have you heard of driver optimizations, on the geforce fx5xxx era?
im done trying to convince you

Raclimja, we get it, nVidia are evil..haaaarr.

Can someone tell me what this guy is trying to get across? I think Rolly here needs to take a chill pill.
-
Im not quite sure. Something about companies cheating. No idea if he is trying to thread-jack or not.
-
also if you may remember on the geforce fx5xxx, nvidia has gone to extremes on using driver optimizations on games benchmark and it was proven nvidia has cheated -

I think it is made by Razor as well.
ASUS reports that their mouse on the ASUS G73JH-A1 and ASUS G51JX-A1 are made by Razor, so I think the HP is just a rebranded Razor. -
How come the laptop
Asus, G51JX-A1, Intel Quad Core i7-720QM (1.60GHz) , 6GB DDR3 4 SODIMM Sockets, up to 8GB , 500G 7200RPM, NV GTS 360M 1GB GDDR5 VRAM, 15.6" FHD (1920x1080) (G51JX-A1)
is already released in Canada for since last week.

ASUS certainly went overkill, effectively so, producing a model that'll flag. First with ATi's flagship graphics card that got us all in the bandwagon ( rightly so, might I add) and now all this stealth design charade. It'll certainly be a blockbuster....can't wait...can't wait....can't wait..... -
i like specs and and the add ons...with that being said. how do you all like the redesigns on the mouse and bag extras?
Would you like the old or the new versions better? -
OPEN YOUR EYES, i said
im just trying to say that 3dmark is unreliable source of benchmark
the other guys are arguing with the 3dmark score of a gtx 260m in alienware and asus, what i am trying to say is that 3dmark scores are garbage and unreliable to test/compare the performance of cards to each other,
heck a intel gma series 4 manages to make the same score as ati igp in 3dmark vantage even though the intel gma is a piece of garbage
i suggest you read first before you spam nonesense and without basis
peace -
Vantage P GPU scores..this is a ballpark estimate for comparison purposes.
260M=4500
280M/4850=5000
4870=6000
5870=7000
Assuming Asus marketing isn't fudging the truth (again) the 5870 is a significant improvement over the 280M. -
-
-
That's close, the 260M gets 4900 and the 280M gets 5200. BTW, the M17x-R2 manual is now online. It supports CPU overclocking and vcore adjustment according to the manual! I posted a link in the AW forum. -
CPU OC'ing and over-volting. I think the wind got knock out of me a little.

Vcore....Lol..... Cannot wait to get back to Alienware when a day comes I can afford it....
-
Yes, Just to make those options work it'll cost $3K.
-
Getting the 920xm would've put my system price >$3500Hopefully someone on eBay sells a cheap non-ES sample one of these days.

Is the Mobility 4870 20% better than the 4850? I thought it was like 10% or less...they are almost the same card surely.
-
Your point is spot on though. -

Hmmm, this thread got even more interesting after I read through the Flame Warrior roster.
Thanks to Soviet for pointing that link out. -

So the unit does have one blue light at the base of the monitor going by the pictures which is cool and I've read you can turn it off if you like.
If I didn't want a more portable 15nch format laptop, I'd sell my VX in a heartbeat and get the G73jh. -
And I will resist the urge to take your statement about buying your girlfriend a G73 as a jab at me. lol -

I agree hope they hold.
They said there is another shipment coming by sea with no confirmed ETA.

I'm seriously considering this model. Not only because of the hardware but also because of the subtle design (I'm currently in the ThinkPad crowd).
I have always been turned off by gaming laptops because of the flash. Do you think this new subtle design will become a trend in the mobile gaming world? -
Let's see what comes first, my M17x or G73.

Okay as some of you know I was the original poster of the M15x A03 Bios issue and obviously I wanted to part with the system as I did.
Like many of you I to am looking at this ASUS from XoticPC and I have a few questions for you guys.
Do you think it will live up to the hype/specs and not be underclocked and or have poor heating issues?
Also I was wondering if you guys think swaping the 500GB Sata II for (primary drive) for an 80GB Intel SSD would be wise while keeping a 500GB for the secondary.
Thank guys. -
Personally I would replace the drive myself, because then you have a 500gb notebook drive, just go out and buy a usb/esata enclosure and you have 'technically' a basically free 500gb external drive. But yes, I would replace it with at least an 80gb, pref a 160gb.
Living up to the specs... We all know asus's track record with heat issues, but nobody knows how this design will perform, Iata said it was running pretty cool at CES but who knows. -
-
-
I certainly hope this is a full-spec high-performance machine without the cutting of corners. In regards to cooling I have found some interesting and yet funny statements on how the general public distinguishes a cool running system.
Take this for example...
I know these form-factors are called Laptops but by no means should anyone use them on their lap and then go "it is hot and has heating issues". As I and anyone who is more experienced on here clearly knows we are all taking about the internal cooling mechanism of in-taking air and expelling it.
But yes I hope this unit is well made and has the performance on all areas stated, I am ready to pull the trigger on it but hesitate. -
Maddogg,
I think the G73 will be a solid system. It won't have the build quality of the M15x so just be aware of that ahead of time. The M17x-R2 is also available now in case you're interested. -
-
I have yet to replace my system and or get it returned. I called origonally after the post reached all those replies but they made me wait almost half an hour so that is why I decided to write to them instead.
I got told that I would get a call back from 24-48 hrs from the return department and that my concerns were forwarded to the proper people.
As we speak I never did get a call back so I rewrote to that manager again and told him about the references of my post making it to Engadget's site.
I will not stand down unless they really give me something more than just a simple sorry and refund.
Now as for the whole build quality of an Alienware vs the ASUS I didn't find the AW worthwhile in build. I did have keyboard flexing on the right-hand side where the arrow keys were and also felt as if the system was not that well put together hardware wise in terms of performance. I had some strange issues occur with it way before the bios issue ever came.
Anyways enough of me going bla-bla-bla... thanks for your assistance. -

Good luck! -
Fair enough, that bricking bios problem was definitely a major screw up. Good luck with whatever you get. Right now my 2nd choice after AW would be the G73 and then a Clevo.
