unlessyou are a bio mechanical engineer and need to run super advance simulations and programs, the G73 can pretty much do anything the alienware desktop can do.(gaming, movies, web browsing, small app simulations)

I'm a lazy bastid, and I prefer to do all my surfin'/gamin' while laid back in my couch's built-in recliner. But, how can you sit a large laptop on your lap for hours on end, you ask? Answer is I don't! I use an Airdesk. Man, once I found this baby I never looked back. It has served me well and I look forward to using it with my G73.

    Here is a pic:

I just got a PM from Justin, and there is no raid..... Looks like I'm gonna have to buy something else, or shop around shop around next week. Those of you that didn't preorder can forget about next week or even the second shipment around 3-2-10, you're gonna be waiting for a while.

Guess I'm gonna be looking at Sager, the G51 or do some calling on the 17th if thats when the A1 comes in.

I use this and love it ... I had another laptop cart but some of my laptops have been so heavy that the off center arm made them very wobbly and lets say not very safe ... This does it all and its rock solid... Can hold a 17 inch laptop with plenty of space left over for a mouse.... Its on sale to boot :)...

As for your earlier question about the Creative stuff installed ? it is installed on my machine and Steam is running just fine....

    Justin!
Are you sure Asus USA won't ship any G73 with smaller screen resolution, lesser RAM and HDD and with i5 cpu?

Core i5 would be way enough for me and just the slower CPU would mean -$140 (according to CPU world price list) :)

YES! Just found out that my G73 should be here by the end of the week! Now I am not stuck with doing everything on my hp pavillion a340n. Man that thing is old, but it has hung in there pretty good. Not bad for paying $100 for it in 2004!

I think Ken from gentech confirmed the US would not be getting any i5 G73 variants. Those will be Europe and Asia only.

But I am bummed to learn bout them not able to put on the ic diamond and it only having 2 antenna leads.

Anyone know a place to by a replacement notebook antenna for the intel 5300? Thinking bout trying to do a non-invasive mod. Tell me if you know a place specifically.

Thanks to the best forum group on the planet! (I'm talking bout the members not the site, though NBR is pretty good too! lol)

That looks nice... height adjustable? Does it go low enough to be comfortable with an average to low sofa? Right now I have a homemade lap desk with very specific design for maximum cooling for my old Inspirion E1705/9400. I don't think the same lap desk will be feasible for this new laptop.

Just ordered a G73 from Ken Lee at GenTechPC.com. One of the smartest things I've done in my life.

The guy is a class act. He answered ALL my PMs this past weekend shortly after I sent them, and still found the time to post all those G73 videos to YouTube.

All the great things I read about him and GenTechPC.com are true. I'm glad I came to these forums and learned about them both.

    Thank you again Ken!!!

To people saying OMGZ there's no way if you order now you'll never get one before march 2nd and it may be to late for that! You know where are more than like 3 places to buy this laptop right? I just ordered my A1 today at www.shopblt.com and they are getting them on the 20th. They even have like 33 left for pre order. Seeing as how in light that you really can't upgrade anything from GenTech,Xotic, or anyone else and are basically getting a stock PC why's it matter where your sealed asus box comes from? Sorry if it's a rant, it's just annoying that everyone keeps saying "You prolly wont get it even march 2nd if you order today" Which is true if you can't figure out more than 3-4 companies sell this laptop.

What helped you decide the G73 was the smartest decision for your computer purchase? I'm not trying to annoy you, just curious :p

Yea by 32 bucks. But get it (At my door) Feb 23rd or so...or March 5th possibly later for 32 dollar difference. I know you're scraping for cash but 32 dollars more on a 1600+ laptop is kinda meh. But you need the time to get the cash ;)

not very much.. the turbo thrusts the 4cores into 1.7GHz... almost like the 820. So if you dont feel like spendind extra.. dont. IF money is no issue at all, then go for the 920 lol :D

Thanks Ziddy! Congratulations to us both as well (and everyone else who's getting a G73).

I actually was looking more at the G51JX. It came down to the numbers. For just a little bit more in price, I was getting a whole lot more in the G73 with respect to the CPU and GPU, not to mention the innovative dual fan cooling system and the sleek cool looks. Let's just say my last gaming laptop was a HP ZD7000 and I will NEVER again get another laptop that overheats and fries its internals with an inadequate cooling solution.

The MSI looks great on paper with all the ports that it has (and the G73 doesn't). But I did my research and wasn't impressed with all the homemade fixes to the MSI's keyboards in various models and other build issues.

I'll take a barebones Porsche over a souped up Honda anyday. Plus, with all the wise people in this forum going for the G73, how could I go wrong? At worst case, we're all going to be lemmings together!

That video is exactly why I don't like marketers. They can sell snow to eskimos. Fortunately in our case, they're marketing a GREAT laptop in the G73.

Agreed. That video makes me kinda embarrassed to buy this thing. One of the major reasons I'm buying the G73 is because it doesn't have all the dumb lights and gills and crap that the Alienware systems have.

Now if only I could find a way to get rid of the badges on this thing...

Lets make this very clear the utility that Asus uses to overclock the 1.6 720qm to 1.7 ghz IS NOT TURBO BOOST. It is an ASUS UTILITY. Turbo boost is an INTEL THING that causes the CPU to overclock when not all 4 cores are used.

So, any suggestions on best place to order if I'd like to see it in Q12010?

I looked at Bottom Line Telecommunications but it doesn't look like I can get the 3rd year warranty there.

    Thanks

I'm in a similar position. I'd love the higher performance/lower cost of a desktop but just don't have the space to set it up in the small apartment I'm in. So to find a gaming laptop with these specs at this price was pretty good. I'll get the laptop then by the time this gets old I'll be in a house and will get a desktop.

I am reconsidering about my preorder of ASUS G73JH.

Still waiting to hear back from Ken in regard to Gentechpc's position on upgrading the CPU. Otherwise I might either wait out for newer models or switching to Alienware or Clevo
