That's why you order from the US from someone like Gentech and pay half that as I'm doing - with a global warranty, there's very little risk involved ;)

    we're always the last... :(

    but, if i decide to buy this war-machine (i hope so...), i'll buy it from gentech, no dubt! 1645$ + 20% vat + 5% duty + 149$ shipment costs = 2.205,25$ = 1.540 €

and there's 2 years INTERNATIONAL warranty!

+1 rep for finding me that link. 1700 € is my max amount I wish to spend so i'm interested again.
Weird it costs more in holland, its probably not because of the tax (which is lower there) but because its just a ripp off store (although its the same company as the one in belgium Oo)
The people in the UK should be pretty upset that taxes rose from 15 to 17.5 percent this year there (according to kobalt seller there) :p O well, we got 21% here in Belgium so dw to much about it.

    I think i will order it from gentech too then. If its really 1650 +20% +5% + 149 = 2200 dollar = 1550 euro.

But still its almost 550 dollar more than you guys..

And i hope with the delivery i do not get some other duty or tax for whatever reason?

You will have to pay for the delivery, but I doubt you will have to pay aditional import tax like you need to do with cars...or am I mistaken here?

For Sweden, it's usually 25% for VAT plus another 5% for customs.

Here in belgium every device needs to have a standard 2 year warranty according to our law. I'm not sure if this consumer protecting law is the same in whole Europe but I doubt it.

You still get the 2 year international Asus warranty - just not the 1 year accidental damage. Accidental damage insurance is nearly always not included in normal warranties unless added as an extra so I think they'd be under no obligation to have that.

After all, it would be the user's fault and not the companies if the laptop broke due to an accident. Only the original parts are covered.

Accidental warranty sounds almost too good to be true. Just makes me wonder how much the fine print would limit you to certain certain scenarios under specific conditions and what not. Sheesh. Plus, there are many many ways to abuse that warranty. Hey, my laptop looks a bit old. Oooops. " I accidentally dropped it".

I guess no one in there right mind would abuse it since the hassle of sending the laptop over to ASUS and getting the terms and conditions straightened out would simply out way the benefit of getting the same laptop just more shinier.... Still, I wouldn't mind having it; I have too many intoxicated kids running around in my apartment at times.

So according to the advert that DT84 posted on pg 171, this should be available with options of i5 and also the i7 620m? Would the i7 620m be better for gaming if the choice is between the i7 720qm or the i7 620m? I preordered it with the i7 720qm but I mostly play MMOs and such.

Yes the 4870 is 256bit. Any of the processors would have no trouble with gaming and all can be OC'ed.

it's cames with Stealth Fighter? maybe Iata can ask them? :D

anyway good quality plastic! more or less 4,3kg is quite heavy but a great achievement for a desktop replacement.
Also the next Alienware m17x(5,3kg) decide to follow this strategy.

Just for italians: we can get the i7 + 5870 GDDR5 + a hell lot of cool stuff (blue ray writer - UMTS card - 3 years awesome warranty - etc) in the Santech N56 for like 1700€. Nice thing is... that's a 15.4" notebook. :D

    http://www.santech.it/shop/articoli.aspx?idArt=39

To see the real price, you must click on "Aggiungi al Carrello", the website sucks.

Now I'm really confused about what to buy. xD

Screen resolution doesn't go very high though from what I can see and it's still A LOT more expensive than if you were to buy it from a US reseller like Gentech, even with the shipping fees/import tax

Dunno why would anyone bother with the 620m if you can get 720 for about the same price.

the Core i7 720 already overclock via turbo boost to 2.400 which is equal to 2.800-2.900 Dual core 2 Duo and you wont need higher for gaming on a laptop the bottleneck will be your GPU not CPU Also performance will be much better for multitasking and video editing/encoding/decoding with better gaming if the game supported Quad cores

The whole Dual vs Quad thingy died when Intel introduced Turbo Boost technology for notebooks.

Anyway, I think I'm out. Considering that the Clevo here in Italy will have the same specs for less (without any problem due to shipping fees), I'll go with a Clevo. Possibly, once Guru Notebook (the cheapest one in EU) will add the 5870 to the Guru Fire i7.

Xotic Pc have also increased the base price form $1645 to $1675.

The best cooling solution is now an extra $45 instead of the original $15.

And removing the Bluray drive no longer saves you $99 but around $70.

I hope other retailers don't follow suit... Although they price match anyway so maybe they're just hoping to catch out the people who don't obsessively compare prices online?

Well, all we have so far are rumours and speculation but if a senior asus rep at CES really said end of January and all these European sellers which are being linked to are each putting that up as the date as well, I think we can feel pretty confident that wired.com's Q2 prediction was way off the mark.

Not long to wait now *crosses fingers*
