I'll tell you exactly why, because didn't Asus keep you holding on, like a good horror novel for many weeks, and not buy another competitor's laptop? If Asus was honest from the start, by the time the thing came out, everyone would already be enjoying their AW, Tosh or whatever else they bought and Asus would have a ton of G73's sittin on the discount bin collecting dust. Smart move really, ethical? Not a chance, but smart move.

Good luck.
At this price point, nothing compares. -

I was trying to point out that ASUS doesn't have any competition at this price negating Solid11's comment. -

Still pre-order though, I believe. -

Hrmm thats actually not a bad idea in a way. I don't necessarily need an extra hard drive bay but that made me think of a few possiblities:
If the optical drive's connector is sata, theoretically you could remove your optical drive completely, then buy a spare optical drive bezel and dremel a slot + drill a few screw holes into the spare/replacement bezel to mount an esata adapter ripped off a sata-to-esata bracket into it.
Otherwise, I could prob mount an esata connector through the bottom panel (run from the second drive's sata port and bay) if I could get a spare bottom panel. Initially I thought I'd have to hike up the notebook up fairly high on something in order to keep an esata cable in, but perhaps I could mount the esata adapter so that it is mounted horizontally inside the second hdd bay/panel, recessed, and use a flat esata cable when connecting to it.
In that latter case, replacing the optical drive with the harddrive-in-optical bay kit would probably be worth considering eventually so that I would still have two hard drive bays for adding a ssd OS drive someday.
Thats if the optical drive is sata, and if I can get a spare panel so I can revert everything back to factory if I need to. Could be a fun little project.. something to think about anyway. Thanks for the link. -
OMG only 4 left then you get to wait for a month

i just found this review from newegg for G73JH-X1
i'm not sure if this person knows or have this laptop...
Reviewed By: on 2/10/2010 Tech Level: high - Ownership: less than 1 day
Pros: This thing is a beast of a laptop.
Cons: You cannot call it a laptop when it weighs as much as a desktop.
For this kind of money you could get a much better desktop.
Other Thoughts: Don't waste money on this expensive heavy "laptop" as it weighs the same as a desktop.
You could easily build something much much faster than this in a desktop for this kind of money.
Also this thing will heat up fast, so;
Its as heavy as a desktop.
Portability is harder because of its size and weight
It will heat up and have horrible cooling, and require a laptop cooler to even think about gaming on your lap.
It might as well be a desktop!
So go for the desktop and build your own, and save money and get more gaming performance! -
That person is a tool and is why you should take site reviews like that with a grain of salt

Yeah.

I read that too and laughed. Worst review ever. I like the "it WILL heat up". If he had the laptop he could say if it did or not. I guess his idea of expensive and mine are different as well. I think this has tons of bang for the buck. -
If you were to buy some of the parts yourself without bulk discounts... the gpu is prob around $400 bux and the cpu is $380 - $400 alone. That leaves $650 left including profit for all the rest of the parts incl. 8gb notebook ram (4gbx2 = around $170 x2 at the cheapest ~ $340), 500gb hdd ( ~ $100) and a 1920 x 1080 notebook screen ( $$ ???) among other things. I think the price is pretty fair at this point in time, being at the higher end of the $1200 - $1500 range.
If that guy thinks 8lb is heavy he better never try to pick up my dufflebag lol. I have a 17" notebook backpack with rubberized handle on top already from back when I had a 17" hp (that notebook burned up). Eight pounds is easy for me. If you need an ultralight you should get a netbook or something. I still don't think it would be too heavy if I added another harddrive. I may even sometimes throw extra hardware in my backpack with it. When repairing people's laptops Ive been known to have two 15" notebooks, my netbook, all their power blocks, and misc supplies in my dufflebag all at once. I also lug around what looks like a mini amplifier but is actually a black metal qmicra v2 matx computer case from time to time. This asus notebook is a desktop replacement. Made to be portable, not really mobile. I have a netbook and a winmo phone for mobility. Everything else just goes to and from my truck to various surfaces and power outlets. -
Here in Australia we also seem to be getting another model soon :

It sounds like this machine will have a lot of bloatware on it.
What's the best way to remove all the bloatware? Is it just doing the remove programs in the control panel?
Reformatting won't do anything since it will reinstall the factory programs right? -

I was just thinking today while at work, and wanted to ask a general question to all of you... I am a network admin and I am at a computer all day (and in the server room). It allows me to be doing a bunch of things at once which also includes having one of my laptops running the NBR forum. While I am running processes and diags I am able to hop back and forth to the forum all day.
My question is this. How in the the hell can the rest of you afford to be posting to the forum all day. Don't you work!? Don't you go to school!? haha
I just had to know. -
by the time A1 arrives, other laptops with ATI 5870 SLI would become available ><
-
i go to school.... boorrrrrrrrrrring. -
Quagmire LXIX Have Laptop, Will Travel!
I can play a game or watch a movie on my laptop at work, I would just likely have to hit pause a lot
Q -
I run a 15" laptop with a 24" monitor so I make sure the browser is on the 15" screen.
It's when I'm at home that I'm too busy with the gf or gaming to be checking the forum -
Actually, is anyone familiar with powernotebooks' situation on stock? I made my preorder last week and their reply on when I would realistically get it was 'we cannot cannot guarantee anything' and that sort of bullcrap.
My last laptop broke so I'm actually surviving on my netbook at the moment. If I have to wait until mid-March or April it's totally out of my question and I'll cancel the preorder and get something else instead.
Would really appreciate a little bit of help here -
classes have been canceled since the weekend so I always had time to check. before then. I had my laptop infront of me in classes....multitasking FTW

Odd work schedule yields blocks of time off. Can access from work intermittently as well. Access while repairing pc's on the side at home or working on house too.
