Unfortunately it would be nothing more then a guess determining what shipment you would be in. Any new orders would be at a minimum of the 2nd shipment.

+1. Thanks for that. Since I see your location is hungary, could you give us a basic rundown of what they said?

Also, did the fps drop down from 40 to 22 when they unplugged the ac adapter? I heard a click and the frames dropped, and then I saw him plug back in the power adapter in a shot a few seconds later. Towards the end of the video when they have Dirt2 running in a demo loop, it looks like it's running at 40+fps. It looks great!

    Thanks again!

I wonder how many people who put pre-orders in when this was announced have taken it back? Striker did you as well? I noticed your sig changed. I didn't read through all the posts to find out others reasoning but I wonder what is the deciding factor for instance the lack of e-SATA or PCI.

Yes, they unplugged the AC adapter for a few sec to show the difference in FPS :)

I try to sum up what they sad about the laptop.

Thank you! So Dirt 2 DX11 runs at 42fps at 1920x1080 at 4x AA. I am starting to forget all about this thing being delayed, and getting more excited actually testing it out!

So, I try to translate what they sad about this beast in the video:

"This laptop is ASUS's uber secret new machine, you can't read anywhere about it yet, not even on their official website" (hehe, they didn't hear about Notebookreview forum yet :D )

"The design is very solid, no useless stickers, buttons, gadgets, which is good. The matt surface around the keyboard is good to touch, so besides the illuminated keyboard there aren't any useless buttons and gadgets, it's like a business laptop" Both of them really liked this simple design.

"The notebook has Corei7 CPU, 8GB DDR3 RAM, ATi Moblity Radeon HD5870 1GB DDR5 (they were really impressed that it has 800 Stream processors), 2x320GB HDD, 9-Cell battery"

When the FPS droped from 44 to 22 it was because they unplugged the AC adapter.

They also liked that the vent holes are at the back and not left or right side.

Dirt 2 in 1920x1080 4x MSAA, DX11, everything on High settings runs fluently, but they sad that they think it would run great with Ultra settings too.

They couldn't tell the exact Hungarian price of the laptop, only a tip, that it will be > $2600 (and the bad thing is that I think it will be even higher)

Overall they really liked the laptop, it has really nice solid design in the outside and a powerfull beast in the inside.

Yes, striker and a few others have canceled their orders due to shipping delays. Original, unconfirmed dates were around end of Jan then were pushed back to 1st week of Feb and now being pushed back to 3rd week of feb. They got tired of the delays and push-backs and waiting for this machine and thus decided to take there money elsewhere to a different system of their choosing.

At least that sweet hungarian video that DR linked will tide us over. Right!?

In other news, we lost Striker, Hydeo, and a couple of others that didn't want to wait.

Did they all go over to the Alienware forum?

I have been around, but I got tired of checking in on the same old crap with no new information, and still no computer. It would be really nice to get a computer soon. On a side note, I bought a 64GB ipod touch to tide me over. It is sad, but that will be my primary computer until this one arrives. I would love to switch and get something now, but nothing compares to this at the spec to price ratio. it is like 2:1 against the alienwares.

Excellent post my new friend :) Much appreciation.

I was amazed at how much Hungarian I understood, I guess 'cool machine' has no language barrier. Very impressed with their benching results and it is great to actually see them on the screen itself and not just posted pics.

I'm psyched, I'm patient and I'm apt to be rewarded for it.

Certainly has been my shopping experience. People keep talking about discounts for them, but I either don't qualify or can't find what they speak of.

The Polish price includes the customs. As for the option to import from the US, yes we have to pay customs. 19% in Romania's case.

I just have to ask, how were they able to get their hands on a G73? Doesn't seem like Hungary is a bigger market for laptops than USA. Asus could easily send a few G73s into the US by plane to be reviewed.

In Poland we do not pay customs. Only tax from each product we buy/import which in most cases is 22%.

The AlienWare (Dell) discounts can be a slippery, stealthy beast. I work for a government IT entity, so I know a lot of the tricks to get a nice chunk o' discount.

Government Employee discount will net you 15% right off the bat from my work. I believe school system, college student etc. also nets you a nice Dell discount.

Bing offers cashback at irregular intervals.
Dell credit services offers you 10% at times ON TOP of the GVMNT discount you can get.

On top of all of this, if you grab a select Dell machine while it is on sale to begin with, you can see how the discounts start to cascade.

Anyhow, that's my story and I'm sticking to it!

well... I pre-ordered. Despite my post who knows how many pages ago about trying to be 'responsible'... my old Dell has other plans. Fired it up today and one of the two memory slots decided to die. (wonder how my awesome 3dmark score of 650 would be affected by just 1GB ram now! :D )

Just wish the 'free shipping' applied to Alaska but very few ever are 'free' (even tho we are in the US!)

Hopefully I get the G73 before Dell decides to die totally on me (and it is the wife that wants me to upgrade... I tried to say lets see how long it lives  but I lost )
