Maybe late February, early March is a good estimate.

I would say early March is a safe guess.

Alright never have dealt with Asus so here I go throwing the Dice

Quagmire LXIX Have Laptop, Will Travel!
and I would have loved to be able to get around 30% or so off to be competitive, but like I said, I don't qualify for some (gvmnt, school, student). I don't see them on "sale" now (no interest 18 months was a plus though, but not needed) and I don't have the time or patience to wait until all the planets have aligned with the sun and cats eye nebula to get an Alienware to become a reasonable price. Maybe if they didn't pander to the students and the gvmnt so much, they could lower their base price and we could all buy one.
thank you for the rundown on discounts for them
-
I believe you just missed the cat's eye nebula a few days ago.....
-
I am neither a student or govt employee but I got a epp discount.........No need to be a student or govt employee.

Quagmire LXIX Have Laptop, Will Travel!
If so, it wasn't aligned with the planets and sun and that's why I still haven't seen a good price (I know we're just joking
). Just because I pre-ordered a G73 doesn't mean I've stopped looking at what's coming or what's out there.
For that discount (Employee Purchase Program), consider it filed under "don't qualify" and "planet alignment" for me, "10-30% on carefully selected enhanced hardware" which means imo, you're only going to get a shot at 30% if you select the crap that doesn't sell well (sure not going to get it for what's hot), and I would still have to jump through hoops to figure it out and get it, which brings me back to my marketing point:
If AW wouldn't offer all these discounts that one may or may not qualify for or have to jump through hoops to get, they could lower their base price and all people can shop and buy like normal.

Edit: Discounts should be something a prudent research shopper should be able to find and save a few bucks on for their effort, it shouldn't be something you have to spend your life on only to make the pricing competitive. -
I've been sitting here lurking the forum for about 2 weeks now....
...I've got my order in....
.....and all I want to do is just touch one....just so I know it's still real.
The wait is slowly killing me. -
After all of this, we will all be a bit greyer with a new wrinkle on our faces
However, be absolutely ecstatic with our machines!
-
wow...just wow. All I had to do was call them to order, tell them I was EPP, give them my epp code and that was that.......
-
This is what paladin44 from powernotebooks posted! the laptops might arrive earlier than we thought!
-
Canada's shipment just cleared customs... Asus rep claims they will be decided up in their Richmond BC warehouse, expected to be in Canadian stores feb 11 if not b4...

