I have read many of the threads, but that doesn't change the fact that you guys are always saying you get what you pay for, but you don't. you get a moderately less damageable aluminum frame for a few 100$ more, and have to deal with tech support that most of the time is just as crappy. and last I checked, they weren't working at all on the M15X throttling it was a "feature" of powermizer or so they say.

Good advice

Seriously quit feeding trolls ...
I am talking to you element
Each computer has issue and each company is shady. I can say just as many things about asus and your threads trying to fix the issues
it's what nbr is for, to fix the issues they don't -
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
I was trying to only speak to hardware related issues as I see software stuff (throttling, DPC) as being 100% fixable if the company so desires. And we have to wait and see if the G73 will even have these or other issues (I hope it does not, because it is a good looking laptop so far for the most part).
I have not made the "you get what you pay for" argument because I know better - as you have proved with your argument -
Hello
Hey guys I was wondering if you can tell me if theres any known problems with this laptop yet?I was looking at the Dell xps 16 but seems theres lots of problems with them.I looked into alien ware and sager but the prices were more then I wanted to pay. -
Its not out, so nobody knows if there are known problems
-
It hasn't been released yet how would we know
?
Com'mon common sense here people -
Hey, I'm sure this has been answered already but I don't feel like reading through 450+ pages.
Does G73 have 2 antennas or 3? Because last I heard it had 2 but it wasn't confirmed. Wondering if I should go with the 5300 wireless card or just keep the stock one.... -
I just don't feel like answering you because I don't feel like thinking about it
That's your logic -

I'm posting in this because I'd like to bridge this rift between us as we're both brothers of the Republic of All Powerful Laptops!!
My school/work laptop is an Asus ul30vt-x1 that I couldn't be more happy with. It looks great, runs even better, and plays Torchlight, WoW, and other "on the go" games that I enjoy firing up once in a while. Not to mention it lasts forever.
I just purchased myself an m17x because the machine is beastly. I can't wait to get it, YET, I've read through every page of this topic and can almost promise you all I'll be picking up a g73 as well.
What can I say, I'm as big of a computer/technology geek as you can get, and to me the money is justified in having some of the most powerful/awesome pieces of mobile gaming technology you can have.
I'll most likely use the AW as my desktop replacement, and the Asus as my bedside gamer/DX11 machine. To me, it's totally worth it, and they're both (m17/g73) two of the finest beasts of mobile technology on the planet.
All I can say is, less arguing more performance inspired O faces!!

To any future trollers, you must pay the troll toll to get in.
Just thought I'd lighten the mood. -

Even though, I'm fairly certain wading through your memory for the answer is no where nearly as cumbersome as wading through 450 pages of irrelevant information....wait, they have a search function for that... -
Since your logic is decent illl answer
there is only 2 antennas and that is confirmed -
I'm Sorry I just noticed that it wasn't out yet,How is Asus for a company I have heard of dell and Hp etc but never Asus
-
they're great.
-
I would like to preorder is there a place I can order with out paying tax? Also when is this scheduled to hit stores?
-
where do you live? I know gentechpc will not charge you tax unless you're living in California.
But if you do live in California other resellers like XoticPC or Powernotebooks will not charge you tax.
Even if you pre-order this right now you'll be lucky to get the 2nd shipping honestly, but you can always hope. -
MasqueradingTeabag Notebook Consultant
If your'e in the United States, by buying from any reseller than isn't based in your resident state will save you from the tax burden.
It is scheduled to be delivered to the resellers on or around the 10th of February, but unless you're insanely lucky you've already probably missed your lucky seat on the first batch. So February 18th, I think is the date that will concern your order. -
..........................
-
that is common for most people who don't really know about computers, actually.
-
Powernotebooks is in nevada and there's gentech and xoticpc
-
Thanks guys yea never heard of Asus it sucks I will have to wait untill the second shipment,I guess that gives me more time to make some money Hows their customer service and I just read they give you automatic 1 year accidental warranty thats cool
-
any new information? i see we had another alienware vs asus war. nice!
-
Soviet Sunrise Notebook Prophet
I voided my Asus warranty before I even turned it on for the first time.
I also would like this Asus/Alienware troll war to continue. I can't fall asleep now. -
MasqueradingTeabag Notebook Consultant
Well it's not too automatic. You have to register your warranty within 60 days of purchase to activate it.
P.S. Punctuation is awesome....or lack thereof. -
Is there a big difference between the two network adapters available?
Thanks. -
that question was asked so many times that even I'm not going to answer it.
-
lol I'm sorry my native language is spanish so I'm trying sorry. Also to the post above how did you void your warranty
-
Depends if your router is artheos or broadcomm based
-
I'm in ... pre-ordered!
Thanks all of you for days of "entertaining" posts to read!
I almost pulled the trigger on a Qosmio X505-Q880 after searching and not finding an ASUS I wanted. Luckily I clicked a link someone had posted in a Toshiba thread that led me to the G73. It's my first new computer in a long time...this machine will blow away the trusty old Dell 670 dual Xeon 3.2GHz workhorse I've been sitting in front of for years, and I'll actually be able to move around with it. I can't wait!
Cheers,
Mark -

