That's how the G73 owners roll.

Also I've just re-ordered from XOTIC with a DVD drive instead of Blu-ray for $1,509.32 - bargain! -

No we should totally start flooding the G51JX thread where we started all this G73JH talk
-
im really regretting getting my G51J-A1 now... I think if I have any issues with BSOD, im gonna ship it back to newegg and get a refund and get one of these beasts for 200 more!!
-
-
lol, well Hydeo, my wife already received it in hawaii and has shipped it to me here in Iraq, I should have it by the 5th or 6th probably. But yea, startin to have doubts on it though with all these BSOD issues.. so I may just say its a manufacture defective product and get my money back and buy one of these bad boys from Gentech or xoticpc, if they ship to Iraq
-
Talk go Ken from gentech (PM Gentech here on the forums) Pretty sure they'd ship to Iraq.
-
Yea, I think im going to ship it back as the G51J has a known manufacture defect. Thus I should be able to get an RMA for it and be able to get a refund from newegg.com
Oh yea, I think im done with Nvidia also on laptops, sense they like to just rebrand instead of creating new technologies... just wish I would have found NBR before I ordered my laptop -
How much of a difference do you think 1333MHz DDR3 will make versus 1066MHz with a Core i7 CPU.
There are a few threads discussing the question but none seems very conclusive. -
the difference is nil really, between 800mhz 1066mhz and 1333mhz. There are really no gains from DDR2 to DDR3 1066mhz, because of low latencies and the fact that we can't even fill the bandwidth of 800mhz ram (so it is never a bottleneck) at the current point in time.
-
so I have sent newegg a refund/return request for my un-opened G51J-A1 and give me a full refund as it has a known manufacture defect.
-
I have been reading here for a while now. Just created an account the other day because I've been reading so much and planning to purchase an Asus laptop.
I think this one is going to be it. The Spec's are strong, and the price is reasonable. High end video card, 8GB ram, 1TB, Bluray, 1920x1080, 1600dpi mouse, and a bag - what's not to like?
Seriously, any potential negatives? I'm thinking of purchasing through Gentech based on what I have read on this forum. -
only negative is your post on the Mouse
its 2000DPI not 1600 dpi
-
sweet jebus - it keeps getting better. I have not had a decent gaming laptop in a while.
Currently I have 2 desktops, 2 laptops and a netbook:
Toshiba P105-S9339 (used to be for gaming, now just for dialing into work VPN) C2D 2ghz - 2gb - ram 200gb - nVidia 7900GS 256mb - Vista Ultimate
Dell Mini 9 atom 1.6 - 2gb - gma450 - 32gb runcore - XP Pro
HP TX2510US (tablet, soon to be gifted to nephew) amd 2ghz - 3gb - 320gb - ati HD3200 - Vista Home
I also have two I7 920 desktops at home, both using Antec 900 cases and PC Power & Cooling 750W PSU's.
D0 Core - 6GB G.skill - Intel DX50SO - LG DVD - XFX GTX285 B.E. - Seagate 1TB - Vista Ultimate
C0 Core - 6GB G.skill - Asus P6T - LG DVD - LG BD-Burner - 2x XFX GTX 260 B.E. - Seagate 500GB - 2x OCZ Vertex 60GB - 7 Ultimate
Yeah, I know I should switch the CPU's between the two machines, but I'm not overclocking so I won't bother. While I typically prefer nVidia GPU's due to their driver stability, I don't like the idea of their mobile 2xx series being a re-badge of the previous gen gpu. Since the ATI 5870 has DX11 support and is supposed to be their next great mobile GPU.... I'm thinking I should take a chance. Am I missing anything?
I have an unused copy of 7 Ultimate that I was planning to install. Would either Gentech or Xotic be willing to sell me the machine without charging me for the OS license? -
well the recovery disks come with Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit bundled in it for no charge with the system. So I dont think its there call to knock off price for OS.
-
I already preordered this biatch. Anyone know or can confirm the actual RAM speed in this badboy? Reason being is one site posts it at 1333 while the other two post it at 1066. Just wondering...
-mackloon -
Usually resellers are extremely careful in what they put in there machines and on there order forms... so im sure Gentech is offereing the 1333 Ram as they are advertising.
