anyone get theirs yet? and yes it is dual lamp
-
-
Seems that screen came in the whitebook as well which did not support dual lamp . Maybe they offer it in both flavors though . Probably not hard for them to add in the extra bulb im sure
.
This is quoted from a whitebook forum post .
The monitor ID is: LGD3901
Manufacture number: LP171WU3-TLB3 -
Is that anywhere near as good as the TL A2 you got quad lol
-
To be honest man i dont know but Zfactor would since he is very familiar with the whitebook and the screens they came with
.
-
Yeah I pm'd him earlier but no reply.
-
So what the heck did no one order one? I ordered mine on Monday and its being shipped so I won't get mine until friday. Someone must have already gotten theirs.
-
WOW just received mine and IT IS NOT A DUAL LAMP = FALSE ADVERTISING. I was told by both xoticpc and gentechpc it was a dual lamp. The screen is not that bright and has uneven illumination too. So disappointed this is going straight back.
-
I got mine last Friday, but work has kept me so busy, I haven't had time to do anything other than setup the operating systems and software...Looking into Forge's copper block mod currently to see how many will fit in mine. I will post info on my G71Gx as soon as I have some time (Hopefully during this long weekend)
-
i'm glad its finally out for you guys. mine is working fine for me- just buy a bluetooth dongle, and you basically have the same computer. unless you are doing some heavy heavy stuff, my computer might actually be SLIGHTLY faster

Just bought some copper blocks and some Sekisui Thermal tape. Clearance on the G71Gx to mount the blocks looks good. I should be able to mount some on the heatpipes and if I'm lucky, a couple on the GPU Heatsink. I don't think I'll be drilling any holes until my warranty expires. My GPU was sitting around 76-80C playing crysis last night and the CPU cores were at 50-55C. Hopefully the additional copper will drop that further. I have to hand it to the Cryo LX, it definitely pushes a lot of air.
-
Mine just shipped today so hopefully I'll have it in hand on tuesday. Also snagged the Cryo LX to cool it. Let me know how the copper block installation goes.
-
So no one cares that it isn't dual lamp as advertised?
-
Because we were told by Asus everything will be the same as G71G-Q1/Q2, even the screen AUO B170UW02 V0 (also found on G2S and G70Sg) which is dual lamp, the only difference will be just the video card.
And then, the OLED shortage so G71Gx was delayed and they decided to remove OLED, and it got delayed again (very long delayed)because of the LCD panel shortage, now they finally got the panel from LG which I did post the part #, didn't know it turn out to be single lamp.
However, people at Getaway section seem have different opinion about the LG screen, they love the screen and don't want it if it not LG LGD3901:

Then why didn't the price go down? the $2000 is suppose to include the good dual lamp not a decent single lamp.
-
Mine will be here on tuesday, I had to return the G51vx-RX05 due to the screen. Coming from a 24" non TN panel monitor I just couldn't do the small monitor with low resolution. Hopefully I won't be dissapointed as 2k was hard to convince the wife of!

I received my g71gx-a1 last Friday. It seems to have the GPU throttling issue as I can play prototype for around 30-45 minutes and then the frame rate goes to 1-2 FPS and I have to reboot.
Bios: American megatrends INC 1701 8/6/2009 v 2.4
anyone else having this issue? -
-
-
Well I'm returning mine and upgrading to a g71g with 9800gs but has the dual lamp and oled display.
-
Hope that helps. -
Would you recommend I go with the ASUS at this point, or should I wait for a while and see if the issues with the throttling (BIOS issue?) get worked out? I know the older G71GX models had issues before the BIOS upgrade resolved them.. -

I can say that I am very happy with my G71 and as I'm sure I would have been with the Clevo. I just felt that the warranty was more important to me along with the ASUS specs since I am doing software development on the box. -

Hey guys,so I`m now in Winnipeg.
Today I went to Best Buy,but unfortunately they didn` have the ASUS G71 there,or on other store for that matter.
So I was wondering if you would recommend any other place to buy the G71,on-line or hands on - it really doesn`t matter.
Thanks in advance! -

Where the hell is Winnipeg? Do you get to win pegs there?
You can try Newegg.ca or NCIX. -
lol
Winnipeg is in Canda,in the province of Manitoba. -

i have had my laptop from bestbuy for about 3 months. If i tell them the computer has the throttling problem, can I still return it?
-
How much is G71GX-A1 in future shop? and where can I buy this model
with cheaper price? any idea will be appreciated. -
-
where can you buy the older version with the 9800 gs and the oled display?
-
Ebay most likely

