g00r00, Justin from Xotic says they have the A2 and will be shipping them today. I got confirmation from XCaliber that they will be shipping mine today also. I'd call Xotic and give them your order number and see if you are on the first shipment.
Personally screen size matters. Gaming experience is just greater on a larger screen, granted 17" is no where close to the 22-24" monitors desktop gamers use. But it's good enough for me.
14 depends. I thought a 14" with 3:4 ratio was fine, but a 16:9 it's not, too small on the height.
-
10-key on a laptop is pretty sweet. 1920x1080 is also really awesome for not just gaming but productivity.
I plan to replace my work computer with this as well. (I'll dual boot it so that I can get to a linux environment just work work.) -
I hear you, Ziddy. I used to love the 14" size when the aspect ratio was 4:3.
Now that everything is 16:9, I think the preferred screen sizes (either really small or really large) may just leave the 14-15" sizes in a tough spot. -
Take a look at Alienware putting out their M11x, they sold out and had to move the shipping dates back a month. And that's a 11" screen. There is a market for small gaming notebooks, that aren't graphics crippled.
-
An emphatic YES. If a reputable company was able to cram these exact specs into a 14" form factor, I would definitely by that over this today. Unfortunately that just doesn't exist. When you go smaller you sacrifice performance, primarily in video and central processing.
More important than just these specs, if a company was able consistently cram the cutting edge mobile hardware into a 14" form, that would be the deciding factor for me. I know that maybe in 6 months to a year, this performance may be available in a 14", but I want the highest performer now, not in 6 months. And in 6 months to a year, I'll want the highest performer then. -

I was going to post this in the Owner's thread, but since this one is getting all the attention, I'll post it here. If I helped you, say thanks
Head to excaliberpc.com and grab one of his A2's before they are all gone.....
Ok, now that I have your attention, let me tell you my story.
So, I saw that Steven at excaliber Tweeted last night that the A2 was in stock. I checked is site, and sure enough, the "in stock" light was green. I waited until they opened this morning to call and verify. Steven was kind enough to tell me that not ONE person had ordered the A2 yet. Further, he said that he had just received their "Will Call" confirmation from Asus, which is about 4 miles down the road. All he was waiting on was his contact at Asus to tell him his order was staged and ready for pick up.
I had the A2 in my cart as I was talking to him, and when he assured me there was a strong chance my lappy could make it out today, I paid the extra $158 to get it Saturday delivery.
So, if I helped you get your A2 early, give me some rep power or something!
John -
I just called excaliber and they are sold out on the first batch but he said they may be able to get more allocated to them later today. Their website still shows in-stock but it might not be quite "real-time" I guess?
I suggest you call them before you order if you are expecting immediate shipment from them. And make sure you call and order one AFTER I have successfully ordered my in-stock A2!
lol

Right. Steven said that once he received his "will call" from Asus, he know they were just donw the road, ready to be staged for him to send a body to pick up. That's why he showed the A2 in stock. If his first allocation is now gone (2 hours later) he may want to turn off the sign. I can see a lot of people canceling orders from other resellers, thinking they will get first allocation machines.
This could get messy -
I ordered from them today as well. I talked to someone on the phone and to confirm my order they needed me to respond via email (for some reason). Anyway, i asked in the email if it would ship today and this is what I got back:
Still hoping though. -
Nope... probably not go under 17", ever. I was going to get a Qosimo 18" from Costco until I found out about the G73. Since mine is only going to portable between work, home and a friends garage for LAN fun, I am not worried about size/weight. The size of the screen makes gaming that much more enjoyable, but not like the 32" 1080p screen I have on the desktop at home. Plus it'll probably never run on battery alone for long so I could care less about the battery life.
-
I just put in the RMA with PowerNotebooks.com. I am so worried about all of this. They are probably thinking I am crazy because I could not make up my mind.
When everything is completed I can't wait to give them a 10/10 on resellerratings.com.
For those that don't know I am switching out my Sager NP8760 for the ASUS G73JH. I can save a little bit of money and gain a little bit in performance.
So, hopefully all goes well with the swap. -
That's what I thought too. Went out and bought this thing:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...075&cm_re=asus_monitor-_-24-236-075-_-Product
The actual 23" monitor itself plus the ring weighed about 7 or 8lb. I figured that it isn't too much of an addition to a laptop if i wanted to go somewhere outside of my house to game that I could just bring it along if i absolutely must. This way I could just settle for some smaller laptop when portability is key. -

