Yes. It will fit any of the larger notebook coolers on the market.

I plan on building a 1,000CFM cooler to levitate this beast.
-
No doubt ... I was just implying that it will find air ... My m17x did the fans were so big when I played on my bed it pulled air from the speaker grills ...
kept it under 75c
I am impressed and very happy indeed -
The 8GB specs is correct not a typo.

Gee Wiz Guy,
To answer your question, NO!
Please read a couple of my post, prior to the one you quote. It NEVER made sense to me either, but this is what I have been told on numerous occasions since 31 December, when G73 pre-orders began. I have repeatedly challenged this!
I brought this matter to Justin's attention, because I wanted his take on this!
Naw, it NEVER made sense to me, and I been feeling a big chain being jerked, ever since.
Anyhow, according to Asus's own timeline, The G71Gx & G72Gx are to end the 3rd week of January, and the G73 begins..... yet we hear of delay, and how many times has this changed? -

Thanks Justin! Yeah, I have heard the G72's are still selling..... and this I find amazing, especially at the same price of $1.645.00, LOL! -

Do people think paying to get better thermal paste put on will make that big of a difference?
Also, the only additional options I got are a 2nd power adaptor, and extending the warranty by 1yr. Do these seem like good options? -
Ken,
Any chance you can run some benchmarks on it for us? Or is there an NDA in place? -
Thermal paste definitely worth it!
and if u live in the US why do you need an extra adapter? if one konks off you can always order another one later
The 3 year warranty in my opinion if a good investment as failure rates are highest towards the 3rd year and it costs a LOT to repair otherwise plus if you decide to sell it off later and it has warranty left on it, it'll increase the resale value -
Will do benchmarks and games once the shipment arrives.

Now that's what I'm talking about. Two identical fans makes mix and matching a breeze. The CPU heatsink looks okay. -
what do you mean by "mix and matching"?
and they don't seem identical.. at least the casing isn't coz the screw holes are at different places and usually the fans are fused to casing aren't they?
Edit:
Oh, ok
silly me
-
One fan is turned over is all. Both are identical.
-
2 strong fans + small airholes = a whistling laptop.
-
so this means that G73 is much better in cooling and will not overheat?
-
Nothing is Real Notebook Evangelist
hahahahhahahahhahahah -
So, you did not get any units in...are these just provided images from ASUS?
-
as i expected some holes are for ram modules..
any info about power brick? how many watt it will be? -
Any additional pics of the 5870 without heatsink would be nice also.
-
was already confirmed by resellers i think.. 150watt
Edit: paladin44 said so here : http://forum.notebookreview.com/showpost.php?p=5726384&postcount=2264
reading that old post reminds me.. has final weight with both HDDs and weight of PSU been confirmed by ASUS?? -
150?....ugh
-
dondadah88 Notebook Nobel Laureate
you have lets say 55w for the cpu. then you have 50 for the gpu and all the other pasrts. i hope there is a change like the gateway fx. they came with 95w psu and aftermarket ones where 180w.....
here a 920m with turbo mode on. check out the watts. it's clocked at 3.4ghz
-
@GenTechPC you have one of these babies don't you! You have a big responsibility now! We need benchmarks, temp readings, pictures and video!
Please!!
-
No problem, it's just that that has been asked many times. You can find the answer in the G73 owner's lounge towards the end of the thread (last few pages).
-
Ken, do you have some actual dimensions on this baby...since the listed specs say it is less than in inch thick, and we all know that to be wrong. I am interested in the and width especiallyl
-
Does anyone know where to get this beauty in Japan? It's not listed even in Asus' own webpage (nor any of the G models.)
-
Would this laptop (with i7 720 and mob 5870) run Bad Company 2 on 1080p high settings smoothly or would it need two of these in crossX and faster processor? I know it would be just a guess but tell me what do you think as its the only game i care about
(Recommended requirements announced are quadcore CPU and GeForce GTX 260/ ATI Radeon 4870) -
dondadah88 Notebook Nobel Laureate
we dont know how it stands. it's alittle slower then the desktop 5750 so if it can run on that, then your fine.
-
since mobility 5870 performs like desktop 5770, I personally don't think it'll max out Bad Company 2.
if g73jh-a1's cooling system improved alot, then maybe you could overclock the gpu and be able to max it out.
Processor is good enough.
we can't really say for sure as of right now because mobility 5870's performance isn't definite and Bad Company 2 isn't even out yet.
-
Anyone know what the heck is going on with the G73? Every week or so the options on the laptop upgrades change. None for the better either. The CPU's are more expensive than what they were when they first started pre-order. No more option for 12GB memory. ((not that it was needed)) What's next?
-
I think its delayed because they can't fix that issue that happened on the CES presentation.
Besides, if this laptop turns out bad, you can always wait for the Asus G74 or whatever the next name will be, and hope Asus will finaly get things right. -
Required trade-in of your first born?
-
I just find it odd that so many changes are being made and it's not released yet. Before the CPU price increase I was more interested in the G73. But, now it's price is more than some high end laptops that have better overall configurations. Not a great selling point to make a budget gaming laptop rival laptops like Alienware in price.
Well, that's gonna be a problem...I don't have one.