Quagmire LXIX Have Laptop, Will Travel!
wow...just wow huh,
how did you become epp? what discount did you get? what hardware did you get?
Please PM me with these details.
From what I see by the link I provided, I doubt it can be a "that was that" scenerio for me.
Edit: 2 days and no PM, so I'll just write you off as trolling -
Not getting my hopes up. I need to find something else to obsess about until I get mine. I'm going crazy over here.
-
I waited for a month, I know how you're feeling. I believe you ordered 2weeks ago?
-
so Canada will get this machine before USA does, from what I have read?
-
Should I go ahead and order this?
If I order right now, whats the realistic time frame before I get the laptop! It's the only laptop that offers a 5870, right?
Thank you -
Expect to get it on March, but it could be faster.
Yes, this is the only laptop that offers 5870 currently. In the future there probably will be 5870 crossfire enabled laptops but expect to pay $3000+.
If you need a desktop replacement and on a budget around $1700 then this is a best bang for a buck in the market right now. -
No, I don't think so. We should get it around same time.
If you didn't see what I posted before, paladin44 said 3 new models arrived early, so G73Jh might arrive early too. But just expect it on the ETA date. -
Oooooh. You bought from NCIX as well? My order actually just finished getting placed today, and I'm (almost 100% sure) in the first shipment. PM me if you get any more info, especially from Asus reps.
-
I'm reallly surprised that some that hung out so long have dropped out of the race. Only speaking for the US crowd, Asus might be dropping the ball here financially. As impatient as US folks are, all that tax money is burning a hole in most's pockets and will take their business elsewhere. They could of stood to make a nice chunk of cash if they got the lappy out by early Feb at latest to compete with sony and dell's new releases. We will all be broke by the time this thing hits the shelves, and only the most dedicated will have held out to reap the rewards, HAHA. I hope i'm one of the strong.
-
Lol, yeah I know what you mean, I spent most of my life in Anchorage. Now if the wait could be over, I'm not one of the "earliest" adopters but I've been waiting since Jan. 7th and it sucks... my best system right now is a pc I built 6-8 years ago with a GeForce 5200 Ultra so the G73 will be a slight upgrade...
-
I just read the ETA is FEB 17 th. I hope it's before. I pre-ordered after my Toshiba went down on Jan. 18th 2010 and they told me today parts won't be in until Feb. 26 th which is shameful and I would never buy another Toshiba product. I pre-order the new Asus G73JH-A1 eventhough I might get my Toshiba back before unless the ETA is correct. Nothing at all on their website and not many clues about. I recently saw another companies price at 1545. not sure if there's change or not. I pre-orderd at $1599.00. It really sounds too good to be true. I own a bunch of small businesses and I bought one of my partners who travels a lot another Asus which he'll get tomorrow that states 11 hours of battery time life. I think that's amazing at 4.2 pounds. Anyone out there that has the real ETA let us know asap. If the Asus turns out as good as we all hope between my group we could become a good client. Our churn rate is 3 years for about 15 notebooks/PC's. Toshiba had their chance and blew it on our first purchase. 15 NB's/PC's is still a spit in the ocean for any of these companies until you mulitply that by millions of small business owners!! We build OEM equipment all PLC controls so Toshiba lost that business too. That comes to over 100 systems a year or there about. They really pissed me off.
-
I think you will be satisfied with ASUS notebooks quality
-
Woot I ordered mine from NCIX last week so i should be in the first shipment too.
-
OK, I might be able to (pre)order the A1, based on tax return and other creative accounting moves.
It seems from the 500+ pages of posts I've read that the following basic config choices are pretty popular; please feel free to correct me:
IC Diamond thermal
stick w/ 8GB 1066 RAM, as upgrade to 1333 has a minimal performance/price improvement
stick w/ 500GB x2 and upgrade primary to an SSD in the near future and put the 500GB in an enclosure
Intel 5300 wireless
That puts me at $1712 at GenTech, XoticPC, and Power Notebook, and $1740 at BTOTech.
What about these Dead Pixel Warranties? I'm new to high-end laptops/PCs, so any advice would be appreciated.
Also, the 'cash' discount via PayPal eCheck option, does that mean the money comes out of my account right away?
Thanks!
Greg -
I would also advise upgrading the warranty, unless you don't live in the states. For only 100 dollars for an extra year, it seems like quite a bargain.
As for the reseller to buy from, I would just flip a coin between xoticpc, powernotebook and gentech. I ordered from one of those 3 and I am quite sure just about everybody else here too.
On the dead pixel warranty, it is not necessary since Asus comes with it's own 30 day dead pixel warranty and the resellers will test and power on the computer first before they ship out to you so they will catch it before it goes out. If all else fails Asus does have a 1 year accidental damage policy so maybe you accidentally stab the screen

Do you have the ICD on the CPU and GPU? I have the same setup as you and its 1723 for me lol -
Finally got mine ordered from Xotic. Can't wait.
And what happened to the owner's lounge thread? Am I the only one who can't find it anymore? -
-
Thanks. I feel a bit like an idiot now, but w/e!
-
Striker is no longer getting the system so he had the mods change the OP which ended up creating a "new" thread so the old link no longer works. I had the same issue last night.
-
Guys do i need the "IC Diamond Thermal Compound - CPU + GPU" for this laptop..coz i see some big vents on this thing. And also if i upgrade the wireless card to "Built-in Intel® PRO/Wireless 5300 802.11 a/g/n" is it gonna make a big difference?
Thx -
Does anybody know how to calculate the costs to ship it outside the US? (including stuff as import taxes etc..)
As I live in the Netherlands, Amsterdam, and I hear stories of the g73 being $1600 in the US, but when shipping it to another country it can get to $2500+ easily..
So I was wondering what it would cost me, if I were to buy the g73 and have it shipped to Amsterdam? -
Can't answer your questions, but I did the same order. I figured for a few bucks, the extra compound for cooling can't hurt. A few pages back there was discussion on it however. As far as the wireless, I went with the Intel as I have 3 friends with the Asus basic wireless and all three have had issues - one RMA'd hit laptop as he got so frustrated with it being an issue. So again, I figured it couldn't hurt...
-
Please search first before you ask.
And yes, it's definitely worth it to put any kind of thermal paste on CPU and gpu. (it means you can overclock it more since it's going to get cooler than the usual temp) the cooler the better.
And as for wireless cards, so many people asked that question and answered many times so I'm not going to bother answering it. -
if you have a friend just ask him to send it to you
-
$1645 Base A1
$35 IC Diamond 24 Carat Thermal Compound on both CPU/GPU
$32 Intel Pro/Wireless 5300 a/b/g/n
$1712 Total -

