Yep and now we need a programer/hacker person to take that program apart so we can boost it higher! I want at minimum 2.2ghz on this cpu when all 4 cores are under load.

    Pre Ordered..
Been reading for ages, when striker was one of the crew, sad sad days, was getting this and m11x, but due to the lack of stacking in the m11x just getting this, and can finally afford to pre order.

Can't wait, PC Canada gave me a 'Hope we get it in' when I casually said 'can't wait till thursday' take that for what its worth.

Yes, but only for people who already pre-ordered the upgrade (Ken said it's going to be very very troublesome and time consuming, but he would honor those pre-existing orders)

My impressions is that he won't do it for those who order now.

I can't wait any longer. Really researching M17x. The edge-to-edge glass is nice and the eSATA would be nice for sysprep'ing customer machines.

Ah, finally Asus Hungary told the resellers the starting price for the G73 (i7 720, 2x500GB HDD and 8 GB RAM)...$2440 (490.000 HUF) :D :D Man I love the EU.

That's definitely very nice of them!

I was afraid you were canceling because of a quality issue or something other then just upgrades.

That is VERY awesome of Ken. I can't imagine how many hours he is going to have to put in to get that done. Speaks volumes for the way he conducts business.

Honestly, if I had pre-ordered with him I would just tell him it's OK to not put it in. It is perfectly understandable after seeing Justin's video why it's just not realistic to have to do.

The drivers/utility are on a separate disk from the windows recovery. So you can do a clean install of Windows and use that to install your drivers.

    Hey Quad,

Just wondering what windows 7 rates your hard drive performance with your SSD in there (i believe i read this before that you put one in). I seen on some reviews that the stock drive is a 5.9 rating. Or if anyone else has the answer to this... sorry if it has been asked.... read through quite a lot and don't recall it being mentioned...

I ordered mine through greytech.com here in ontario canada. They are expecting their first shipment of A1's wednesday or thursday. Their second shipment is expected on the 28th of Feb. I, luckily got one on this weeks shipment. Guess we will find out soon enough.

Im honestly quite worried lol. Worried you ask? This laptop along with the mens hockey (olympics) is going to ruin me for school. How the heck im I going to care about school?!?!??!?!

    only time will tell....

GTA4 does not do AA unless you use a 3rd party program but it kills performance from what i have read..... As for Max in game i run it at 30/30 detail distance and run everything else on high or very high.. it runs very well overall though ...

Ya main reason I went with A2, can get them now and IF i really need blu-ray i'll upgrade later when the dust settles. Why wait 3 or more weeks for something I barely even use on my PS3, let alone on new laptop.

I use the Microsoft Habu. Which is actually a Razer DeathAdder except using the 2000 DPI laser on the Copperhead. The other difference is the Habu like the Logitech MX518 has 2 dedicated buttons to change sensitivity right below the mouse scroll.

I think DeathAdder/Habu are great, ergonomic and comfortable. Been having fun with it in Killing Floor, Crysis Warhead and FEAR 2 so far.

Don't think this is a good benchmark is computer is good or not. It was a horrific port from console and the Microsoft Live bloatware is a nightmare. It was obvious they didn't care if it would run on a PC or not.

For game performance if you've read the G73 is impressive for a single GPU laptop. Crysis Warhead with all Gamer settings 4AA, no problem, no stuttering. MW2 runs smooth as Ken from GenTech posted video of. Eats up FEAR 2 easily. Another review had it getting up to 40 FPS 1920*1080 @ 4AA high settings.

Personally I think DIRT 2 is the gaming benchmark for the G73 as it boasts incredibly graphics like Crysis, but it's been optimized for DX11.

Without thinking the DeathAdder. The Abyssus is small. It's perfect for say a 10 year old boy/girl. And it's only 3 buttons. I personally like the 2 extra buttons by the thumb whether I'm playing FPS or MMO.

If you want a larger SSD, it can be installed easily. The HDD can be removed within 2 minutes. No joke, literally 2 minutes. Remove 2 screws. Uncovers the large panel. Remove 2 screws from the HDD casing. Pull the black ribbon back, HDD is out.

Thanks for the input. I hate small mouses...
and I thought abyssus had 2 buttons... maybe I saw it wrong.
I guess I'll be using my deathadder. I was actually kinda excited for the new mouse.

I did furmark already bennyg it was fine but I ran it for only 5 minutes. Temps topped out though and it was ok.

An update for everybody, I came to work 3 hours early today gave up my sleep. Got the photoshoot done, all external and screen pictures are done. I did not get the internal pictures I forgot my screwdrivers.

I also seem to have fixed my issue with steam freezing up my system when I start it. I found a lead that it was the creative software and that I needed to uninstall it to fix the problem. When I thought why it would freeze now and not from the get go I remembered the only thing I did in the last day or so was enable the bass boost in the creative panel. I just turned that off and sure enough steam works again. So I can start the game benchmarks.

Im busy trying to get all the programs installed on the computer that I need like image editors and fraps and all that jazz so I can start the benchmarking portion of the review.

Haha that actually sounds good to me and I have giant mutant hands. Just curious, are you able to use the mouse on the space to the side of the touch pad? Or is that a bad idea? That's what I did with the logitech V220 mouse on the G71 I had before the wireless died on it.

After all the newest info, from the temps posted to the cooling system in general, to Justin's latest video - is it reasonable to assume that the thermal compound is not only incredibly difficult to apply, but probably not worth it anyway?

Not enough to be worth the trouble. In an ideal scenario on a desktop, it can reduce temps by about 5c. You would probably see 2-3c at the most in a laptop situation.

I pre-ordered with Ken also, and am going to just cancel the thermal compound to be fair after all he's done for us/me.
