But we shall see how true they actual are, these marketing graphs tend to be skewed -

lol ati
they starting the benchmark at the freaking 80% XD
-
As far as the machine is concerned. It's a sweet one. -

Started shopping for a new laptop (work/play) stumbled onto the G73 and put in a pre-order. Been following the drama ever since. Better than the novelas my wife watches! Great info here.

at the same clocks the 5870m will have lower bandwidth than the GTX 280m....maybe the same

5870 IS 20% FASTER than 4870 confirmed by ATI them self.

no i'm showing the bandwidth at different clocks. that's all not the bit or anything. i'm trying to look for a pic of 1080 on the memory.
and i'm trying to compare it to the 5870's gpu-z even though it isn't fulled out all the way. -
its their new GPU, of course they'll say its xx% faster. they want you to buy it lol.
-
i was hoping for something like 50-60% since these suppose to be the next gen cards or something
sick of rebrands

it is a fixed function of technology (GDDR3 or 5) bandwidth (bits) and frequency Don, it is easy enough to figure out the correlation (not sure of the exact equation) but I know that we have already established the relationship between everything
here is the equation:
Frequency (in Hz) x bus width (bits) x technology multiplier (2 for GDDR3 4 for GDDR5) / 8 (8 bits per byte) -
dondadah88 Notebook Nobel Laureate
mmm i see....
-
exactly, so clock for clock the memory will be exactly the same, the architecture and other differences are what will give the speed improvement (and neither should choke at high resolutions)
-
again, you are expecting wayyyy too much.
you said you're expecting nVidia nxt gen to be the "savior" this time right?
We'll see if that happens. -
Its clear that they can fit 5870 in a 15.6 laptop easily since it's 40nm 50Watt versus GTX260m 55nm 65Watt SPECIALLY with the new cooling design which keeps everything cool according to Asus
I'll wait for the 15.6 Version with USB3 (USB3 already introduced with HP/ASUS/DELL/etc this year with the 32nm Core i5)
17.3 with huge frame/back is as big as 18.4 laptops so later everyone lol was fun i guess see ya when they release next true 15.6 gaming laptop but for now I'm happy with my G51. -
sorry but 5870 is a joke for an "upgrade, new users might love it though.
Will wait for fermi which i believe will end up very good, and even if it sucked i'll have Nvidia Superior Drivers for notebooks (Ati doesn't support mobile drivers) with Phsyx/Cuda/3Dsurround/New HD Flash acceleration Standard/etc
From CES they are getting released late Q1 for Desktops so i expect mobile versions to be out before june. no Nvidia is not stupid to give ati more than a free year in the mobile market. -
Idk though if ati is really better at aa i would get an ati, but i read that their AA is lower quality. -
At 1080p, even if the 5870 is say 15-20% faster than 280M in the newest games, AA may not even be a feasible option. L4D 1/2 my 260M plows through at max settings and AA so that's largely irrelevant as is MW2. But then take games like Crysis Warhead or GTA4 and that 20% won't be nearly enough to turn on AA. The point is, in older games or less demanding ones, you can already run AA in generous quantities with super sampling and not take much of a hit. There needs to be a substantial boost to single GPU performance at 1080p to consider AA a factor in newer more demanding games.

HSN21- good for you, you have your opinion, you've stated it enough times already on this page alone. you can go ahead and leave the thread now, you're negativity is not needed here.

But not to troll or anything, but NVIDIA most likely will have something that would beat ati's card at that time.
Im not saying its def. but they always seem to perform better,
on a side note, im thinking of getting a super cheap laptop, since all i do is trade forex, i havent played games in a bit. i dont know if i want to spend $1500 on a laptop lol. At least for now, going to wait until ati releases another high end dx11 card, by then they should have made it better -

Sorry.... I lost control.....
-
even when nVidia does come out with a card to beat this one, its never gonna fit in $1600 with the same specs, so its just not an option for people like me
did iaTa say when he would be going back and run 3dMarok06 and did he manage to get any pics of the bottom?
he said in a post he'd upload pics later, but i didnt spot em.. -
-
I had to delete a couple of posts
Please try to stay on topic

yea thats what sucks about nvidia high priced, but i think ati might have finally beat them. If it keeps up at this rate, because when nvidia finally releases their lord of the rings whatever bull ferni its called lol.
Ati will have released something 20% better, i really hope thats the case because im tired of nvidias gpu costing double. -

Does anyone know where I can get evidence that the G73 has hardware RAID 0? (not trying to start the RAID vs SSD fire again, just want to know)
-
it states right there raid1/raid0 support

If you are sick of rebrands or 10-20% performance boost only each year Fermi suppose to be the new G8 Series with huge jump, when that happens Ati can basically release the 5870 again but with 256bit instead of 128bit to compete. -
Thanks EIement
Boy this laptop has everything -
Well Clevo has updated their machines with 285m, bit same config will be costing ATLEAST $500 more i think

the GTX285 is a cherry picked GTX280 with higher clocks and different board configuration iirc.
-
I am sure if we read over posts in this thread you will see comparisons already posted

on-the-fly overclocking they mean the power4gear utility right? -

yes you are right.

probably just means intel turbo boost stuff....

im noticing when people post their pre-order configs, not many are taking the dead pixel warranty ...
is this a bad investment?
