And when fermi is released in 2011 it will be time for a new laptop anyway... i for one haven't kept a laptop longer than about 7 months since my second laptop several years ago... i have had my trusty refurbed gateway and its been great... i had a G51V with the 9700m in it and this ole hateway works out better than that... this new G73 will be the new bully on the block when it comes to single gpu solutions for a while... not everyone is a benchmarker... some of us just like to play good looking games at good frame rates....

im an asus fan thru and thru and have been waiting on this release for quite some time... when asus releases something better i will sell this one for a good sized chink of change and buy the new bully on the block...lol

lol we haven't even seen any numbers from 5870 and you're already proclaiming it the fastest card? Vantage scores don't translate into real world gaming performance. You might end up eating your words if the 380M GTX soundly beats it and I'll be there laughing to remind you.

i'm running now but i'm thinking that wouldn't vantage not come up with an overall score if you change the res on it and it will be p0???

I expect you too; I wouldn't have it any other way. I have no problem eating humble pie when I am wrong, do you? Because based on Nvidia's past moves, I think you might be out on a ledge. Like I said, the 360m rebrand is at BEST only equal to the 260m. I'm basing my opinion on Nvidia's actual history and actions, but I will certainly stand here for a public flogging if I am wrong! :D

I'm not proclaiming any card the winner prematurely like you are. I think the GTX 380M/GTX 285M (whatever nvidia calls it) will have the performance to keep up and by performance I mean real world gaming tests, not this vantage bologna. If I'm wrong, I'll say, "guess I was wrong..no big deal". :D So far, I'm not overly impressed by this 5870 based on vantage results. I'm still waiting to see how it does in real world gaming, hopefully it's a monster.

Late to the party of course but holy crap.
This laptop has got to be the most powerful laptop I've seen in years!
Specs are totally off the chart and could make a desktop blush a bit, albeit the price will most likely be high[er]. I'm pretty happy with the performance of my current laptop right now, pretty much I can max out any game with no problems (give or take tweaking some settings or using some mods). I expect to keep my current laptop for a few years before upgrading again fully, for now I'll just upgrade my parts (CPU, etc.) and still be satisfied with my purchase of my current laptop...

Actually... This is a good point. I could be wrong too but as far as I know, unless you run on standard resolution, your vantage score is returned like P0 etc right?

And comparing it to the GTX280M stock, it does show a decent increase in performance.

I think I will still jump to the G73Jh. a decen 30% increase in performance is not bad at all :p plus hopefully no BSOD!

And more importantly, 256bits GDDR5 should be able to handle 1920x1080 res much better.

I am pretty sure that is just unconfirmed information. The stream processors with the radeons increase performance almost linearly from what we saw on the desktop department. A 1600sp 256bit GDDR5 unit would easily have over 80% increased performance on the current mobility radeon HD4850 (800sp 256bit GDDR3) which is not the case from the scores shown.

I am fairly sure it is just a higher clocked GDDR5 version of the mobility radeon HD4850. Unless I am wrong, the scores too and we magically get a stronger card.

Ha yeah I got to Vegas on Sunday but CES doesn't open to us regular non-press folk until Thursday morning. At that point I will be making a beeline for the Asus stand with my GF1 digi-c :D

Feeling pretty hung over today though, had an 18 hour drinking / partying / gambling session yesterday much like The Hangover movie lol (although I didn't find a tiger in my bathroom this morning!!!).

    It looks great.

Hope you guys get it faster than Q2 and will enjoy it w/o any problems :).

sadly the delayed release tipped the scale towards the M6500 (I know it’s not a gaming comp but the FX 3800 is an upgraded ver of the GTX 280M so how bad can it be, I get 35% discount on it from the company so the price is almost the same after discount and that the only heavy duty rig that is actually available here in Thailand) as I need a comp now.

why worry about waiting for a refresh of something that isn't even out yet? if you constantly waited on refreshes of technology you would never have anything, much less enjoy anything

i agree... i know opinions are like butt holes and everyone has one but I think this is the best looking(read coolest looking) laptop I have ever seen...

but yeah... there is no sense in waiting for a refresh... any refreshes in the near future from its release shouldn't be significant and any minor ones won't matter enough to warrant getting the refresh over this one.... barring any defects of course

Asus seems to refresh the 15" models fairly often but the 17" models have tended to hold course longer...

any one saying the cooling won't be good just needs to think

    the size of the vents

why would they redesign the whole chassis just to forget about the cooling?
it was a highlight for them which means they make it a HUGE priority

yup, and im interested in seeing the intake vent... in the front, that actually seems like a great design...

without the intakes on the bottom you might actually be able to use it on your lap without blocking the vent... if it still doesn't roast your legs that is

Can't say I'm surprised. Can you ask them if a 256 bit version exists? I'm still holding out hope that alienware will get it if it exists.

Somehow their customize page still shows 8GB memory as default option. But it does show 6GB memory on the front page for G73JH before going next page.

EDIT: I'll wait till AMD release their full spec on their mobility HD 5xxx series, in hope there's 256bit for mobility 5870. I want to teach zombies in L4D2 who is the boss with spanking power machine!!