The only way to know for sure is to contact your governments customs office, or contact an import broker, and tell them what you want to do. Ask them what forms need to be filled out, and what it is going to cost to bring it in to your country.
The cost of shipping you can determine for yourself by contacting your favored vendor to get a quote, but they won't be able to help you determine the process or cost of importing to the Netherlands. -
These delays are getting ridiculous. I'm a professional fps player and I ordered this lappy to replace my dying macbook pro (which actually used to run 2007-08 games at 60+ w/ medium settings)...TWL and cevo are starting pretty soon and I'm not sure if I should ditch this computer or what
-
No offense, but a professional FPS player running on a MBP? Wouldn't there be more cost effective options?
-
Lol. I was going to say that.
Also expect to pay 2.5k+ for sager machines. -
The reseller I'm buying from in Australia isn't offering thermal paste or CPU upgrades as he has been told by ASUS that it would void the factory warranty. So for me it's not something I'm going to pursue, even though I would like better thermal paste.
I guess it's different in the US. You also get accidental damage. We don't
-
Thanks for that advice. I'm seeing three slightly different entries for upgrading for one extra year, and, again, I'm somewhat confused:
Asus 3 Year Limited North America Warranty : $89
US Three Year Warranty + 1 Year ADP + 24/7 ASUS Support $99.00
3 Year ASUS U.S. Warranty, 24/7 Support, 1 Year Accidental Coverage & 2-Way Pre-Paid Air Shipping for Repairs (N.A. Accidental Requires Registration w/ ASUS) ( + 99 )
Many thanks all for helping this newbie!

The warranties are all the same as provided by ASUS, although they may be worded a bit differently.
The warranty upgrade is for 3 years coverage for parts and labor, and gives the same 1st year protection against accidental damage (drops, spills etc), and ASUS 24/7 technical support.
You do have to register your warranty for the accidental damage protection to kick in.
The shipping is standard ground (not air...it used to be air but no more) paid both ways by ASUS. -
Not sure what to say. GenTech, XoticPC, and Power Notebook all show $35 and $32 for ICD on CPU/GPU and Intel 5300, respectively, for me...
-
Thanks, mate, that's a +1 in my mind...
Perhaps you could clarify the PayPal eCheck option for cash discount - does that money come out of my account now or when the unit ships? -
I've been reading this thread since page 75 or so, I guess it's time for me to register haha.
Anyways, I've seen you and other say that multiple times, however, all I saw was speculation as to whether it would support 2 or 3 wires, no definite answers. In all, yes it has been asked multiple times, but has never actually had a definite answer as to whether it's worth it or not.
Oh, I pre-ordered this through ken over at gentech, He was very friendly and helped me a ton. Unfortunately I didn't have as good of service with Justin W over at xoticpc
Anyone think that a lot of people will be switching over to the A2 with the announcement that the A1's are going to be delayed, opening up a lot of spots for people that pre-ordered later?
-
Well yeah but I got it as a gift a few years ago and I've been using it ever since. Like I said it used to do OK-especially w/ a max fps config.
TRUE but sagers have REALLY REALLY good quality from what I've heard.
