Wow, those are really.....surprising results. For a notebook with these specs, I was expecting more around 60-90 minutes max across the board. Can anyone who has received this thing today speak for the validity of these battery times?

I'm asking this because many people here seem to assume that it is Intel 5100, but when I see some photos posted here, it seems like Intel 1000...
Any confirmation from new owners?

1000

Intel 1000 and Intel 5100 both have a maximum lab throughput of 300Mbps. Whether you'll see that in real world use or not is quite a different story.
Intel 1000 looks like a Centrino card. Which means the CPU, GPU, and wireless radio would all need to be Intel components.
Intel 5100 is also a two-antenna radio, but Intel mentions nothing of Centrino on their datasheets.
Edit: I was wrong. The 5100 datasheet shows a Centrino badge. -
Totally off-topic, but the only person we haven't heard from is theda3g0. He was supposed to be getting a Saturday delivery as well.

...and the stock wireless adapter is...???
-
if you dont wanna use alcohol, u can use a peice of tape to take off that sticky residue.
just keep on going at it until you get all that sticky residue stuck to the piece of tape. -
No clue... we'd have to hear from someone that owns the G73JH, and I'd say they're all gaming now.
Look at it this way: It's 802.11n regardless. If you wanna change it down the road, hop on eBay and buy a wireless card from a parts laptop for like $5 shipped and pluck it in the slot. -
Anyone with battery life numbers?
-
LOL dude i just posted Gentech's numbers!
There are no updated numbers yet. -
You know what I just realized? All of us (I think I'm in this group...) with one of these coming on the 17th will probably come with 1333mhz RAM too! I mean, we'd have the first shipment of A1's if they didn't get held up at customs. Dunno about the 2nd shipment though. Depends how quick they got restocked with 1066
-
5100 is a/b/g/n and 100 is b/g/n.
I looked up G73 spec and it said b/g/n.
So stock adapter seems to be Intel 1000.
But confirmations from owners needed... -
That would be a wonderful bonus making for some incredible value for money.

In case you guys want all of XoticPC's information in one easy-to-read thread:
http://www.xoticpcforums.com/showthread.php?p=22818
(Except it says 86GB of DDR3 in the second sentence. Just thought I'd poke atcha, Justin! We all know what it really means.
)
-
Did you see someplace that stated the stock adapter is specifically Intel? -
You know, all this arguing about the wireless card is kind of useless...I think...
From what I recall, way back, Justin from Xotic said that if it didn't have 3 antenna, everyone would just get the default card. Also, in their video review, they say something to the same effect. It's near the end of part 2.
But then again, that's just Xotic, not all the resellers. -

86GB of RAM?? Asus is gonna take a bath on this one!! -
Most likely an Atheros.
-
why are you talking about wireless card after the release?
Its a gaming laptop not a NETBOOK
btw. this laptop kicks
Will be buyin this thing in a month
-
Because there's nothing left to talk about.
-
I'm surprised none of the owners are anywhere to be found...
-
Someone who already has this baby in their hands must have a Battlefield Bad Company 2 demo key! I really want to see how it rips that game up. Its one of the main reasons im getting this. Pretty please!
-
I wouldn't trust these numbers though, as I'm pretty sure I remember seeing them somewhere BEFORE the G73JH was available, which would mean that those battery life numbers were from Asus itself... Waiting for an official battery benchmark test from xotic or notebookcheck
(or anyone else who can provide less biased scores)
-
So, what happened to posting screenshots on your GTX 260M? (eazy e crysis thingy)
I need to see it!
This was expected... They're probably playing games on max settings...
-
I was playing BF BC2 just now. GREAT game.... and it's still in beta!
-
The owners are prob tired of taking pics and running benchmarks. Give em a chance to enjoy their new toys....
-
I wonder if maxing out at 16 GB of RAM is overkill for this laptop.
-
I have feeling the G73 is going to eat that game for lunch! I have been playing the beta on my desktop. I have to say... It is going to be a great game, but I REALLY don't like that map they give you for the demo. I don't know why. Feels way too closed in and claustrophobic. One example: As soon as you take off in an apache, you get shot down by some d.ouche with a rocket launcher. Know what I mean?
-
I am still bummed we won't have this thing for a while kim...
-
That's why I like to snipe. They never see you coming (unlike flying in a gunship)....
-
8GB is more than enough, trust me
Yeah I know.. we still have a little more than a week. I don't know how I'm going to live through this. I have no special feeling being one of the first now..

