Do you think better designed/built chasis, cooling design and higher quality TFT are trivial? I certainly do not.
HDD's and dvd drives can be bought aftermarket for a cheap price, they're really a non-factor in an overall system build. What matters is the aforementioned points that you casually dismissed. Also, why are you comparing Asus mail in depot warranty to Dell's NBD? They're not even in the same league.
Of course I'm an AW fan, can you not read?
NBD parts service + on site repair beats mail in warranty service any day. Arguing otherwise just makes you seem foolish.
People are fans of football teams, cars etc. so what's wrong with being a fan of a particular line of computers? I think the M15x/M17x are very well designed machines that are worth the premium. If you don't then that's your prerogative and nobody is forcing you to consider an AW. In fact, you got all bent out of shape and posted multiple replies because I said I'd pick an AW over the G73, so who's really the irrational one here? Seems you are quite defensive over a computer that you haven't even tested yet..or dare I say it, acting fanboyish.
-
This is based on the G72 panel though but from what i have been told it should be the same one in the G73 as well... -

You made me chuckle here...... just a wee bit, LOL! NICE!
-
-
The only reason I had multiple posts is because people responded to me which in turn required a response.
It looks like you are getting bent out of shape because I disagree with your analysis. I don't have a problem with you being a fanboi for AlienWare, but when you troll the forum of a machine you have no intention of purchasing (for yourself) to knock the quality (of this yet to be released machine) and remind everyone how great AlienWare is, it seems petty and immature. -
If we had the system that's what we would be posting. -
I am just as hardcore of a techie as the next guy, but apparently my value system measures differently. I don't have unlimited money to turn that 1699 AlienWare into a 2300 dollar machine when I just could have bought the G73 and tweaked it to my needs.
Maybe if I had unlimited money like you and Joker, I may be a brand snob too. Unfortunately I work for "the man" and draw a check just like the next schlub, so the G73 is the best value for the money.
Even if I did have unlimited money, I am still a contrarian and hate when people tell me x is better than y. Like I have said before, it's the same reason I would never buy Sony tv's, Bose home audio, and Lucky brand jeans. -
I'm sure this will spur 10 more comments about how I'm crazy for picking a proven line of computers over a product from a company famous for BSOD's and melting GPUs.
-
Sadly, Dell's NBD on-site warranty didn't help me too much... Bought a rather high-end notebook from them for my wife, and 4 days later, it completely died. 7beeps at bootup, so they decided to send us an entirely new system.
Shipped the old one back, and after about 3 weeks of waiting, they tell us the replacement order was cancelled due to an invalid configuration. I call and give them heck, but can't get them to expedite the replacement in any way, so it'll be at least 2 more weeks.
So, I cancelled it, bought my wife a Qosmio X505-850, I'm getting a G73, and I think I still have a little money left over from the Dell. At least Dell was quick in issuing a refund. -
You say you have used Dell's NBD service many times? Man, that speaks VOLUMES for the quality of the Dell's and Alienwares!
If you look at the latest reliability poling, Asus places nicely ahead of Dell in customer satisfaction. Who's Asus Gpu melted?
I didn't get angry over your initial comment. I called you crazy! -
and i didn't claim anything about asus quality! as a far former asus owner i can't say anything bad about it - but i don't compare the value of laptop before it become available with another!
so i haven't any sin about posting in another manufacturer thread because i can say what i think if it doesn't violate forum rules, isn't it? i'm not biassed and i don't say that g73 is crap. lol
and why i can't say something about competing machine if they are rather like? -
-
-
Many times over a 10 year span. For example, I had a dead pixel a couple times and Dell gladly sent me a LCD replacement the next day. There was never anything seriously wrong with the machines. Try getting that service with your mail in depotWho cares about those polls? They're not statistically valid and Dell as a whole sells far more computers than Asus. AW is also a subset of Dell which is what we're discussing here, not some cheap Inspiron--though I bet even those are built better than the G73!
-
In a little over a month we should know whether "working schlub" can have just as good of a machine as "money bags". -
Both of you shut up ... Jesus
It's a laptop... Shut up go back to each of your forums and leave it alone....
When they come out I'll test the. And see
Simple as that argueing now makes you both look retarded -
-
It's over there in the corner! -
unlimited money? I don't think so, I just keep recycling them. That's why I have a system in the NBR marketplace every month. Also why would you call me a "brand snob"? I have both systems on order. I also have a lenovo and Sony at home. -

Doctor Troll: "You are the patient, I AM the Doctor, and my arrogance prevails, so I REFUSE to consider anything you have to say!"

Has there been anymore info on when these will be shipped? Near the beginning someone mentioned end of Jan - beginning of Feb. As much as I love reading forums, 300+ pages of searching would be more than I could handle personally.
I'm interested in getting one of these but I am only in the US until Feb 14 and I wouldn't be able to get it shipped to Brazil for various reasons (going to school down there). -

Hey Soviet there's our hero! "5870? Bring it!" -
-
Nothing confirmed yet sad to say.... Hopefully mid to late February but thats about all we know right now.... -

The G7x's had ugly LG's and AUO's. Clevo resellers fit the W870CU with a newer unknown model AUO, which I have, or an HSD; both are incredibly stunning.
-
The G72 I saw at BB had a low end LG panel.
-
The G72 with the 1920x1080 screen is the same exact model used in the 8760 as confirmed for me by a reseller ... I am not talking about the Bestbuy model at all here...

What is the specific model number, Quadzilla?
-
LOL!! Nice MS paint skills. Looks like a vampire that had too much weed. -
-
So now it's not even end of Jan start of Feb but instead mid to end of Feb? That would suck, means this wouldn't even be an option for me.

[snicker, snicker] Geez!
-
I inquired about it this when they first announced the G73 and had asked at the time what panels the G72 was using so i was sent a screenshot and model number etc and then told that it was the same exact model as the 8760... -

That makes me sad.

Wow, I don't think I should have asked about the AW here. I Just had to catch up on 5 pages of hate-mail. Anywho...thanks for all the info. Now, how about some benchmarks.

w00t w00t.
Just found a Portuguese reseller for the g73jh, and unlike the other one who was selling the no Blu-Ray version for 1800€, this one is selling the Blu-Ray version for 1600€
It's already available on its website, and you can already buy it (although I'm having some troubles sending it to the cart with Firefox, tried with chrome and it allows me to checkout - doesn't state it's a pre order).
I'll give him a call tomorrow to see if he can upgrade to the 820qm, and if I can visit its wharehouse on thursday(maybe even to pick it up).

Damn you... -

Be glad Dell took over, I know I am.
That said, you're a fan, and you like Dell/AW, by all means go for it.
If you like AW and its Dell supported warranties, by all means, go with the M15X currently on offer, it's a decent deal on the M15X.
I wouldn't say Asus is famous for BSOD issues, I can think of one model off the top of my head for which that might be considered true, the G51J (still unknown cause, I imagine?), it is however, known for laptops that do run warmer than others, just look at the Asus G1 series from a year or two ago. That said, Asus also provided most users with either G50 or motherboard replacements, which not all companies would have done.
Edit: Apparently the w90vp suffered from WSODs.
Just to get this clear, I don't hate or particularly favor any company. I do, however, like Dell's warranty options, and Asus' default warranty. -
The w90 had wsod not blue
-
I'll make a note. lol -
-
Besides, I didnt't knew what NITS standed for, so I used the world favourite search engine to find out (see how I avoided saying "googled"?).
I was graced with several pics of "nits", wich in other words means "lice" (I had no clue). -
