: only multi-threaded applications.

Yup. When quads come to eMachines, that will be the day when quads are now the norm.
We just need some applications to push people to buy them, but, of course, now you have chicken-egg problem.

Get a hold of yourself, Soviet. Must not rage at the video.

Asus estimates put it at Aug 14th at the earliest due to the screen shortage, but that's not a solid date. It could still be held longer depending on whether they fix the "QA" issues they've been having.Malignant said: ↑So uh when is this gonna be available ?Click to expand...
The G71Gx-A1 is the new Asus product. So new, it hasn't even been released yet! (Note the mild sarcasm)lm_jsph718 said: ↑could some body help me to choose???

huh?? its not been release??
what do u mean?? do u mean in stores??
cause in the net they're already selling g71gx-a1... -
so the g71gx-a1 is more newer than g70s..hmm... its actlly obvious in the name.. hehe
but how come g70s has many button??and extra lights...hehehe -
No, they're pre-selling the G71Gx-A1. If you order it now, you will not get it in the standard 3-5 day processing + 3-5 shipping time. You'll have to wait until the reseller gets it, which is unknown to all but ASUS. Maybe even them...lm_jsph718 said: ↑huh?? its not been release??

Because that's how Asus made it? I guess they decided it was too many buttons and they made a change to reduce the number of buttons in the G71. From my understanding they were programmable buttons that you could use as shortcuts once you set them. Someone with experience with the computer might be able to elaborate more on them.lm_jsph718 said: ↑so the g71gx-a1 is more newer than g70s..hmm... its actlly obvious in the name.. hehe

They talked about it a bit when Ken posted the G70 videos. I'm too lazy to go back and look for the specific postsMelinapayne said: ↑has to do with the screen (or gpu) supply if you read through the thread. this is the first i have heard of the buttons thingClick to expand...

Anyone heard anything about the G71Gx-A1? Seems like it has been crickets for the last 2-3 weeks. I thought we were supposed to hear something mid-August. Just wondering...
-
Word got out yesterday, xoticpc is getting their shipments within the week!!! Hopefully the rest of us get ours soon!!!!
