Hey Justin, do companies ever give you guys an idea on how big of shipments you're going to receive? I presume for new models they most likely wont.

I am a little curious on how many preorders you have received so far, this baby seems like it's going to sell fast!

We have estimates on what we will received but unfortunately confirmed units we will not know until the last minute when they are shipped to us. As you can see by this thread I am sure all resellers see this as a popular model. :)

Yeah, I think it is interesting what PcCanada.com is doing. They are showing 100 units arriving at each of their stores on 02-09-2010, and the number of units "back-ordered" (pre-ordered). I could see where this could potentially back-fire, but at the same time, it says to the consumer; "ONLY 100 Units in the first shipment!.... XX are already sold!..... I BETTER ORDER FAST!!!".

The O'l 'Sense of Urgency' conditioning..... I can see where this could have it's advantages. Food for thought, Justin?

    LOL!

    :D

That's the only thing I am afraid of. I wont have the money until Feb 3rd, so I hope I can sneak in for the 1st shipment. Xotic PC got my vote, very user freindly site and good service. Great for a 1st time lappy buyer such as myself :)

Speculation is yes. It is the first DX11 mobile card out. We'll find out if it's the best performing once it's released.

Its weird, NCIX and PCCanada has the exact same stock sold. Its off by 1 now, but they're usually the same during the evening (Real Time Stock not so Real Time?)..which could mean that only 200 are shipping to Canada..and they're split between all resellers.

Let's hope at least one consumer has it in their hands before they need to update the bios. ;) Of course, after a recent Toshiba Qosmio bios update made it so my wife's computer won't wake up from sleep, I'm a little more hesitant to be an early adopter of any bios.

Eek, that's really scary! Although rolling back the Qosmio bios doesn't fix the wake from sleep issue either, so hopefully they can actually fix it with a future bios. In the meantime, I have it all configured to hibernate instead of sleep, which really hasn't been too bad, since it seems like the SSD makes that a reasonably fast procedure.

ya it bricked some systems. Motherboards need to be replaced. I haven't touched my bios in about a year but just update my display drivers and don't have any issues.

Getting ready to pre-order; sorry if these have been covered before but no time to read 404+ pages:

Possible upgrades: faster CPU and/or Intel wireless card, worth the cost???

Facts are fabulous but opinions welcome too. Thanx!

I will save you the search.
1st No. End of. Very minimal performance gain. VERY minimal.
2nd Possible. Remains to be seen if it supports three wire cards. Or something or rather... lol

it's not a very minimal performance gain for the CPU.
even though it's not worth it for the PRICE, there is a performance difference between for example, 720 and 820.
and for the wireless cards, if there are only 2 antennas in g73jh there's no performance gain, but if there are 3 antennas then there will be a performance gain.

    He's not talking about HDD.

I read somewhre that 720 to 820 has the most increase (3-6fps in games) while 820 to 920 has practically no gain. Thats if we are talking games of course. This is a gaming laptop after all.

Am I to understand that when the units ship in to the resellers on the 10th (ETA), there will be additional time added to make modifications to those who purchased upgrades? If so, does this mean the units that are base models ship out first regardless of when the resellers got the pre-orders?

I just heard from our bookstore manager (the guy ordering the G73 for me). He heard back from govconnection.com (the government reseller side of pcconnection.com) and they said that they don't have any in stock like they claimed they would today. He's calling back to see what the ETA is.

Sorry for the misinformation folks. If I hear anything else that suggests a pre-feb 10th release I'll let you guys know but like all of you....I'm skeptical. :-(

Apparently p4laptops in Aus is offering the 820 upgrade for only $375AUD ($340USD). Unfortunately, the store also lists e-sata, express-card, and 1920x1200 gfx, so I'm unsure how reliable it is...

EDIT: ...aaand now its gone. So there's something kinda weird about that support site. Maybe it doesn't like Firefox.

EDIT Again: So if anyone goes there and sees it, GRAB IT!!!! It seems to disappear
