Yeah, do not miss read what I post, I do want all of the issues fixed.
The Keypad , the PCIE Buss , and a final set of bios for the computer and the Video card.
If they get this done then I will be just about fixed up or fixed up depending on how one looks at it.
This is the first computer that I have bought that I have had to wait for all the software firmware and the sort done, to get my brand new notebook running like it should have been right out of the factory!
I know there are some that have been waiting for a long time, I have been waiting sense August for this, and I had to wait 8 weeks to get my machine fixed after I just got it. They did get the computer running once ASUS got it in there repair shops though. Now we just need the rest so we can get on with gaming and not worrying about having to check to see if what we needed is out yet. -

This is getting off topic and I have already warned people about bickering. I'm locking this thread for a minute and moving all the PCIE 2.0 stuff to a new thread.
New thread for PCIE stuff: http://forum.notebookreview.com/asus-gaming-notebook-forum/533313-g73jh-pcie-speeds.html
Please stay on topic. Thanks! -
no updates from Gary yet? This thing about creative is the most irritating as i'm really suprised Asus is taking 2 months just to get some new software out.
Leopard 2 -
Another week has passed without any sign of progress...
-
-
Any news Gary?
-
no need to ask...we just have to wait it out. the minute some news pops up...he will let us know...im sure....(speculation of course)
-
eagerly, and patiently awaiting.
-
Bookmarked this thread. Hopefully, the update will come out before Thanksgiving (would be a nice Thanksgiving present, for those of us in the States/Canada)
-
And yet another week has gone by...
-
hope its worth the waiting...

All of these items sound like they're still going to take a while, I'd give it a few more weeks at least. It's better to know they're being actively worked on than being left in the dark.
-
Sure, but we haven't heard a word for about 2 weeks or so now...
-
-
it still is maddening.. it hasn't been 2 weeks but ages... gary too 2.5 months before he updated us from the last post.. how difficult can it be seriously? Especially for the creative software.. i can understand for the touchpad issue but for that piece of software? Its absurd.. Sorry not trying to insult his efforts but i really am frustrated.
Leopard 2 -
For touchpad issues, try the latest synaptic drivers. Its in my tutorial vid in my sig in the description (at the very bottom) on youtube. Its not a complete fix but its acting much better. Its version 15.1.16.2
-
can't find them ... no such link in your sig... still waiting for updates..
-
Enjoy!!!
Thank you very much Asus!!! -
-
What notebook do you have PhnX and is there a solution to the keyboard lag just for the time being??
-
thanks god i don't have those issues
for keyboard lag i am sure i don't have that
but for the touchpad ... hmm very rarelly gets crazy -
3 weeks and still nothing... I seriously doubt we will see a solution to the missing keystrokes anytime soon, if ever (considering its been plauging their laptops for years and they still havent got a solution).
-
And then few postes after there is a Fix but one more time note comming from Asus! -
Update -
1. We are replacing the trackpad in a few select user systems who have the missing keystroke problem to see if that affects any changes. So far it has not made a difference in other test units but we are expanding our replacement scope.
2. I expect a new trackpad driver suitable for beta release next week.
3. I have requested a meeting with Creative to discuss the MB2 audio package.
4. Still working on an updated VBios with lower clock speeds in idle mode. -
Thanks Gary for the update,
Could you consider also talking to Nvidia, so future driver releases have the id of the G73JW? they know it a problem with the current drivers, and according to this post, they are going to add it, but maybe with some persuading directly from Asus, we can have this included in the next releases, that way we can use drivers without having to hack them. -
I am very glad you have taken up the our cause on these items and are taking the time to help. Even though I am sure your day is full with trying to do the normal work at hand. Been there!
Also I do think Creative has taken advantage of all of us with what they have done with there product , and saying it works, Yeah just because it will boot does not mean it works like it should.
This audio issue and what Creative does will decide if I ever use another Creative product in any other system I buy or build. I have run into the problem to many times with Creative and there products just not working as stated and then never getting any help from there company, I have soundcards to Headphones laying around here that will not work but have printed on there box and in there manual that they will work with said Op system . And there forums full of users asking for help and not even a bleep from Creative to try to resolve the issues. Just other users just like here at Notebook review trying to help others to make it work.
That is just not acceptable . -
What about getting them to put a part number to the rubber feet and offering them to users that had thiers come off due to improper adhesives being used.
At this point it seems as if almost ALL G73s have the issue. Some within a day or two of them being purchased.
