Well speak of the devil...
As long as it ships before March I'm happy - plus I'm already locked in for a pre-order from Gentech and was told I'd be on their first batch so I'm not too worried about it selling out soon![]()

I dont think that would be refering to a fiscal quarter, those are primirally for internal use, and then only useally for financials. I can almost gaurentee they mean Q2 calandar

Here's to a happy 21st WITH your G73. -downs a glass of milk-
Anybody know when nVidia is due in CES? -
My internet sucks to bad to play any video content out here in Iraq, anyone mind grabbing a screengrab of the bottom for us and posting it up please?
-
I used mine for my order at gentech bro, not a problem at all, i just transfered the 2200 in the account for it.
-
So common sense would dictate that there are 12 months in a year, divide by 4 etc. therefore Q2 would start in April? I guess I could wait until then - I'd just much, much rather not have to...
-
And thanks by the way - I'll hopefully spend the day celebrating it by finally playing Crysis for the first time
-
That would be correct, when we say we (the company I work for) says we are releasing something early Q2, generally that means April timeframe
-
Here you go- not the greatest shot but the only one I have seen of the bottom (red box) so far

Thank you for trying, that doesnt really give much view nor clear enough to decide if there is any kind of intake vents down there or not to push air through...
-
In the video the Asus guy mentions the intake vents are in the front of the laptop and how they keep that part where you rest your wrists cool. They don't specifically say none on the bottom but that was what I surmised from the video
-
mmmmm, makes me wonder a little on how the airflow will work for it... may need to look into a 2nd bottom panels for it if asus is going to offer it up so I can drill it up for increased cooling!!

Off topic but,
Nvidia intros 3dsurround = eyeinfinity+3d-vision with fermi
just watched the web stream, even though i hate NVidia, have to say was a little impressed -
MasqueradingTeabag Notebook Consultant
Yes, I know...That looks...wow....
I'm buying a laptop with an ATi card the one year nVidia is actually outshining them in recent memory....Okay, unfair comparison, just seems like that, somehow.
EDIT: Question though. The 5870 supports eyefinity and 3d? Is that only independently or does it manage it simultaneously like the nVidia counterpart....I'm being shamefully hopeful here....
Come to think of it though, I don't care about eyefinity or 3d vision much. -
The ATI HD 5800 series and up will support it;

So, is there anything out there or coming out in the price range of $1650 or less that is equal to or even close to this computer?
-
For this price range? None so far
-
Well dunno for sure, can't find details of Clevo and MSI's 3-d laptops
But if they are this price range, will be wayyy behind in performance -
That is what I was expecting to hear.
Where is the rebranded Nvidia GTS 360m supposed to fall in comparison to this card. I know that notebook check has it ranked in class 2.
Do you think that the 5870 is still placed at the top of the list, as they have it currently, based on the results and specs that have come to light?
-mack -
Not necessarily, MSI has demonstrated some very high performance/price ratios in the past. Just look at the GT725 line.
-
Yes, the 5870 should still be the top performer, closely fighting with the 285m. the GTS360m would be below a GTX260m, so I'm guessing 35-37% slower than the 5870
-
A barebones Sager-NP8690 is the closest I could see you getting - but getting the amount of Ram up to an acceptable level, a full 1080 screen and decent harddrive space would probably push it to about $150 dollars over the price of the G73JH-A1 and that's without a BluRay drive.
I've been doing a fair bit of research on laptops out right now in case I don't want to wait 4 months and that's the best I could come up with (out of the country for all of April if it does release then so would only be able to get it in May or after) -

msi isn't a bad name at all. they came out with very good notebook with the 4850 gpu.
-
Are there any specs yet regarding the LCD besides the resolution?
-
dondadah88 Notebook Nobel Laureate
i think it is led....
-
Another 60hz panel?
-
dondadah88 Notebook Nobel Laureate
what's wrong with that?
-
Their previous model (I think G51?) was 120hz.
-
isnt it a LED Backlit?? not personally sure what that means... but It sounds like LCD with LED lightning to give it the LED crispness or something like that.. I dont know what the hell im talkin about though
-
dondadah88 Notebook Nobel Laureate
oh oh. is there a difference in quality or something? -
Yeah, vsync won't be needed anymore.
-
Only 1 model of the G51j was, the G51J-3D. and it actually never hit market anywhere I could find. The G51J-A1 was a 60hz screen
-
the 120hz model was for the 3d version.. normal screens are 60hz
-
MasqueradingTeabag Notebook Consultant
Wow, you're just waiting to pounce on it aren't ye..... -
Yeah here's the engadget link.

None that I am aware of, and Asus has packaged TREMENDOUS bang for the buck here. Furthermore, like last year, it appears Asus has an exclusive 'first-dibs' on ATI's flagship mobility card. I think we will see similar from players like MSI, but with lower-end ATI cards.
I suspect the only thing we will soon see better (again, like last year), will be a Dell/AW M17x refresh with 5870's in X-Fire..... and this will undoubted be far more expensive. I wish Asus would continue with X-Fire models, but at last word, they are no longer a player in this market. If they were, we would again see great value here..... probably in the $2000 to $2200 price range, as with the W90.
I wish Clevo/Sager would make an appearance here, but they seem to focus primarily on the nVidia line. Hopefully we will see an X-Fire offering from them, but I remain doubtful.
-
As long as ASUS pulls their head from their posterior and doesnt pull aneother w90 fiasco with their Xfire.....
-
We get it. You hate your w90 and everything you went through with Asus. I would hate them too if I were you. But you've also posted this about 10 times in this thread.
-

Somehow I think they learned a HUGE lesson from that ordeal.... hence, they are not doing X-Fire now, but I do wish they would give it another go.
-
He's doing it for the benefit of all the new people who keep coming late into this thread and can't be bothered to read all (highly informative) 140 pages
-
isnt this the essence of business today? Put something cutting edge out there, it fails, you retract, learn from it, and repackage it and it works flawlessly.
I think ASUS will play around with Xfire again in the near future. -
MasqueradingTeabag Notebook Consultant
I would pounce on an ASUS X-Fire.....knowing I could sell my G73 in a heartbeat in aussie land.......Considering how affordable an X-Fire would be knowing, Asus......fingers crossed. -
That may be a bit of an overstatement. This laptop has way too many possibility's attached to it. If it ends up coming out Q2, you're looking at somewhere been April-June for a release. Surely other laptop manufacturers will have something new out and in 6 months, prices will fall a bit too, so this may be just an average deal by then. We don't know! We don't even know what real world benchmarks are and ATI/AMD of course mucked up their benchmarks (for marketing hype bs)!
-
-=$tR|k3r=- Notebook Virtuoso
OHhhh, I would LOVE to see Asus do X-Fire again, but again, last word I got on this, it's not projected in the near future.
BUT, I DO HOPE SO!
-
Yes woods, I think it's enough.. You've been talkin about how bad ur w90 is and we get it.
But I think it's time to let go of it now. -
Actually, I dont hate it at all now...ok, its a bit on the heavy side, but...thats not a huge issue, the experiance sucked, but you missed my point entirely......
My point was a 5870 Xfire would rock, I would be all over it...as long as they dont repeat their mistakes.
