Did they clock down an ATi desktop as well; because I don't even understand how they can hook up a Mobility Radeon with a desktop processor.

All this misleading information, that at first seem to do nothing but make the 5870 shine, are really starting to get to me.

Good grief. Everyone needs to chill the F out. Get the laptop. Or don't. It's not like you're deciding a career path or a life threatening surgery! Read the info that is available now, absorb the new info that comes out and then make your decision. There is so much whining going on in this thread it is just clogging it up with nonsense. No, we do not need the 50th post that says "man, I'm disappointed", or "I want the truth!".

Everyone take a pill and chill the F out!

They probably used the desktop version that this mobility chipset was made from, and downclocked it to the mobility spec's and ran the tests that way, should be similiar stats when we receive the system.

    I'll be honest it's a 4850 core with gddr3 .... I don't care what ati says because it's all marketing.

    It's the same with the m17 4850's

With desktop clocks it was equal. Simple as that and you can't argue with that.

So feel free to explain why it isn't special he scored the exact same as a desktop 4850

Hurrah!. I think Asus tried to pull that off with the G50v? Crysis destroyed it on high....I think they had that at some exhibition as well...Pretty pathetic site. Atleast this is a 'netbook'.

I don't think so, but any of the awesome resellers here in the states will ship to you (Gentech/Xotic/Powernotebooks etc..)

But you can try a number of the resellers in the Asus guide. Quite a few ship overseas.

For those with serious doubts why not wait until other people buy it and evaluate it before deciding? it is not like this is a limited laptop, you may just have to wait a couple extra weeks-month to get it if you don't get in the initial shipment order.

Always a price to pay to be an early adopter..

Currently no, but I have been contacting a few based around Toronto and they're aware of this model, just haven't listed up the pre-order (due to something about US getting these before Canada, I forgot...but a silly reason nonetheless)

Does anyone have an ETA? Every time I log in, this thread's grown another 5-10 pages but no news as of yet on a release date.

I really hope it sticks to the early February spot as currently listed (means I'd get it in time for my 21st birthday)

There was no ETA listed and the price was $1649. My friend was going to preorder it because has $500 in amazon gift cards but it looks like the link when you search for G73 goes to the G72 now.

I want it in February, before I leave for Australia. Duty isn't as bad here, as opposed to the 10% or so in Australia.

I really doubt it'd be February though. If the resellers are to get the laptop by that time and are to start delivery it should be listed as a February ETA atleast now, shouldn't it? After all, it's only a month away. Lol

    True.

I don't think GenTech has any eta listed and, I think Xotic pc is just guessing. And wwoods just pointed out there is that ominous article that said early Q2....

    EDIT:

Best news I've heard thus far with regard to trying to ascertain an eta. Asus generally does that a few months after the laptop is released =P. Pardon the hyperbole.

Well after my Studio 17 order has been delayed and with all the problems Dell are having, I may be a new convert. Not too familiar with Asus as I have had 3 Dells prior..but this model seems to be the one...and the price seems reasonable. Which would be best reseller to ship to Canada? Thanks guys in advance for any replies...cheers... NM did my reading...found the answer..looking forward to the reviews on this thing..... Does anyone know how this screen will compare to the Studio and XPS Dell lines???

Sadly, it is highly unlikely to ship before February, and it may well be that the first shipment is already sold out...or VERY close to it.

That Wired article is what's got me all paranoid about release dates - no-one's confirmed it and powernotebooks.com and xoticpc both listed late January (and the guy from powernotebooks posted on this thread saying that he hadn't heard anything about a release date change) but I'm still preparing myself for the worst. Then again, when Wired.com first put up the news story regarding the G73JH-A1, they did forget to put what graphics card was being used inside (a pretty big error when reporting on a gaming rig)... maybe they screwed up twice?

When would Q2 start for Asus? I know some companies second fiscal quarter starts as soon as April (i.e. Capcom) but don't know about Asus.

Don't lose your minds if the Wired article is correct. That is probably the most accurate.
