E-Check takes about a week to clear (from my experience). Just when you're purchasing, make sure that you choose the echeck option and not direct transfer or cc.

So noone answered my question... since Asus said this will be the new design for all of the ROG laptops, when will they launch a less expensive/powerful version? I love the design but dont need top of the line since I mostly game on my desktop.

Since no one from ASUS lurks these forums, I guess the simple answer is that no one knows.

This may be why you haven't received an answer.

Ok sorry, its just that I sold my Mac (I used to record a lot of audio with logic, not anymore) and the money is burning a hole in my wallet for the G73... it calls to me :p

If I knew if/when a less expensive lappy that looks the same would come out, itd make it easier to resist clicking buy now on xoticpc. :)

    They already have :)

Just take a look at the ASUS N61JQ-A1 or ASUS N71JQ-A1. Better than average gamer and very good multimedia laptops at more affordable prices.

Now, if you want the same looks the answer is probably not ever.

Oh, dude... we're right there with you. Even though I'm not buying the G73JX because of its lack of ExpressCard & eSATA, it's still a sweet laptop.

I think the G51JX might be for me.

Bestbuy may have a trimmed down version of G73JH, but again that is pure speculation.

You can postpone payment and provide payment details once the item arrives into stock. With most sellers payment is not required at the time of pre order. :)

Will any of the resellers be doing benchmarks or anything of the sort for us?

Feb 11th seems to be the Canadian date, the American date got pushed back to the 17th due to a problem clearing customs.

If by chance I happen to get mine before others do is there any specific benchmarks people would like to see? Please tell me what benchmark and the settings you would like.

Perhaps this info should be put up on the OP? It's being repeated quite a few times already. It is useful information though.

yeah sorry I didnt realize it, just happened to click on the A2 because it was cheaper and went  because everything looked the same other than the price.

    Such a tough decision.... :p

Quick question, I never really considered the A2, but now that I think about it. how much better is BlueRay over DVD in laptops? as the biggest laptop i ever had is my current 12" dell XT tablet with a matte 700/800p screen. Will the quality be the same when connected to my HDTV when compared to a standalone BlueRay player instead of buying one for my TV aswell?

Since it's all digital, the quality should be (pixel for pixel) the exact same.

The only reason to have Blu-Ray in a laptop is if you want to watch movies directly on the laptop itself or don't own a separate Blu-Ray player.

Mightve watched a Blu-Ray once on my PS3 so it was an easy decision for me. I (legally) DL all of my videos for the most part.

Yeah, I bought my PS3 in a PS3+TV bundle deal a few months ago and the only thing I do on it is watch Revision3 and play movies. It's an HTPC for me. :)

I reckon if you don't have a blu-ray player or a PS3, the $100 extra you pay for the A1 over the A2 is well worth it.

The only reason why I get a Blueray driver on this G73JH is for future proof.... who knows that in the future, they might start phasing out DVDs and release PC games on Blueray only? (kind of like what happened to CD-ROMs)

    p.s. I have a PS3 too (J-NTSC 60G version :p)

It's normally one screw and the slim drive slides right out. :D Insert Blu-Ray drive and bam, you're future-proofed.

not meaning to get off topic but does anyone know of a place where you can LEGALLY download 1080p movies. I know I can buy the bluRay disk and then just download it through means that I wont mention; but is there I can pay and download it?

    Thanks

Well I know for a fact that a lot of data in our company is now being backed up onto Bluray (bigger size will require less physical storage space). That and bluray movies and games will be in soon - guaranteed. Although you could always swap the player over to bluray later - but $100 in the whole scheme of things doesn't seem that high really.

Definitely will not see PC games in bluray format only for a long time. Not until your standard $500 PC comes with a BR drive standard. A game company just would not do that to themselves by cutting off 90%+ of there customers.

Now maybe we will see single BR disk options to go along with multiple dvd games sometime soon, depends on manufacturing costs.

Plus if you don't have a Blu-Ray drive and want to play the latest games, almost all games are available now to download the day of release.

Of course you mean legal ways lol, but I do get all my games digital download now actually. its a lot easier to d/l the game when I want it no matter what computer I am on than to have to find a disk. I often lose disks or wont have them with me when I need them.

Hey do you guys think it's ok that I didn't upgrade my thermal compound for G73JH?

I'm not planning on overclocking it or anything so I thought that it would be an unnecessary upgrade. But now I am starting to have doubts.

I'll add these common questions to a Q & A in the G73 Lounge maybe later tonight if not tomorrow.

    one question about the G73JH-A1/A2,

I pre-ordered the A1 version (with xoticpc) with no bluray drive , would my dvd drive be the exact same specifications as the A2 version?

It should be the same if you downgrade. They did list the A1 and A2 so it's easier to choose without have to config it.