Donald@Paladin44 Retired
Or the Sager NP8760, particularly with its brand new sale pricing
-
yea, i know that neither is out yet, thats why i asked you to guess
btw, where does 5770 stand against 4870?
and what does recommended settings usually mean? (medium settings at medium resolution, or high on HD?)
(and good to hear that i7 720 will not be bottleneck for BF:BC2 (thats for sure, right?
)
-
My point exactly. Anyone in the same boat as me waiting to see if it lives up to the hype will be more inclined to get a branded high end laptop. Maybe I'm just being too picky.
-
dondadah88 Notebook Nobel Laureate
it's like a 5750.
the 5770 is clocked at 850/1200 and has 800sp.
the 5750 is clocked at 700/1150 and has 720sp.
the 5870m is clocked at 700/1000 and has 800sp.
i'm sorry but i'm going with the 5750 and knock off some fps off benchmarks that i see from it. that extra 150/200 clocks are a big difference. -
yes, i7 720 will not be a bottleneck for BF:BC2.
and for 4870 and 5770, 5770 has lower power consumption, less heat, and DX11 support for next year's games. (4870 is better, though.)
basically short-term performance: 4870
Longevity: 5770.
Recommended settings usually mean you can play on high with decent resolutions. -
from what I've heard the mobility 5870 has a shader count of (desktop)5770, clock rate of 5750.
we can't "definitely" say how it's going to perform so let's wait. -
dondadah88 Notebook Nobel Laureate
i hope it supports ati overdrive.
-
pretty sure the 5870m will be higher than a 5750 in most games/benches
-
so then ill need to wait till BC2 beta starts (28th Jan), and look how it handles on 5750... (lets hope that ill be quite good
)
-
Did the price increase then? Last time I checked it would cost 1700-1900 in Europe which is still way better than the m17x for example which costs 2800 and only has the ati hd 4870 here in Belgium.
-
The base price is still the same. But, some configurations have increased. And I guess where you live it makes a difference. The ASUS G73 in the USA is roughly $1650 base price. The alienware is $1699 for older CPUs and $1799 for I7's.
The configurations for the G73 vs Alienware i7 is nearly the same in price for me. -
Considering what it comes with, I think its still a good price. I priced out
the M17X with the same i7, ram and hdd configuration and it was $2609 (us) and thats with no blueray and a single 4870. I just hope asus doesnt cheap out on the quality and the cooling is as good as they boast. Its missing a few ports that I'd like and the ram slots was kind of a bummer but 8gb should be plenty regardless. -
the alienware also comes stock with less ram, less HDD space, smaller res screen, no blu-ray and a weaker GPU.
-
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
but almost definitely better cooling and other stuff (like a RGB LED 16:10 screen)
as well as BIOS overclocking of the CPU and RAM including CPU core voltage
and the 5870m will only edge out the 4870m most likely
And the M17x WILL have upgradeable MXM as the slots there are standard, as well as the potential for 2 5870m's down the road -
I specced out an AW the same way as I'd spec the asus if I could, 1920x1200 RGBLED screen, 4gb ddr3 1066mhz ram, dvd burner, crossfire 4870's, two 500gb hdd's in raid 0, intel wifi 6300, i7 720qm. $2,709. So it definately is hard to justify, unless the Asus's cooling system just downright fails miserably. In which case I'd probably move to the Sager which just had a nice price cut, $2200 with an 820qm, two 500gb hdd's etc.
-
It all comes down to taste in the end. The included blueray player isn't much of a selling point for me. I use my PS3 instead. From what I can tell the G73 should have good cooling but, we'll have to wait for it to be released to confirm that. And 8gb is overkill. But, since it's included it's a nice bonus.
From that perspective then yes the ASUS is a better deal. What I was getting at is how the ASUS G73 keeps taking away upgrade options and increasing prices on others. It's marketed to be a budget gaming machine. If you configure it with a better cpu or what have you it gets very pricey that it no longer is a budget machine.
