What's the difference between A1 and A2. I only see the Blu Ray drive to be the difference.

Also are these shipping yet?

 

Yes, the optical drive is the only difference
A1 = Bluray
A2 = DVDRW

As for shipping dates, iirc, A2 comes in next week and A1 around 15-17 Feb according to justin@xoticpc

i understand that upgrading to wifi intel 5300 is only worth if a third antenna is installed is this true and do you know if the ressellers would do that?

I know NBR will do a review like they usually do, but will any of the resellers have reviews. or at least video tours. the only reason i ask is since im pretty sure NBR doesnt inspect the number of antenna wires possible since thats a little important for me.

by the way => would nbr get their laptop the same time the resellers do or the same time we do? so i can know approx when to expect their review

 

There will be video reviews and benchmarks done once it arrives into stock. NBR will get one of the first units once they are received.

It is presumed it will come with 3 Antenna's as the G51JX does and it has the same Chipset as the G73. If by chance it only comes with two, your options will be limited down to the Intel 5100. I am not aware of any resellers that will install a 3rd antenna.

That's been asked a few times.

Short answer: yes
Long answer: you really don't need it, but seeing as it's only ~$35 and the fact that it is quite a bit better than stock, why not? It does help keep it cool, especially if you OC it.

Not that I have any experience with this sort of thing, but my guess is no.
But apparently there will be a cheaper, less powerful version at Best Buy

 

I bought the first generation of Asus G1, the first Asus laptop specific for gaming I believe in 2006. Overall been happy with it, it still works, still plays DX9 games fine. But it's time to ditch Windows XP (never went for Vista) and time to get ready for DX11.

I pre-ordered this from XoticPC, as I had great experience with the G1 with them. I hope I'm on the February 10th order, cross fingers. March is really long wait isn't it when you want something now?

I went with the 8GB 1333 Ram upgrade, and the IC Diamond treatment. DL instead of BluRay as I don't need it. When BluRay becomes more standard then I can upgrade the DL to BluRay at a later time

Sorry if I'm asking a question that's already been answer but I've tried digging through this mountain of posts but couldn't find it.

If I order an A1 without a bluray drive does it switch itself to the A2 and I have to wait or does it ship with the rest of the A1s. lol You know what I'm trying to do. I WANT TO TRY THIS LAPTOP OUT ALREADY!

 

Yeah one of the vendor reps said they will call or notify you of changing to the order from A1 to A2.

 

Oh and Justin, do you know if you guys are getting some new Sagers anytime soon? Sorry for being off topic.

ASUS has said they will be received in Friday. Shipping could start tomorrow or next week.

That is good to hear. It's always nice when stuff is earlier than it's supposed to be. Here's hoping it lives up to all the hype. And that almost 3 hr battery life they posted...that'd be nice too!

I almost have enough money for either the G51JX-A1 or the G73JH-A2. I'll soon need to decide which one to buy.

For work: I kind of need eSATA and/or ExpressCard for USB3 like the G51JX-A1 has, but I could always stick an eSATA/USB3 card in a desktop at my office to transfer large files. Hmm...

I'll wait another week or so, but by then I'll have to buy something!

 

I might kill myself considering my only connection to the internet now is an ipod touch.

guess I don't have it that bad then. I sold my G1S X3, but am using the wife's Toshiba. However, I am really only responding because we don't have high speed internet available where I live, so I have to tether my iPhone for ALL my internet needs. And since I don't have AT&T 3G in my area, its EDGE all the way!

Still, I am looking forward to some tethered fun on my G73 whenever it arrives.

Looking at your sigi..... is 12gig RAM even supported (or offering a performance boost to ) by this machine? I asked Ken earlier and he said it wouldn't

 

I think 12G (up to 16) is supported, but it probably wouldn't offer a performance gain to most people. Probably certain memory-intensive tasks could benefit from it, though, so it depends on the user. 99.95% of people would be better off spending the money on the SSD, I'd think.

 

Yes through XoticPC you can order the 12 GB or 16 GB.

UPDATE "A2's" will start shipping tomorrow. Customized models will start shipping mid to later next week. Some of you who ordered early for the A1 will be contacted about switching to the A2.