Looking at the mobile mark battery tests is likely deceiving when compared to real life. These tests are run with the brightness of the screen at a low setting (~20-50%), the wifi turned off and the processor not operating under heavy load etc.
Think of it in terms of posting a car's fuel efficiency where the test was run with the car idling and rolling downhill the whole time of the test. In real life, most of the tests yield a battery life that is approximately 50% of the mobile mark battery test numbers.
I look forward to hearing real life numbers from some of the new owners when they are either gaming or running multiple applications with wifi.
If anyone is interested, here are a couple of links to articles that give information of the mobile mark battery tests:

It's not just the gunship part. The whole map in general feels too closed in. It drops you on either side of a single choke-point that is more akin to a Counter Strike map then Battlefield.
-
True but im more interested in seeing how long the system can run for, when just idling/word processing. That's when ill be needing the battery most. I wont be gaming without being plugged into the wall.

I'm considering getting the SSD here, but is it advisable to keep the 2x 500 hard drive first then switch one out for the SSD?
Also, I feel that 80gb may be too small for me, but I can't afford the 160g.
Are there other good SSDs out there that has like around 120gb at a good price?
Thx -
It's very easy to swap out one HDD and switch to SSD, I suggest you to wait and let the price drop.
-
Unfortunately no Evensen i dont know what you mean, as i dont have ANY kind of computing power to run BFBC2. But i will take your word for it.
-
I am in and I am totally psyched! I went with SSD 80 primary drive, spare battery and AC adaptor as only options. Just got my confirmation email from GenTech. Too hell with the Super Bowl, I am following this thread and the owner's lounge tomorrow all day (I need to catch up, just joined today). I never thought I could get this excited over a machine! Thanks to all who contribute to this thread; I learned and lot, but still have much to learn. God Bless you all!

SUPER BOWL!

Guys if I order the Asus G73JH-A2 tomorrow with Next day Air shipping ..what will be the approximate date that i will get the laptop ?:S..i tried talking to resellers but their not replying
-
Think Fu-She pass from battlefield 2, but with only the 2 closest middle checkpoints. Oh, and covered in snow.
Don't get me wrong, the pacing, graphics, sound, and promise is ALL there. It's just that the map is seriously lackluster.
My BC2 experience in a nutshell.
1. Get in tank. Drive towards enemy area for 10 seconds. Get obliterated by 10 rockets, 1 special forces remote bomb, and re-spawn.
2. Get in Mobile armored personnel carrier. See number 1 above.
3. Hop in apache or blackhawk. See number 1 above.
4. Run by foot towards enemy area for 10 seconds. Get sniped from a crow's nest that I can't see. Re-spawn.
I seriously hope this is the only map that is this small and limited in gameplay mechanics. -
I'm in the same boat as you. I msg'd the resellers but haven't received a response. They're obviously not as lifeless as I am, sitting here on the forums drooling over every bit of information. Even if we haven't heard a thing in hours.
-
I'm just waiting for Alien vs Predator. The game's going to look so good with DX11.
-
Probably sometime next year...
-
Lol. Have you guys ever heard of "business hours"?
-
LOL
10char -
Same problem here
-
Sorry if this has already been answered, but I went with Windows Millenium...Just kidding
Actually I ordered Window 7 Pro, did I make a bad move?
I have used Ultimate and was not overly impressed.
to He!!! with Dell -
HELLOOOO!! Heard of Bioshock?
-
Why did you order Pro? Do you need bitlocker? Otherwise, I would leave it at home premium.
