the 820 imo is overpriced, the 720 should be plenty for gaming (OC's to 2.4ghz I think on two cores, roughly equivalent in speed to a 2.8ghz C2D I believe)

This is all good for a general idea, but I would take care in drawing any final conclusions here. The G73JH displayed at CES may only be a pre-production model..... ???

No CES model is final and it runs really nice and cool.

Can't get any temps out of Furmark for some reason.

Vantage I can only run at 1024 x 768 unless someone can PM a reg code over to me.

Sure, but many times at these shows, they display pre-production models. Perhaps iaTa can narrow this down?

    :)

EDIT: Thanks iaTa! I just saw your post!

Why the np9280 and not the np8690? Judging by what I've seen, they're similar and you could get the latter similarly spec-ed out for around $400 less.

    ... Wait - the np9280 is 17" isn't it? I'm guessing that's it? Unless there's something else I'm missing?

Not sure yet. Currently running my m15x 8800gtx so I am OK still on the mobile front. Might just do a system overhaul on my desktop because I have a lot of usable parts and could do a mobo/cpu/ram/gpu upgrade.

edit: But i am a tech lover and sometimes just need to scratch the addictive itch. This may be what I need. Something is telling me to wait a bit and see what refresh will happen with the AW line....price and value propositions I typically ignore when it comes to my mobile devices and go price/performance ratio on my desktops. I guess I am a lappy snob :)

NP 9280 is the desktop i7 single GPU.

The one you're thinking about is NP8760.

Ah, mistakes on my end then, my bad!

The NP8690 was the one I was looking at as a possible G73JH-A1 replacement should the bad news for our beloved new laptop had kept coming in so assumed other people might be as well as it's almost the same price/specs

Hype can be fun. I'm not looking to get another laptop until the end of the year or later but am very exited for all those here who are considering this. If this were 4 months ago I'd most surely be in like flynn! Still ... 2 laptops are better than 1 ... hmmm! This has all the features and design appeal I've been looking for.

    Yea thanks iaTa!

From pic's it looks like 3 different coverings were used. Rubber for the hand rest, a matte black plastic for most of the unit and a textured gritty black plastic for the sides and underneath.

Wasn't working for me either until I disabled the HD option and now it's fine

Interesting video as well - well worth a look if you want to see how the laptop looks closed and just get a general feel for its appearance and to have an idea of what materials they used and the look they're going for

The video is working..... try again later. If it gets lost in the advancing post here, just go to the lead thread of the Owner's Lounge.

Also, even though we keep hearing Q2, I really believe it will actually be end-Jan to mid-Feb.

We only keep hearing Q2 from this forum and that's due to the wired.com article - if one of our users really heard end-Jan to mid-Feb from a senior asus rep at CES as posted previously, I think it wouldn't be too optimistic to go with that as the more likely option