Or, is that too costly of a "fix", just like everything else on the list???
Sorry, we are getting quite bitter about the way Asus has dragged thier proverbial feet in regards to dealing with issues on a $1800+ laptop. It is obvious these issues are ALL widespread, so it is not just a small subset of users that have these problems. If users kept thier systems running all the time and didn't do constant shutdown/reboot processes you would find a lot more users with keyboard/touchpad issues. -
So far every G73 that I have worked on has the Touchpad/ Keyboard issue.
Most are so bad that you cannot type a message because of the missed keys and lag. I have had this issue come up in playing games, where the key would not respond and I would have to reboot the game to get it to come back.
I think it is a IRQ issue as this comes up with some software as I use it. Browsers , word processors and the like.
When this happens I just have to save and restart the program and the key will work. But there has been a few times I have had to reboot to get a key to came back. But the lag and missed keys still happen no matter what I do. And this is with just about everyone as I have read and seen in the post and there systems.
I had to turn off my touch pad to be able to type! And I do need my touch pad while out and about, but I am not able to do so as the issue will come back just as soon as I turn it back on. -
-
-
finally some update... however , this should be moving faster especially MB2... our patience is running thin..
-
1. From what i gathered here you started troubleshooting missing keystrokes by trying to come up with new drivers and you expect to have a beta driver next week, but you are now also fiddling with replacing hardware - trackpads... So do you know yet if this is a software or hardware fault and which it would take to solve this?
2. Is lowering powerplay idle clocks all you intend to do with the vBios?
Do you know all thats wrong with it?
Im getting the feeling you might have missed my previous posts about this, so im going to state these faults again in hope you might forward this to the appropriate department.
- Powerplay not only has too high clocks in idle, but is also lacking more profiles - there should be separate profiles for LOW, MEDIUM and HIGH load, so far we only have 2 profiles for this LOW/MEDIUM and HIGH.
Powerplay also has another fault in your vBios - it sometimes gets "stuck" on some clock profile and when it should clock up/down it doesnt. For instance when you run a game the GPU should clock up to 700/1000, but instead stays on its idle clocks (405/1000) turning a game into a slideshow. Most often it gets stuck in UVD profile (500/1000) even though theres no video running anywhere.
- The whole vBios is still NOT perfectly stable for all of us. A few users (including myself) cant use the Asus vBios without getting a GSOD here or there. And its NOT our hardware, since it works perfectly with the MSI vBios, which not only proves its not a hardware fault, but also that it CAN be done.
- Last, even though i know you havent enabled Overdrive by default (which would be a nice gesture) you might want to look into that, since thats also broken. If you enable it on your vBios, the memory clock doesnt downclock with powerplay anymore, but stays stuck at its overclocked state all the time. -
I just glad that they are working on this and they should come up with a fix for the problems if they keep looking.
I for one will run the Beta driver to see how it works, so I am looking and waiting for the release so I can give it a go. I have software that when I start it up I lose keys when I type so it will not take me long to see if it works. It sets up a set of conditions where I lose the S key almost every time. That is why I think it is a IRQ issue as it goes away when I restart the software. -
Update -
1. Missing Keystrokes - We will release a beta BIOS later this week that is intended to help solve this problem. -
Thanks for the heads up! I'll be watching for this to be posted. -
Is there any benifit to update from stock to new bios vbios? Mine works i just wonder if it will give me some like extra power or battery save or anything usefull really.
-
Cheers, -
that remains to be seen....
-
Good deal Gary!
-
and if I do, I'm never buying anything but ASUS again, including when it comes to desktop building time. -
and in an expanded tough...this update will bring light about the expanded across the almost-all-asus-notebook lineup whose suffer from touchpad issues? -
I think it's great we're getting solutions / fixes, but it would be nice to have them on the official page. I dread doing a bios update and having the RMA refused because it wasn't "official".
Still. I'll take an unofficial fix over no fix. -
-
When is later? I keep reading but so far all I see is 'later'.
I too have these issues, missing keystrokes, intermittent dead areas in touch pad, feet fell off first week, looked for BIOS controls not there. This system is fine at first boot--but then it warms up--just idleing! fans are working but it still gets hot.
I've waited almost a year for the fixes! If they do not happen soon, I'll be sending this very expensive so far nothing but a POS in for replacement right before the warranty runs out. Is that what Asus wants to deal with?? Really?? -
Update -
I will release the beta BIOS for the keyboard lag problem on Satruday. It is coming out of qualification testing tomorrow.