-
-
That is the old G70/1 .. Thats a 16:10 screen and no chiclet keyboard...
Im sure alot of these sites/companys are just using placeholder stuff till they get it all sorted out.... -
Yea, to our knowledge, Asus has yet to release the actual design of it, but if its using the G73 chassis.... expect it to look extremely similiar.
-
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Windows_refund -
I have been informed by XOTIC that Asus have stated that they will be supplied with 1066MHz DDR3 memory not 1333MHz, and GenTech's listing is incorrect.
Small details such as this will be confirmed next week when Asus staff return from holiday. -
iirc 1066mhz and 1333mhz are interchangeable...if Gentech has 1333mhz memory it would work just fine.
-
Yes the memory controller integrated in Core i7 chips supports both 1066MHz and 1333MHz but it seems from XOTIC's email that the memory is supplied by Asus, not installed by a third party, so it will be one or t'other for all.
-
Only real question I have is do I get it with AS5 or the ICD24 Thermal Compound... which is better
-
Neither, do it yourself later!
-
if I do it myself, I would lose Warranty... no thanks... ill let them guys do it -
Of course you won't lose your warranty.
No one will know or be able to detect that you've done it.
A tube of AS5 is $5 at most and it's such an easy job - no brainer if you ask me. -
-
-
You don't have to remove any stickers to apply thermal paste, only if you are changing CPUs.
-
Yes, they do.
-
-
Oh my....I am glad I came across this before I jumped the gun and ordered a G51J. I will be pre-ordering this on Jan. 5th. 2010. Looking forward to joining the Owners Lounge.
-
The stickers are on the CPU, not the heatsink.
Even if you do need to temporarily remove a sticker just heat it up with a hair dryer, it's not hard. -
The only "warranty void if removed" sticker is covering one of the screws used to tension the processor heatsink, meaning that if you want to change out the processor or graphics card you will be forfeiting your 2-year warranty
http://www.notebookreview.com/default.asp?newsID=5315&review=asus+g51j
You'll have to remove the heatsink to apply the paste..
I think these guys(Gentech and Xotic) have additional stickers given to em by the company, which they use to replace the original sticker after applying the paste.. -
The sticker is also perforated so that if you try to tug on it it breaks apart.
-
-
Over the heatsink screw.
-
-
I hope the Thermal design of the laptop is better and more efficient than the G72, according to notebookcheck's review, the i7 heated upto 99 Celsius and the 260mgtx upto 102!!
if they've just stuffed in the same components into same chassis, it'll be a big problem, esp with GDDR5
Striker, know anything about the thermal design situation from ASUS? -
If you want to pay someone 43 bucks to remove a sticker and put it back, by all means
Oh and happy new year everyone! -
I'd rather do that than risk tossing 2 years of warranty down the drain for being cheap.
-

(i know i shouldn't mommy, but all the other kids are doing it!)
Anyway iaTa, please keep me posted if u manage to salvage the sticker while applying the paste yourself..
Although, i could probably bribe a Asus tech here to just give me an extra sticker -
Fair enough!
We're all different and I'd prefer to save the 43 bucks.
The likelyhood of it becoming a problem is just miniscule.
Oh and I am mailing a cheque / sending wire transfer -
I might pay the $43 out of not sure how it is, the G71 had the GPU flip side down, im not shure how you suppose to disasemble it (does the video card gets unscrewed??), the CPU seems easy though, but again in the G51 the pipes were different than on the G51j, with the extra pipe that went to the Chipset... So not knowing how this is gona be, ill probably pay.
This is a G71 naked pix, but with a new videocard and new cpu, not sure if its gona be the same.
-
oh man it's taking a huge amount of restraint from ordering this beast. it's probably wiser to see how the 5870 performs... but ahhhhhh!!
-
Do It!!!! Peer Pressure!!! Peer Pressure!!!! Hahahaha