Does anybody know how to over clock this baby!??!?!
Using Asus TurboGear Extreme, under the settings bar. The drop down menu has nothing! Can this machine be over clocked?? Someone said to me here on the forum that it cannot be overclocked! IS THIS TRUE? -
SoundOf1HandClapping Was once a Forge
Lurk moar.
This particular G71gx--with a quad core--cannot be overclocked through the Asus software. -
He was already told that in the post he made, apparently it didn't sink in.
-
No it did not sink in!
-
Bump. How is this computer working for everyone?
-
Fantastic!! This was my first ASUS laptop and I am definitely sold on ASUS. Of course it will be a long, long time before I buy a new one
I'll probably put SSD's in once the prices drop a little, but thats probably the only thing I'll change.
I do wish that I could have overclocked the Q9000 using ASUS tools but thats not as big a deal, I guess. -
I've read most of your issues and I find it pretty strange that you're getting so high temperatures from G71.
I got mine from an e-shop in Germany (it's the first, discontinued revision of G71V with the Core 2 Duo T9400, 9700GT, the OLED panel, the 1920x1200 dual lamp monitor and the 1333MHz Kingston DDR3 --well, they're locked at 1066 MHz by the BIOS), but never had such problems.
Mine idles at:
CPUs: around 33 degr Celsius (91 degr Fahrenheit )
GPU: around 39-45 degr Celsius (102-113 degr Fahrenheit
And running full (eg in a 3D game):
CPUs: around 55-60 degr Celsius (131-140 degr Fahrenheit
GPU: 68-70 degr Celsius (158 Fahrenheit)
These temperatures are for normal operation, not using "Turbo mode", not using any kind of overclocking, in a "spring" room temperature of around 21 degr C. I can get more out of the gfx card by tweaking the graphics settings and the NVidia registry settings, than by having it burn.
These temperatures remained about the same after changing the T9400 with a quad processor (QX9300, using Arctic Silver thermal paste). Also remained the same after changing the stock 500GB HDD with 2 x WD Scorpio Black 250GB, using RAID 0.
Now, what I usually do is keep the back of the laptop's base a little higher, by having under it an empty cigarette pack all the time and every 4 months I open the bottom, detach the fan by removing the 2 screws and remove the pack of dust that sits there, in front of the air vent, using a piece of cloth and an air-spray. The fan itself hardly needs any cleaning, as it doesn't seem to collect any dust.
Having the dust stay there, after 6-8 months, increased the GPU temperature from 70 degr C to 90 degr C, under full load, so it seems this is something you have to do for this laptop.
Having such high temperatures is quite abnormal for this model. As for the issues with the GPU drivers, never had them, but I have made a clean install (format) and never used ASUS drivers for the GPU; I use the official NVidia laptop drivers, using Vista and 7 64bit, plus some tweaks. Giving more info about the retailer from which you got the laptop from could help.

The 9XXX series runs a lot cooler than the GTX 2XX series.
The dual core T9400 is rated at a lower wattage than the Q9000 for TDP.
Please can you clarify. -
Sorry, I wasn't clear, no, mine is a G71 V, not a G71 Gx-A1, but I supposed it would be around the same temperatures since they have the same case and thermal design; didn;t know the GT(X)2xxx was so much hotter that the 97xx.
-
I ran the laptop without the bottom cover, on my cooler and never hit over 74C when playing games. However when the cover is on I usually peak around 85C. -
For nearly a year we have been developing the G71gx-a1 because it had most of the prerequisites for becoming a "videography workstation" . . . namely a notebook computer capable of generating any kind of content in print, video, publishing, business or other realms of modern communication.
The threshold we chose was the adoption of 64-bit OS. We chose Windows 7 Pro. The essential suites that compile our "videography workstation" are Microsoft Office 2010 and Adobe Creative Suite 5.
It has been like herding cats to get all the necessary components and capabilities onto one platform and we're not quite there yet. But close.
For the back story on our quest see: Quad Core and Premiere Pro : Adobe Premiere Pro which details the hassles that we had with ASUS to get their G71gx-A1 when they first announced it and the crazy times we went through to get to today.
Today we know that Adobe has worked with a select number of Nvidia GeForce CUDA cards to give them accelerated capability with their CS5 programs. The "chosen" cards do not include the GeForce 260M which is on the ASUS G71gx or Alienware's lates i7 gaming notebooks ???
Videographers use a LOT of drive space so big fast externals are key. The G71gx may be a dinosaur, but it has an ExpressCard slot and that gives it up to 300GB per second sustained transfer rate if we hook up to a RAID 5 according to our sources at Addonics, who specialize in such things.
The alternative is to wait for deployment of USB 3.0 and though ASUS has announced it on their new "N" series at this years NAB show, the computers fall short in other areas like display resolution.
So we are going to stick with the G71gx for the initial testing and wondered if any body knew whether you could install more than the 6GB of DDR2 memory into this notebook? We'd like to get to 8GB because the way Adobe sets up CS5, 2GB per core balances very well. We still pray that Adobe will quality the GeForce 260M for CS5.
Other than a noisy 500GB HD and no customer service from Tech Direct, the ASUS dealer who sold us the G71gx via eBay last August we like it very much. It's Chinese decor attracts a lot of attention

has anyone tried to upgrade the graphic card?
