haha, im so close to doing it
for shipping to canada after taxes on paypal its around 1730 (93 canadian cents to US dollar) which is around $200 cheaper than gentech.
i really wish ati would just release the benchmarks since they obviously have a working driver and chip. I'm assuming it'll be similar to a GTX 260 216SP which is easily enough for 1080P.
ughh im not going to be able to sleep tonight![]()

Don't forget the import taxes as well.
You have plenty of time to think about it. It's not out yet. -
-
Now available with a downgraded Blu-ray to DVD drive on GenTech also.
-
Can Gentech confirm for us they will indeed be offereing DDR3 1333MHz ram over the standard DDR3 1066MHz ram that comes stock
-
Paypal on gentech now comes out to $1,743.58 CAD shipped -
-
Hmm, 1520 shipped for me without Blu-Ray.
This will require consideration.
Much consideration, indeed. lol -
Now the anticipation on actually receiving this thing is going to suck :/
-
I just need one bench score for that 5870. I am just curious if it will beat the xfire 3870 or not.
-
Edit: nvm, must be new years, totally forgot about currency conversion. -
my gtx 260m easily takes out my roomies xps 1730 which has the dual 8700m's. Dont know If im sounding stupid or if this is a comparable argument. -
-
the price i get before i click "pay now" on paypal is 17xx. I dont remember paying provincial tax on american items. i only remember paying duty.

anybody know someone wanting to buy a g51? =P I wanna hurry up and get my pre-order done
-
-
Ah, so I'm assuming that includes the duty fee
-
it can be a nasty surprise
...

I didn't use this calculator, but you can try the one here. As far as I can tell, I got different figures for both.
I got my figures off Ebay's page on shipping to Canada. http://pages.ebay.ca/help/sellerguide/shipping/importing.html -
btw, the design is BET is gonna be like the G72...not the G70/G71.
look at the specs...the dimensions/weight are the same for G73 and G72
G72/G73
16"x11.6"x1.8" (W x D x H)
8.5lbs with 8-cell battery
G71
Dimensions (mm) W x H x D 43.3 x 31.4 x 4.9 cm (W x D x H)
4.79 kg, (with 8 cell battery)
Conversion
17.05" W x 12.36" H x 1.93" D
10.56lb w/ 8-cell battery
and the fact that gentech/xoticpc is more reliable than that foreign website...i doubt the G73 would look like the original G70 -

SoundOf1HandClapping Was once a Forge
If a G5x comes out with comparable specs (i.e. the G51 had two RAM slots, the G72 had three, and so on), I'll be all over it.
That is one sexy machine, I must admit. The 5870 is going to wipe the floor with the jokes nVidia is coming out with. -
Will Asus refresh the W90 with HD5870X2?

Getting ready to pull the trigger..
So who to purchase this from? xotic pc or gentech? I think xotic pc offers 100% refund with no restocking fees as long as everthing is returned in mint condition. I did not see this with gentech, but i think gentech was free return shipping? So which is the better reseller? If i purchase one of these from the above suppliers with no additional pixel warranty or coverage checked off, will having one dead or lit pixel upon arrival be covered for an exchange or return? -
Buying pc without seeing even tests/photos from it or seeing/feeling it in person .. lol .. gl on it and that with untested new gpu ..
-
Gentech is in my opinion the better reseller. Very transparent, very helpful here on the forums. Check this thread for an example: http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=403860
went out of his way to help us test a product not even sold by gentech to see if it supports quadcore CPUs. Gentech has the best customer service I've found in any online retailer, and they will be getting all of my business, and that of my close friends =] -
-
But just hate it because too many ati cards went smoking on me b4 going fully with nvidia. -
And by the way you've never purchased a laptop without personally feeling it?
Yeah, right. -
It is an entirely new GPU, with no performance information publicly available thus far. It is fairly safe to assume it should outperform the 4870s/GTX 280M, but that's about as far as it goes.
As for the build, seeing/feeling it in person is less important, but reviews would certainly be useful.
He could have put it better, but he does have a valid point. No offense to Striker and other early adopters, but as I mentioned in the w90vp thread, I don't mind waiting to see how things turn out.
Nonetheless, I do think the G73jh promises to be an excellent deal, but like others in the thread, I would prefer a stripped down version, i.e. 4 GB RAM/ no Blu-Ray. Don't see a point in paying for something I won't use(Blu-ray)/need(>4GB RAM). It is of course possible to purchase a replacement optical drive and replace the Blu-Ray drive or sell off the RAM.
-
um dtwn- both resellers offer exchange of the blu-ray drive for DVD drive at a cost of 80$ less =P And I bet if you talk to Gentech they'd let you drop 4GB of that ram for a dip in price too. and no, he doesn't really have a point. if there were no early adopters like us, there would be no future for the system..zomg its new nobody touch it til we've seen benches...oh...everyone is too afraid to put up the $ so they can test it? riiight...
-
Same with my lg r700, and asus a2k b4 that, and with my msi wind too.
Was just a warning to ppl not to jump in to buying way too fast.
If ppl call me troll can act as a troll as you see from my prev post ^^
Resellers might be good but they made big mistakes even in their listing b4 too.
Screenshoot and ask them to ship it with 8Gb ddr3 1333 ^^ they would lose 600$ right there.
Even they have no clue yet what they sell.
Will check on the topic when there will be facts. -
how is that 600$? get a calculator out bro. its got 4x2gb sticks. thats 200$ max.
-
I'm thinking of ordering now because i'm not sure if the price will go up.. The only strange thing about the G73 is that the manufacturer (Asus) doesn't even have it up on there website? Amazon does not even have it! Could the G73 be limited? The G72GX-A1 is showing up for pre-order everywhere. -
Asus is renowned for their slowness at updating that site with product info, but they are very good about getting their drivers and whatnot up to snuff before release.
-
Don't be fervent about it. It's fine that you want to be an early adopter, but there's no reason to expect everyone else to.
-
Even easier than replacing infs! -
I'm not begrudging him- he's coming in here and talking down to us for it and he has no right to. Its simple for him to just not post, and by posting he made it an attack on us for our decision, and I won't stand for that.
-
1) He still has a valid point. The card is untested.
2) He could have put it better and less troll-like. In case you're wondering, I already reported the troll post earlier.
3) If you want to be an early adopter, I applaud you for it, but it's not everyone. Moreover, no need to drag others who choose not to be early adopters into the issue. I'm referencing this quote.

We've been down this road before, led by the same Pied Piper:
MAN did I want an ASUS W90Vt when they first came out...
Two months later MAN was I happy I waited and passed on it!
Some lemmings never learn.
Now I need to go collect mushrooms or whatever it is "trolls" do... -
To be fair, not everyone who waited for results said this bit.
But yea, that's what troll-like behavior would be.
