is that the only thing getting fixed in the bios?
-
What else do you want fixed? We complained about keyboard lights, fixed. Complained about GSOD, fixed. The only other complaint that doesn't require RMA is touchpad/keystrokes, which has been pretty much tied together, and that looks like it'll be fixed in 2 days.
-
i want my extreme over clocking features to work from the bios and not some add on software. it's right there, but once you enable it..it locks the system down to some nonsense. i paid for that feature. that's what i want. -
Hey Gary, this BIOS will be fix the touchpad too??? -
-
The keyboard and touchpad for those who are affected. And a working PowerPlay vBios for everyone else. Those are the only 2 updates I'm looking for. Personally I have a feeling, Asus won't even consider his request. Once they resolve the keyboard and vBios and if whether Creative agrees or not, this will be it for G73jh as Asus moves on focuses on the replacements for the G73s. Unless there is some other major flaw. I do not believe Asus thinks, a laptop that doesn't benchmark as well as johnksss wants to be a flaw. So if there is any request that Asus won't fulfill, I hope it's his as the others are something everyone can benefit from. Putting an extreme i7 that costs nearly the same as the laptop itself is not something everyone can benefit from, probably not even 1% of G73 owners. -
And then I will have all day to try it out. It will be nice to be able to use the touch pad and not have to worry about the loss of key presses .
One way or another we will see if this update works.
I still love the G73 and it is great for gaming, Now all we need it the Audio fixed and we will be on track. -
ya audio needs to be fixed... sounds a little too bassy with my G73... Would love it if new software controlled the sound better
Panther214 -
DITTo.
I'll try the fix. But i have already lined up witg Asus to send this in. Hopefuly, I can address this in timely fashion with the fix, it will work and the send in will be unnecessary. Oh to dream. -
Not all G73JHs have GPUs that care about driver revision or source. Mine is on the stock video BIOS and I have run just about every official ATI driver version since March without any issue.
But I did originally have another G73 unit that was not at all happy unless I used the ASUS drivers. I have actually had 5 unique G73 machines and only one had a problematic GPU. Two others had other defects however. -
Just hope this Bios really does the trick for the missing keystrokes...
Then we just need a proper vBios... Im still stuck with the MSI vBios cause the Asus one is still unstable for me (not to mention how bad powerplay is).
The Creative software is really questionable, since Asus would have to pay for a whole new licence and i just dont see that happening... And lets be honest - the current one works just fine with new realtek drivers and it doesnt really do much in terms of sound quality. It distorts way more than it "helps".
And the extreme options in Bios almost certainly arent happening - the laptop is sold with i7-7x0 cpus, so why should it be included? Yes, you can buy an upgraded laptop from resellers or upgrade it yourself with an extreme cpu, but thats really not Asus' concern. They only support what they sell, not all the modifications resellers and end customers make. -
Anyone had any news on the Bios that are to be posted today?
I have been checking and so far I have not seen anything on this.
I want to see if this will fix the track pad issue so we can get this one out of the way and get on to the next. -
-
Patience is a virtue ? Well I must be a Saint then as I have had patience for many months!

Hello,
Sorry about the delay but spent all of today sitting in airports going basically nowhere. I will have the new BIOS and flash program posted up in the morning along with test/error reporting on the trackpad for feedback to us.
Sincerely,

-
and as for the rest.
you dont see me complaining about vbios this and track pad that and keyboard this and that. mine all work. what doesnt work is the feature that all extrem owners see but you dont.
and could care less what you want or dont want. -
In fact, we have the same one... Last I checked, the A1 came with a 720. That is what is supported.
-
Asus DOESNT make these laptops with extreme cpus, resellers upgrade them. ALL of these laptops come with i7-7x0 cpus from Asus, not just the best buy version, so thats whats OFFICIALLY supported by Asus. Get your info straight and stop expecting to get something that isnt even on the official support list. If your reseller told you youd get it then that was a nice lie - they cant make a bios and Asus sure wont give you what you want.
-
-
Lol, I wish mine looked like that too mate. But you can wait till you’re back at your weight at birth buddy. It wont happen I am afraid. Just use ThrottleStop. It does exactly the same thing.
-
i was just throwing that out there to gary to see if he had any feed back on it. -
Asus DID support TDP/TDC changes in the intial G73JH release, have things changed since then? I remember Mandrake was hitting 18k+ with a 920xm in 3dmark Vantage CPU tests and I was jealous at the time (this is pre-TS TDP/TDC release). If that feature is now locked down John, you should see if you can grab the older bios.
-
it's not so much that it's locked...it just doesnt work right...and i tried the older bios as well. the minute you turn it on..it locks the multipliers at 24/22/17/17, (under load the lock at 15 multi) but the minute you make a change with ts..they unlock. i tried all settings up to 30x multi..(big mistake - lol. once you do this..you have to remove the cpu and put it back for it to reset) i think i even tried the same bios drake had, but it did the same thing...looks good in the bios but once it hits windows...2.1 ghz lock...
-
Ok well that makes sense, there isn't any other manufacturer apart from Dell/Alienware that I'm aware of which go beyond the intended multiplier for the extreme CPU's. Remember all that ruckus we started in the Alienware forum when Dell released bios A08? It was because they reset the 920/940xm multipliers to default like Asus uses and then when we got on Brian's case, they pushed them back up to 24x/25x across all 4 cores. Still, even without 24x/25x on all 4 cores, the G73JH with the TDP/TDC unlock should be faster than most systems in CPU tests (provided others aren't using TS). -
Ok. 'Morning' was yesterday. Where is it? Why can't I find this posted anywhere? Will a link to this be posted here? Or will it just be posted on the Asus page? What gives? -
I think the natives are getting restless.