Really, unless you require the portability of a laptop with the power of a mid-end-ish desktop, there's no real point getting a gaming laptop. For the same price, you might as well build a much better performing desktop (laptop components tend to lag at least a generation behind the desktop ones IMO). Consider whether or not you will actually lug this thing around? And if so, how often will you? And when you do, would you actually need the power of a gaming laptop with you? Then compare it to a similarly priced desktop, which will probably last longer, and see if that added portability is really worth paying for.
Personally, I'm only getting a gaming laptop as I'll be studying abroad for about a year, and shipping a desktop to and from Japan isn't worth the trouble. Therefore, I need a suitable desktop replacement that I can easily take there and back.
I, personally, cannot comprehend how anyone can use a laptop with a screen size less than 15". It's way too small. Even 15" is way too small. Hell, having just one screen is not even enough!
I'll be using this laptop for both gaming and work/assignments. Larger screen size is better for both those uses. And as mentioned above, it's mainly a desktop replacement. So to answer your question, no I wouldn't

More and more are showing in stock now
http://www.powernotebooks.com/configure.php?special=694 -
powernotebooks.com shows A1 in stock.
I'm confused now.
-
Hmm PowerNotebook told me they had sold all their A1 well into March. This is weird.
Yeah checked again, the A1 is on PRE-ORDER. -
Oh, damm...
-
Justin@XoticPC Company Representative
There is no possibility any "A1's" came into stock. Only "A2's" started shipping today. The first "A1" shipment is still scheduled for 2/17.
-
Bet it's been a busy day over there, huh Justin? Just wondering, do you guys know yet if there's 3 antennas or 2? I understand if you guys haven't gotten to look into yet.
-
Justin@XoticPC Company Representative
Very busy, trying to get through all the units going out.
We will have some more information on the G73 shortly.
-
Alright, sounds good! I keep forgetting you guys are a few hours behind us.
-
Yeah, 5 hours beheind for me. I cant wait to see some jucy news on this baby.
-
Ive got mine coming tomorrow ... Didnt have the patience to wait till monday
....
-
Mine shipped today from excaliberpc with overnight shipping and delivery on Saturdays, however, we're expected to get 2 feet of snow between now and tomorrow so we'll see if it shows up.
Pics, Video and review once it's arrived. -
I had to wait...
It would have been 125 more to get it by tomorrow.
Looking for some unboxing videos, reviews and some benchmarks by tomorrow. -
Yeah, I work tomorrow 'til 4p.m. (EST) I'll be really anxious to get home and see everything about this!!
-
You guys seen the new MSI Xotic just put up? Just about same specs as the G73.
-
nah its way different..i5 processor, 4gb ddr3 and 5850 video card..but it looks hot, and ETA is also mid march
-
Thats the 15'' one I'm talking about the 17''
-
It's still not as good as G73. It has 4 gigs of RAM and only one HD. And if you upgrade it to G73 specs it will be around $1800 and that's still only with 1 HD.
-
Justin@XoticPC Company Representative
The 15" is different however the 17" is close
It has the 5870 and not missing any ports. Does not look as "stealthy" as the G73 though. (if that is a word, lol)
-
How's the cooling on the MSI system Justin?
-
Justin@XoticPC Company Representative
Traditionally it is good, however the last branded series never arrived into the states. (if any of you remember). At this time I do not know if it will be dual fan or not?
-
Not a bad looking pc that msi....would also solve some of the complaints about the missing ports on the g73
-
Thanks for the reply. The laptop doesn't look bad at all! Well. Gotta wait for my sexy G73JH
-
I like the looks of the G73 a lot more compared to either of those new MSI's. Plus, you get a better warranty with Asus ;-).
btw, I'm sitting here snowed in all weekend, so I'm expecting some awesome reviews of this thing soon....I'm basically going to refresh my forum page every 10 minutes...can't wait to hear some hopefully awesome news. -
The G73JH 720QM processor can be changed to the 620M?
-
no.
10char -
Why would you want to change it to the 620M?
-
Lower TDP, higher base frequency, higher turbo frequency, less wasted cores & threads.
Those are all reasons I can see.
Regardless, it's not available in the G73JH.
-
right there with you man. I'm hopefully delivery finds a way to make it through the snow.
-
Just got my Tracking number for tomorrow will be here by noon Thanks Ken@Gentech
....
-
Oh my god.... I found the perfect laptops... and they're the new MSIs. All those ports!
I need to read some reviews of their older laptops to get a sense of their quality, build, and reliability (unless someone can fill me in now).
-
Woah there. You are way too practical
-
Lol, you just gave me a reason to sleep in until noon. (Like I needed another one...
)
-
Does XoticPC or MSI know something I don't? Why is KillZone 2 used to market the MSI Notebook on Xotic's website? I thought KillZone was PS3 exclusive. Even on the monitor, that's KillZone 2, if not, mind telling what game it is?
Only asking cause if it is available to PC, I'll get off my butt now and run over to buy it! -