I tore apart my 1201N to replace the memory, the hard drive, and the thermal paste on the CPU and GPU/chipset as well as lap the cold plates flat. I also removed all of the EMI shielding that was blocking some of the ventilation holes on the bottom of the notebook. There was a little yellow warranty sticker over one of the upper frame screws that I immediately ripped through to gain access to the screw. I'm not too sure if Asus will cover a "sticker-voided" 1201N as it involves removing the entire top half of the notebook. On the G51 I can understand as the warranty sticker is on one of the heatsink bolts, which is easily accessible by removing the backpanel. -
I also just preordered mine today and like you was about to get the Q880, but decided I could wait a few more weeks for something even better. Lets hope we are both happy with this purchase.
I have actually never owned a laptop before, but decided this machine was powerful enough for me to try my first one. -
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
The G73 should be a stronger machine in design and performance onve the Qosmio
-
My last laptop (it's around here somewhere) is a Pentium III Sony VAIO running at 10MHz I think. It's so painfully slow I stopped using it years ago! Certainly was never a gaming machine.
I'm more developer & less gamer, so I'm pretty sure I'll be real impressed with this new machine regardless. I've never even owned or used an SSD before - that alone is going to blow me away!
I sure like the looks better than the Qosmio, and I'm getting a lot more hardware for only $100 more. -
Right, this thread was showing signs of maybe getting back on track, and then a couple of posts came in and ruined it all again. I deleted them.
Keep it civilized and informative, people! -
Thank you
-
Also pre-ordered. :-D Added the 80GB SSD, ICD, and upgraded to 3 yr warranty! Can't wait!
-
Very good, informed choices!
-
Ugh... This crap again? I was so excited to see many pages of posts. Hoped some new ground breaking info has been released about G73, which this thread is all about, in case someone here has forgotten. Instead i had to plow through pages upon pages of utter ignorance. Thanks. I want 15minutes of my life back...

Morning evensen007,
Are you having your morning coffee with me this morning? I see there are now 67 G73JH downloads on the support site, and they now have the bios.bin file listed. You find anything new this morning? I keep getting a runtime error when I try to go to Asus U.S..... site must be down for some reason.
http://support.asus.com/download/download.aspx?model=G73JH&os=30&SLanguage=en-us
-
Your fault... I just scroll the useless pages as fast as I can.
-
Yep, just taking in the excitement from last night! I'm having the same error on Asus' site. To begin the speculation and rumor mill this morning, my hopeful guess is that the laptop will be officially launched by Asus tomorrow. Wishful thinking...
It's tough because there's been such a lull in information lately! I really just want to put this thing through the ringer and see what we can get out of it. Can't wait to see what over-clocking does to the thermal system Asus has designed for us! -
-=$tR|k3r=- Notebook Virtuoso
Yeah, it will be officially launched tomorrow..... that will get everyone in a frenzy, LOL!
I am confident the thermal properties will be fine, but yeah, OC'ing and testing will be fun, and judging from the preliminary findings of notebookcheck, it should be interesting. Even with admittedly premature drivers, it's not looking bad for the 5870 either..... it can only get better, the way I see it!
-
I surprised you're not more cautious in your statements with your Asus experience.
-
-=$tR|k3r=- Notebook Virtuoso
Sure, a rocky road for the W90, but I don't see this as a bad omen for the G73. Also, I don't think that was a pleasant experience for Asus either. It is hard to fathom we will see the same problems in the G73. I think they will get it mostly right this time around.
-
I remember mocking a certain flame debate and got the response "don't feed the trolls" by posters going off on it again! Seeing irony here.
Sort of a newb Q, but any thoughts on comparing what this can output vs. the best of consoles right now? I mean, just looking at gameplay on a well programmed (rather than poorly ported) game like Unchartered 2 on PS3, should this output significantly better looking games? I haven't seen Crysis in action to compare, but understand I shouldn't expect top settings with this. -
PC > Consoles
-
Sort of a learn from their past mistakes type of thing. One way they can achieve that is by stop manufacturing their own ATI cards. A good old fashion MXM 3.0 card would be nice.
-
-=$tR|k3r=- Notebook Virtuoso
For REAL! LOL! And no locked or lamed bios!
