The G51J has Power 4 Gear overclocking, so I see no reason why the G73 wouldn't.

That is a very good point and one I have been alluding to. For owners of current tier 1 laptop GPU's, this is not a value proposition to upgrade. Current games can still be played for the most part with high settings. The one's that can't....really won't benefit from the new cards. Technology is at a "weird stage" right now. The most demanding games can really only be played "the way it's meant to be played (pun intended) on high end desktops. Games that should come out in the next year will most likely run on current systems due to the high probability that they were made with consoles in mind. The ones that push the envelope will mostly be tech showcases for the most elite desktops.

I MAY justify this laptop purchase because of the price point and give my wife the m15x as she is "mildly" entertaining the thought of learning CS:S and L4D because she knows it is a passion of mine. My 2 year old m15x with the "ancient" 8800MGTX will likely more than suffice for any of her gaming interests and I could take a step up with a bigger screen and slightly better gaming machine. It all depends on my tax returns and my impulsivity. I am just lucky that she let me buy a 2000 Viper GTS ACR so getting another gaming computer could be pushing it....."viper before diaper" can only last so long ;)

Lol I felt like a naughty schoolboy or somethin.

Was quite funny really. Plus I knew more about the laptop than most of the Asus reps. Some of the stuff coming out of their mouths was complete BS.

Yeah I got pics of bottom and a few videos. Gimme half an hour and I'll post em up. Need to chill for a bit.

Ok here we go. I'll leave these large so you can see more detail:

wow that's really sexy. First pic, the top vent there I'm assuming is where the air goes in?

Edit: also, where is the magical "subwoofer" placed :D

Exactly the question I asked multiple reps and they all kept saying the same thing that the air is sucked in from the front. I also kept pointing out that that couldn't be the case as there were no intakes at the front! That grill you can see is covering the sub. From what I could gather the intakes are those vents smack bang in the middle.

By the way guys shutter glass 3D absolutely rocks. The new 120Hz 1080p screens are stunning in 3D. Just got to wait for them to filter down into laptops (currently you can only get low res 1366 screens in laptops). 3D will be taking over gaming laptops soon, mark my words. I liked it so much I think I might have to postpone my next purchase for a 3D enabled laptop. It's THAT cool.

Not sure but the same one had come off each (there were two G73's on display). They are quite long and thin so probably easy to catch and pull off.

the one's in the center cant be em coz you can see copper heatpipes running under them, thats just meant for passive cooling..

actually that'd be PERFECT if its pulling that air in directly over the CPU/GPU in the dead center of the laptop. coming from the front the air would cool the mobo/other components near the front and be warm by the time it hit the GPU. this is the best way to keep the GPU cool (as is)

My bad, when i saw your video i though i saw a glint of copper, but when i saw the photo you took, i realized it was some paper or somethin white which i mistook for the copper

Yes, this would be very efficient cooling, but i just hope its easy to open and clean

Yeah I don't think YouTube have done their bit to it yet, give it a few mins - works now.

Hinge is solid as a rock thanks to that big arse.

What I don't understand is why didn't they put the air intakes at the front like all the slides and graphics. That way there would be no need to use a cooler. If they are the air intakes in the centre of the base it means I will have to use a cooler again. Shame.

you won't need to use a cooler. with a laptop this big those vents will be in the center of your legs if you sit with your legs apart a bit. pulling in cold air from directly below. if they were in the front they wouldn't cool the GPU as effectively, as I previously stated.

I use my laptop in all sorts of places though (like in bed!) and find it very easy to block air intakes.

I thought this laptop could completely solve that problem.

np here NeRo, must be your flash player/location/misc.

dam, this thread grows exponentially...srsly like 2 days or someth. and it doubles.

soo...im just waiting for Real-life perf. of 128bit 5870. the laptop is simply too large for me (i were to get a notebook as big as that, i'll love to get an m17x), but it looks really nice.

cant wait to see some user benchies, i dont trust those ATi slideshows for ****. 50% improvement over 280M (that wasnt evne the actual card)...bull! if it was 256-bit GDDR5, things would be different then...

Any keyboard flex/squeaking from palmrest or anything? Judging by the pictures and videos the build quality is superb. I've heard Asus is amazing with customer support as well but never dealt with an Asus hands on other than my 8 year old mobo in my desktop.

It's built like a brick house. Solid as a rock. Almost feels like they've gone overboard with the solidness with that huge bottom. It's pretty big.

Oh and check out the Intel video I took - that was so cool.