I'm just happy we have a guy like Gary running back and forth here and helping some of the updates along while providing us with feedback about them.
Instant gratification and having a fix and update to everything ever would be ideal in an electronic utopia, but in the meantime I'm content to be patient with the guy. -
it is definitely faster now than when mandrake started out. i think his best was 19k+ with a max over of 4 ghz (speculation)while mine is 22k+ using throttlestop and a max of 4.3 ghz. just under scook9's qx9300.
the g73jh can do all cores up to 26x to 27x depending on the cpu stress level and of course - how cool the laptop is. and with the 180 watt psu.. your looking at about 220 - 240 watts max output from the laptop now. not bad at all.
yeah joker..it was more of a "will it get an answer" sort of thing, you know. since asus advertises over clocking allot more now.
but as long as throttlestop & eleet work..it puts this laptop on par with desktop cpus. (literally. not like with the gpu comparisons) -
And the new bios is? Wait for it wait, in a sticky on top of page and not on the asus website.
-
So next is a new vBios that doesn't suck where memory clock changes doesn't cause flickering and with OverDrive working properly. And of course better tolerances for clocks changes for proper PowerPlay.
-
Ok.
Now my laptop is crashing in game. Nice.
COuld it be the graphics card drivers...what are the lastest verisons...must go to the sucky sucky Asus download page again.
Come on Gary--wher eis that update for the touchpad? Saturady came and went days ago. Where is the support? Trying to be patient but after waiting almost a year-it's getting very hard to do. -
All the drivers and bios that are being tested are in that Post. Gary was delayed by flights and they where posted when he got back. -
-
THANK YOU Battlenut. THAT is a helpful reply, not snarky.
I THINK I found another solution to it as well--still early so it is hard to say definitely.
I learned that my crashing (which started two days ago), which I at first thought was caused by the fans not 'kicking up' properly could be caused by DX11. DX 11 has a small update out (found on the MS site as a fix). I applied it last night and crashing has stopped. Pad and keyboard appear better as well (weirdness?), but it is too early in the day to tell yet for sure. -
-
The link given takes one to a DX 9. (Did not download it, but from what I read it was my understanding it was 9c.)
Win 7 64 comes with DX11 and from what I read ONLY DX 11 will work with it. The 'fix' is for dx11.
(Still having a few missing keystrokes)
-
-
Don't have a link but a search of the file name or the fix number (KB2028560) ought to bring it up fast enough: Windows6.1-KB2028560-v2-x64.msu.
Last night I also did an update of other fixes (I installed everything MS suggested.) But I keep mine fairly uptodate anyway so I don't think that had anything to do with it--mention it cuz one never knows for sure. -
-
This may be true, but having Direct X updated in any version will not hurt.
Also I am going to do some checking as over the years MS has changed how there look up and update works.
To think of this about DX 11 I think I have only had one download and I do not know if it was a full update.
We need to check into this to make sure we are getting the updates that we need.
Also we need to ask Gary to check in with the Engineers to find out some details on the Beta Bios so we can make sure we are doing the correct updates.
Also I am using Chasity's Vbios, and did they take this one into account also with the Beta Bios. Or if it makes any difference to the way they have this coded. We do not know how hardwired this Beta is , or how much they have changed that may affect how we do this and the updates.
As there should be more software hooks and IRQ's with this version of the Vbios. And at this point I do not want to leave out anything that could affect the outcome of getting this issue fixed.
I would love to have the code for the Beta bios and the Vbios so I could go through and see what is up. But I am sure that they are not going to give this out to me just because I want it .
I am still going to do a little research on this , and I am wondering how MS update handles the DX update. As many use this only for there updates . -
Games install the DirectX files they need. They also will likely not be affected by any DirectX updates because games use D3DX DLLs these days (since D3D 9). These DLLs don't change over time. MS releases new revisions regularly with incremented versions (ie D3DX9_42.dll).
Updating DirectX is really only needed if you have a game that won't run because you don't have the D3DX file that it needs.
AMD/ATI isn't going to be releasing the source code for their Atom BIOS anytime soon, btw.Not even the OEMs have access to that. The OEMs can't even make a genuine checksummed revision on their own AFAIK (like if they want to tweak clock speeds).
-
..being able to ajust the fan would be nice too.
-
The files updated are:
- D2d1.dll
- Fntcache.dll
- Dwrite.dll
- D3d10_1.dll
- D3d10_1core.dll
- D3d10warp.dll
And the link provided by Gary Key is the only link for DirectX updates so far and you could run the update even so it says 9c because games don't just use DirectX 10 or 11 libraries. However, as mentioned before by swaaye, you don't need to do this because games usually have the appropriate DirectX update/files included. -
Yawn!! No updates on creative still... This is one thing not making me happy with the G73.
Panther214 -
